ELCA12 ‐ Coromandel Adventures

Cost: $150 (Transportation, camping fees, hot showers ‐‐ note food is an extra but this is done in small
camping groups to minimise cost and double‐ups)
Departs: Sat 3rd Dec @ 10am BBC Carpark
Returns: Tuesday 6th December BBC Carpark, 6pm

3 nights camping at Papaaroha, 7kms North of Coromandel Township.
Highlights include; a major road trip via Auckland, Thames, Coromandel, Colville, Cathedral Cove,
Hotwater Beach, Castlerock and the Kaueranga and Tapu rivers. This trip is an adventurous excursion
that will stir your soul as we camp out at Papaaroha, the hidden gem of the Coromandel. You will feel
the old‐world gold mining history of Thames and Coromandel, and see and taste for yourself the
wonderful natural and culinary delights of these places. Climb Castle rock and see forever, dig a hole at
Hotwater beach to have a warm soak, catch a snapper at the Mussel Farm, wander through the marvel
of Cathedral Cove, swim with the seahorses at Waikawhau Beach. This trip is the essence of Coromandel
and led by local man, Mark Bayer; born in Thames. Other staff assisting will be Mrs Macgregor and Mrs
Carran, both keen campers.

ELSS1 ‐ SURF & SKATE ‐ Locally based Surf and Skate Missions
MONDAY DAY 1

Cost: $20 per day to cover Transport Costs
Time: Full Day Trips ‐ Monday / Tuesday
Maximum student numbers: 16 students
Mangawhai Skate Park (Lessons with Daniel Hawes ‐ Mangawhai Skate School) ‐ Half day
Day Trips ‐ to Hunt for waves and skating ‐ Te Arai / Sandy Bay / Baylys Beach / Ahipara
ELWHP1 ‐ WAIWERA HOT POOLS
MONDAY DAY 1

Time: 9AM – 4.30PM
Maximum student numbers: No maximum as trip can be tailored to number of students
The elective to Waiwera Infinity Thermal Spa Resort is an all‐day elective. The bus will be leaving school
at 9:00 a.m. and returning at approximately 4:30 p.m.
ELCF1 ‐ Charter Fishing
MONDAY DAY 1
Staff Members in Charge: S Brown, K McCully
Cost: $60 for students and family members! Bring your granddad or mum etc. ($60)
Departs: Boat will leave 8 am. Anglers need to be at the Marsden Cove Marina at 7.30am
Returns: Between 2pm and 4pm. If we are catching plenty we may return as late as 4pm, if not, we will
return to the Marina by 2pm. Students are to contact parents/caregivers when we are within reception
or arrange a staff member to do so.

Fishing Competition! Prizes and conditions to be confirmed!
We will head where the fish are biting and where the weather allows us to. This could be anywhere in
Bream Bay . The $60 covers the charter, rods, bait and tackle, water, some snacks as well as a barbeque
for lunch. Anglers need to bring chilli bins/bags or something suitable to bring their catch home in.
Suitable clothing, including a warm jacket or jumper, sun hat and appropriate footwear are required.
They may bring other food/drinks ‐ a water bottle is advised.
ELAF1 ‐ Adventure Forest Tree Climbing

Departs: 10AM
Returns: 4PM (Students to arrange own transport home from college)

Wear suitable clothing, including covered shoes (no sandals or jandals), and bring lunch, snacks, sunhat,
sunblock and a water bottle. There will be a meeting and an Adventure Forest permission slip before we
go.

There’s no place like this on earth: if you’ve ever fancied yourself as a flying trapeze artist, like Tarzan,
professional jouster or extreme slide enthusiast you need to come on this elective!!
Bring your own food/drink, togs, sunblock, sunhat and an enthusiastic attitude. You will need to
organise your way home as we will not be in time for the buses.

What to bring: Lunch or lunch money, proper togs, towel, gold coins for lockers
A fun day in town. Sign up if you know how to use your manners and follow instructions. We’ll catch a
movie in the morning then we’ll go to the aquatic centre for an afternoon of swimming and slides.

Make and decorate delicious cupcakes! All equipment provided, and you get to take home your
creations (the ones you haven’t eaten already). Bring your swimming gear, as there might be time for a
quick swim while waiting for the cupcakes to cool.
ELHR1 ‐ Horse riding

For non‐horsey people and horsey people open to different experiences.
In the heart of the Helmsdale Valley is the North River Horse and Humanship centre, surrounded by
native bush trails. For one day, you will be guided by horse experts Ian and Anka Benson, to find out
more about these gentle giants. You will spend the day in an arena, learning about caring for and
communicating with horses, and end the day with a trek through the rural country‐side. This course is
open to people with no experience with horses, as well as those who would like to learn about an
alternative way to communicate with horses. Bring sensible clothes and shoes, a hat, packed lunch and a
drink.

Three parts to the day: morning we will go down to the skatepark, after interval we will go down to the

Maximum student numbers: 16
Spend the morning making sweet treats from a range of options, then bake a bread base for your own
pizza for lunch (or turn it into scrolls, bread rolls or other deliciousness). We'll provide sauce and cheese,
but bring your own other toppings. In the afternoon, decorate your sweet baking or make a quick batch
of something else. A meeting will be held beforehand to decide on what you want to bake.
