2016 Official Rules Ladies & Kids Splash

This event is proud to be a member of the Lake Michigan Tournament Alliance and has adopted thefollowing eligibility clause: The Wellcraft Salmon Splash is open to any fishing team willing toparticipate and abide by official tournament rules and state specific DNR regulations. We reservethe right to decline entry or participation by any person, team or boat, as deemed necessary toensure such things as integrity, image, reputation, financial performance and communityrelationships with sponsors, participants and supporting groups.

Captain’s Meeting: Thursday, July 21, 7:00 PMLocation: Downtown Manistee (Across from City Marina)

RULESLMTA General Rules are enforced for this tournament when appropriate.

TOURNAMENT TIME - 6:00 AM-1:00 PM. No fishing before 6:00 AM. Must be back inside the pierheads by 1:00 PM. Any boat outside the pierheads at 1:01 PM will be disqualified. Cooler must be present at scales within 90 minutes of the end of the fishing period. Late coolers will not be allowed to weigh.

EVENT GEOGRAPHY: Eligible ports are Onekama and Manistee. Boats must leave from and return to the same harbor. NEW IN 2016: ALL FISHING MUST BE DONE IN MICHIGAN WATERS.

TEAM SIZE - Any number of crew members can be on a team. Must have a minimum of two females and/or kids (15 years & under). A maximum of 9 rods can be used if you have at least 3 licensed crew members. DNR rules apply.

WHO DOES WHAT - When the fish bites, the girls or kids must remove the rod from the holder, set the hooks and net the fish. The guys can help set the lines, drive, and, if necessary, release from riggers or boards.

BOAT REQUIREMENTS - All boats must be at least 18’ long and have a marine radio.

WEIGH-IN – Heaviest 5 fish. (5 fish maximum in your cooler at weigh-in). Final weigh-in procedures will be decided at Captains Meeting. Blocked or bagged ice only. No loose cubes or crushed ice, drain water from coolers before weigh-in. 5-LB deduction for loose ice or excess water. Extra fish or under legal sized limit will be disallowed plus 1 fish will be deducted for each extra or undersized fish you have. Maximum 5 fish in cooler at weigh in. Weigh slips must be signed before leaving scales. Check your weigh slip before you sign. After signing re-weighing is not allowed and no changes can be made.

SCORING – Total weight will determine the winners.

TIE BREAKERS – Big fish will be used if that weight is available for all boats involved. If not, prize will be split. Big Fish prizes will be split. Place prizes will be added together (ex 2nd & 3rd) and then split.

BAD WEATHER – If tournament can not begin by 11:00 AM, it will be cancelled. 3-hour minimum fishing time is required to complete this tournament. If tournament is cancelled due to bad weather, 90% of registration fee will be refunded to each team by mail within 7 days.

Main Event

See General Rules and/or 333 Rules for further Rules Clarification. Failure to be familiar with rules may result in disqualification. It isthe responsibility of each team and each individual participant to read and understand all rules pertaining to your specific event and the Tournament Trail General Rules. Ignorance is no excuse! TOURNAMENT TIME: 6:00am – 1:00pm each day. Fishing period will begin by “shotgun start” which will be announced on Channel 68. Boats must stage outside the harbor (1/2 mile max distance) while waiting for the starting announcement. No fishing or running is allowed prior to the official start. Boats must spread out and maintain a safe distance from other boats in the competition. Boats must be back inside a line between the pier heads no later than 1:00:59pm. Boats outside the harbor at 1:01pm will be disqualified for the day.

CAPTAINS MEETING – 7:00 PM on Friday, July 22, downtown in the vacant lot across from the Manistee Municipal Marina. On Site registration begins at 5:30 PM. Rule amendments or changes may be done at Captains Meeting prior to each tournament. We would suggest entire team attend. One person from each team is required to attend. Captains Meeting is held to ensure all participants are clear on rules and their interpretation.

BAD WEATHER - 3 hours of fishing is a completed day. If only 3 hours of a 2-day tournament can be fished it will be considered complete. The Tournament Committee is the final authority on weather decisions and may cancel or delay the event at their discretion.If Tournament is called early because of bad weather, you will have 1 hour to return to the Harbor. Boats who return more than 1 hour after tournament has been called off will not be allowed to weigh for that day. Monitor channel 9 for safety and emergency information. If tournament is called off before a minimum of 3 hours is fished, the whole day will be canceled. Min 3 hours fishing required to weigh-in. If due to unforeseen circumstance, this event is canceled in its entirety, a refund check for 90% of the tournament entry fee will be mailed within 14 days. 10% of the entry fee will be retained to cover Tournament expenses.

COMMUNICATION: Open communication. Shotgun Start, Fishing Period End and any other pertinent announcements will take place on Channel 68. Tournament Control can also be reached via cell phone at (231) 690-1102 (Scott) or (231) 645-8366 (Fred).

EVENT GEOGRAPHY: Boats may elect to fish out of Manistee or Onekama. Boats may NOT change their declared port once the tournament begins. Boats must leave from and return to their declared port on both days of this event. NEW IN 2016: ALL FISHING MUST BE DONE IN MICHIGAN WATERS.

TOURNAMENT LIMITS: DNR Limits. Weigh your best 3 fish in 2 days.

ROD LIMIT: 9 rods max. (3 licensed fishermen required to run 9 rods) 1 slider per rod not to exceed 72”.

WEIGH IN PROCEDURES: ***NOTE! 5 FISH MAX AT SCALES***

! Weigh In Times: Scales will open 2 hours prior to the end of the fishing period. ALL TEAMS MUST HAVE THEIR COOLERS AT THE WEIGH IN SITE WITHIN 90 MINUTES OF THE END OF THE FISHING PERIOD. LATE COOLERS WILL NOT BE WEIGHED.

! Day 1: Sequestered Weigh In. Teams will each weigh their day 1 catches in private. Each team may ask for official weights on up to 5 fish before deciding which, if any, they would like to count toward their 3-fish limit. NOTICE: Any fish counted on day 1 can NOT be exchanged for a bigger fish caught on day 2.

! Day 2: Open weigh in as each team will weigh however many fish they have left to complete their 3 fish limit.

! Scale Limit: Regardless of how many fish a team catches, they may only bring a maximum of 5 fish per day to the tournament scale. THERE IS NO SITUATION WHERE BRINGING MORE THAN 5 FISH TO THE SCALE IS ACCEPTABLE. A TEAM THAT BRINGS 6 OR MORE FISH TO THE TOURNAMENT SCALES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FOR THE DAY IN QUESTION AND THEREFORE UNABLE TO WEIGH.

! Cooler Restrictions: Coolers must be fully drained before weigh in. Block or Bagged Ice only. Excessive water or loose ice mayresult in penalties up to and including disqualification at the discretion of the weigh master. Stretching fish, squashing fish,

breaking their neck, or any manipulation to increase the length or weight of the fish will disqualify team. Extra fish or fish under legal DNR size limit will result in disqualification.

! Weight Slips: Weight slips MUST be signed before leaving the scales. It is YOUR responsibility to check and verify the information on your weight slip. Once the slip is signed, no re-weighing is allowed and no changes can be made. Prior to signing, teams may ask for a re-weigh. The 2nd weight will be the official weight regardless of whether it is higher or lower than the first.

TOURNAMENT SCORING: Straight Weight. Heaviest 3 fish will determine the winner. Salmon, Lake Trout, Steelhead, Brown Trout are the eligible species for this event.

PAYOUT/AWARDS: Winner will receive $10,000 guaranteed with 30 boat minimum registration. A full set of 333 Choice Prizes will also be awarded. Additional cash prizes may be awarded based on registration. Award Ceremony will be held downtown in the vacant lot across from the Manistee Municipal Marina.

BOAT REQUIREMENTS: Boats must be at least 18’ in length and must have a marine radio.

MICHIGAN DNR LAWS - All Michigan fishing laws and rules must be observed. DNR violations on tournament days disqualifies team with no refund.

GAFFING FISH – NO! Gaffing is not allowed under any circumstance.

OBSERVERS: No Observers Required. The tournament committee does reserve the right to inspect tournament coolers and vessels at any time.

BOUNDARIES: No fishing inside any harbor. All fishing must be done on Michigan Waters in Lake Michigan.

CAPTAIN & CREW - A Captain for each team must be designated and identified on registration form. The number of fishermen may vary. The same fishermen do not have to fish both days.

TOURNAMENT FLAGS – Tournament flags may be distributed at the Captain’s Meeting. Only 1 flag per tournament team. Securethem carefully. Failure to display your flag during any event you are registered in may result in DQ. Lost flags can be replaced (if available) for $10.00.

DISABLED BOATS - Boats must return under their own power. No boat may come in direct physical contact with another boat for any reason unless authorized by Tournament control. Physical contact will result in disqualification for both teams. Obviously boats indistress, dangerous or life threatening situations must be dealt with accordingly. Disabled boats that arrive late will not be able to weigh. Once tournament begins you cannot change boats for any reason.

TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE - A committee may be selected at each Captains Meeting from tournament participants. This committee will preside over the tournament and handle judgement on weather conditions, disputes, disagreements, or violation of rules. Your participation in this tournament indicates your acceptance of this procedure and your agreement that the decision of the tournament committee will be final. Immediate action for non-compliance of tournament rules will be the jurisdiction of the tournament committee regarding the event in question. When you elect to fish in this event you agree by your signature to abide by the policies, rules and decisions set forth by the Salmon Splash Tournament Coordinator and selected tournament committee.

POLYGRAPH EXAMINATIONS - All participants who weigh fish and are eligible for cash and prizes may be required to submit to a polygraph examination. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of any and all cash and prizes.

CHEATING - Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will be banned for life from all Tournament Trail 333 events and their names sent to all Great Lakes Tournament Officials. A reward of up to $1000.00 is offered for information that results in anyteam being disqualified for obvious cheating.

PROTESTS - All protests must be submitted within 1 hour after posted tournament fishing time ends each day.
