March
Important : Day of Mercy
Friday March 4, and Saturday March 5, 2016 in the context of the fourth Sunday of Lent: Lent in the Holy Year and the Sacrament of Reconciliation
“The season of Lent during this Jubilee Year should also be lived more intensely as a privileged
moment to celebrate and experience God’s mercy.” In the Bull Vultus Misericordiae (n. 17), our Holy Father Pope Francis expressed this hope for Lent that began February 10th. In this context, the Pope recalls the importance, the necessity, of celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He also requests “24 Hours for the Lord” (n. 17) on the Friday and Saturday preceding the 4th Sunday of Lent (March 4th and 5th): “So many people, including young
people, are returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through this experience they are
rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in
their lives. Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way
that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hands. For every
penitent, it will be a source of true interior peace” (ibid.).
