Welcome to Cycle North Carolina

We are glad you’re going to be joining us for another great year of Cycle North Carolina’s Coastal Ride. Our Participant Guide comes in electronic form and we’ll send it to you in two parts.

This is Part I: The Extended Session, which covers information you might want to know as you do your long-term planning for the event. This is the bulk of the information that you need to know before coming on the Coastal Ride.

Part II: Final Details – Late March: Part II will include last minute details such as the schedule of events with activities, entertainment, check-in times and locations, camping/parking instructions, route details, and much more.

Participant Check-in Information

RIDER SERVICES CHECK-IN DATES &TIMES Participant check-in for the 2016 Coastal Ride will be available at the Rider Services Tent beginning the morning of Friday, April 22. See the schedule below for check-in times: Address: 106 West Water Street, Edenton, NC

Friday, April 22 – 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Saturday, April 23 – 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Sunday, April 24 – 8:00 am to 10:00 am

At check-in you will receive your rider packet, which includes: a Cycle NC Coastal Ride participant shirt, a wristband, a bicycle band and additional ride information. If you pre-ordered a Cycle NC Coastal Ride jersey, you will receive it when you check in. The turn-by-turn cue sheets and maps will be emailed to you electronically one week before the ride. Enlarged route maps will be available to view at the CNC Rider Services Tent. A limited number of each day’s route sheets will be available at Rider Services should you need a copy.

CNC ID Bracelets and Bike Tag Your participant wristband must be securely fastened by a CNC staff member to your wrist (left or right…doesn’t matter) at the time of check-in. Once your wristband is on, it should not be removed unless you choose to leave the ride. The wristband identifies you as a participant and gives you access to meals, tent city, showers, indoor camping, evening entertainment and course support. Wristband and/or bike band checkpoints will be present along the routes so make sure yours is visible. If you see a rider during the ride not wearing a participant bracelet and using the services that YOU paid for, notify a CNC Staff member immediately. Let’s keep the “Ghost Riders” away. You will also receive a CNC bike band at check-in (similar to your wristband). This band is to be affixed on the head tube of your bicycle just under the handle bars. If you are riding a recumbent or other style of bicycle you will need to affix the band on your bike so

that it is easily visible. This also must not be removed unless you choose to leave the ride. Check-in Inclement Weather Policy: The Cycle NC Coastal Ride will continue rain or shine. If there is inclement weather, the 2016 CNC Coastal Ride check-in will be re-located to the Town Council Chambers, which is located at Colonial Park. If conditions are not safe and routes have to be closed, CNC will communicate through email and text message as well as post messages through our social media outlets (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter). See pages 5 & 6 for information on the CNC text messaging service, Weather Alerts and the Cycle NC Severe Weather Guidelines.

Event Parking Parking for the weekend is located at nearby public parking lots and any designated street side parking spaces in and around downtown. A map with weekend parking locations will be posted to the Cycle NC Coastal Ride website, located under the “Event Details” section and included in Part II of the participant guide.

RV Parking All RV’s, motorhomes and pull behind camper trailers will be assigned to designated locations in and around town. If you are planning on coming with an RV or Camper/Trailer, you will be contacted prior to the ride with instructions, assignments and directions for parking. Power and sewer are not provided, however portable restrooms will be available. Due to the number of RV’s and trailers, we cannot guarantee a location that will be close to Colonial Park and the waterfront campsite area. More details will be included in Part II of the Participant Guide. CNC Non-Riders Some riders like to share their Cycle NC Coastal Ride experience with family members who are not riding. We welcome non-riders and offer them a chance to tag along for the weekend. To decrease the amount of traffic on the roads, non-riders or support vehicles are not allowed on the routes. Non-riders must be officially registered, which provides access to the same amenities as a

Page 5: 2016 participant guide part 1

registered rider, minus the routes. All non-riders are required to wear a wristband during the weekend.

Volunteers Cycle North Carolina encourages non-riders to volunteer during the ride. CNC is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers for the event. Our main need for volunteers is at our Rest Stops along each days routes. If you are interested in volunteering or you know someone that is willing to volunteer or needs community service hours, please contact the CNC office via email at [email protected] or click HERE to fill out the online volunteer form.

Accommodations The Basics The Cycle North Carolina Coastal Ride offers camping options complete with services and amenities that make the stay an enjoyable and comfortable experience. The information below will provide you with all the details regarding the camping options at the Coastal Ride. Outdoor camping (tent city) options are provided in Downtown Edenton at Colonial Park and surrounding areas. If you choose to tent camp for the weekend, this is where you’ll be. Indoor camping will be located at the Edenton National Guard Armory and provides a large covered, dry, indoor space if you choose to avoid the hassle of setting up camping gear. Whether indoor camping or tent camping, you are responsible for providing your own gear (i.e. tent, sleeping bag, pad, cot, etc.) for the weekend. Reservations for indoor camping and outdoor camping are not required as space is first come first served. Quiet times at all campsites are from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. If you are a loud sleeper, please be considerate of others and find a secluded area where you will not disturb the other campers. Please note that you should avoid camping near any CNC vehicles, bike mechanic areas and any stages at camp as they may be noisy/lighted areas at night. Please keep in mind that these are not our facilities and we need to take care of them as much as possible. Please leave your camping area clean and respect the properties we are using.

Tent City – Downtown Edenton Tent camping is only available Thursday through Saturday night in Edenton. Access to the tent camping areas will begin at 3:00pm on Thursday, April 21. Tent camping will be available at three main locations: Colonial Park, Courthouse Green and Queen Anne Park (See map A). All three locations are located along the Edenton waterfront area on West and East Water Street (use 106 West Water Street for reference.) All three locations offer convenient access to the many downtown restaurants and shops. Overflow camping will be located at the Historic Cotton Mill lawn and is approximately ½ mile from Colonial Park. Please camp in designated areas only and do not set up tents in areas marked with “No Camping” signage. Parking at the three waterfront campsites will be available in public parking areas and in street side spots nearby. CNC staff, local law enforcement and volunteers will be onsite to assist participants with directions on where to park and set up camp. Come prepared to haul your gear to your camping areas as some sites may not have direct access from your parking area. A map indicating parking and camping locations

will be posted on the Cycle NC Coastal Ride website and included in Part II of the participant guide. Portable restrooms will be available at all campsites.

Indoor Camping – Edenton Armory Indoor camping will be located at the Edenton Armory (702 N Broad St, Edenton, NC 27932), which is located next door to the John A. Holmes High School. The Armory is only available Thursday through Saturday night. Access to the Armory will begin at 3:00pm on Thursday, April 21. The Edenton National Guard Armory provides a large open air room that offers plenty of space for you to sleep for the weekend. If indoor camping space becomes limited, you may be asked to store your bike outside. Tents are prohibited in the indoor camping location. Bathrooms are available at the Armory, but they are limited. Showers are not available at the Armory, but the shower truck(s) will be located at the main tent camping area in Colonial Park. Cycling shoes featuring recessed and non-recessed cleats must be removed prior to entering the indoor camping facility to prevent damage to the floors.

RV Camping We have reached our maximum capacity for RV’s, pop-up campers, truck trailers, etc. We are currently working on the details for parking during the weekend and we will detailed information in Part II of the participant guide. These parking locations will be available at designated locations around town as we cannot provide enough space for all RV’s and trailers at or near Colonial Park. You can plan on parking anywhere from .7 miles to 1 mile from Colonial Park and the Start/Finish line. You will be contacted prior to the ride with directions on where to park for the weekend. The RV’s, camper and camper trailer locations will be available beginning 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 21. Sewer and electrical hookups will not be available, but portable toilets will be provided at the sites. If you are looking for an area that provides full hookups, you can contact Rocky Hock Campground, which is approximately 10.5 miles from Edenton. For more information, visit http://www.visitedenton.com/rocky-hock-campground.

If you are bringing an RV, camper or trailer, then you must email, if you have not done so already, the following information regarding the vehicle to the CNC office at [email protected].

Type of vehicle/unit Size (ft), Date and approximate time you will be arriving A photo of your vehicle Names of other registered riders staying with you

This is not a reservation, but a way to help Cycle NC staff and the town of Edenton in determining how much space is required for RV’s, trailers and truck campers.

Camp Services Edenton Local Information Tent The Edenton Local Information Tent will be located next to the Cycle NC Rider Services area in Colonial Park throughout the weekend. This will be your main source for extensive information about the community, including planned activities, restaurants, hotels, local history, evening entertainment options and other valuable information. Friendly locals will answer questions and provide recommendations for food and entertainment options. Shower Facilities A shower trailer(s) will be available during the weekend unless there is a State or National emergency and the shower equipment is required for disaster relief. The showers will be located at the main outdoor camping area in Colonial Park and provides changing areas and sinks. If you are indoor camping at the National Guard Armory, showers are not provided, but it’s just a short walk or bike to the waterfront area. The shower trailer(s) will be available beginning Friday, April 22. Please be courteous and keep the showers and bathrooms clean. Remember to bring a towel and toiletries as CNC does not provide these items. Bike Mechanical Services & Retail

Cycling Spoken Here will be our bicycle support crew during the ride. Beginning Friday morning, Cycling Spoken Here’s team of bicycle technicians will provide mechanical support on the course and at the main campsite in Edenton. Bicycle pumps will be available each morning at the bike mechanic area in Colonial Park. Technical support is available for emergency repairs of well-maintained equipment. It’s your responsibility to make sure your bicycle is in good condition. Your bike must be tuned up prior to the ride. You never know what complications might be lurking to prevent you from having a successful bike ride. All mechanical services are provided to the cyclists at the normal shop rate. Riders will be responsible for any charges associated with service and parts. For those who forget their helmets or want to buy a pair of bike shorts or that fancy new GPS unit, the Cycling Spoken Here retail store will have a few cycling-related items for sale during the weekend. Stop by and say hello! BIKE RENTALS: If you would like to rent a bike for the weekend, Cycling Spoken Here can do that too! Stop in and talk to Dave or

any staff member. Click Here for additional details on pricing,

bike types, available sizes and contact information.

Bike Parking Bike security should not be an issue in Edenton, but it’s always great practice to secure your bike in some manner. Remember to bring your bike lock with you and always store your spare key or bike code in a place you can remember if you lose your keys or cannot remember the lock code.

Massage Services After a long day in the saddle, bring your tired legs down to the Cycle NC Massage area where our therapist will use a variety of Swedish, deep tissue and sports massage styles to keep you riding happy all weekend. Massages relieve muscle pain and tightness by stimulating circulation, clearing out the toxins that build up with extreme exertion and stopping spasms before they stop you from riding. Massages can be tailored to your pressure preferences and to the areas where you need it most. Therapist, Belinda Clark will be offering massage services for CNC participants throughout the weekend. Take advantage of this great service to help your body recuperate for the next day’s ride. For information on massage fees or to sign up for an appointment ahead of time, you can email Belinda at [email protected] or call her at 828-337-0577.

Lost and Found The Cycle NC Rider Services will serve as the Lost and Found site during the ride. If you have misplaced something during the ride, be sure to check periodically at this location. The CNC Rider Services will be open each morning at 8am and close each afternoon at 5:30pm (3pm on Sunday). Sometimes, found items end up at the Cycle NC main office after the ride ends so you can call us at 919-361-1133 or email [email protected]. Be prepared to provide a detailed description of the lost items. All items unclaimed after two months will be donated to Goodwill.

Event Communications Weather Alert System & Text Messaging Service If you would like to receive text messages from the Cycle NC Staff during the ride when there are event updates, route changes, then click HERE to sign up. Once you have signed up for this service, you will begin receiving text messages on Thursday, April 21 until Sunday, April 24. Standard text messaging charges may apply. Should you decide to wait and sign up at the event, a signup sheet will be available at Rider Services. Social Media: Cycle North Carolina is on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We will be taking photos during the event and posting them on our Cycle NC accounts so be sure to follow/like us. EMERGENCIES: All serious injuries that occur during ride will be handled by local EMS and hospital services. Dial 911 for all emergencies and provide the physical address along with your exact location at the campsite or on the route. The CNC Rider Services will be staffed throughout the weekend. Call the CNC Rider Services number (919-724-0299) any time during the ride if you are unable to locate a CNC staff member. There will be no refunds for bad weather situations, force majeure events, acts of god, etc. Basic first aid kits are located in each CNC SAG vehicle along the route and at the CNC Rider Services Tent. If assistance is needed during the ride, flag down a SAG vehicle. If you are taken in for medical treatment, the CNC Staff will help you locate your family, friends, bike, luggage, etc., but CNC Staff members are not able to provide you with transportation home. If you require services from a medical facility, you will be financially responsible. CNC Staff cannot be responsible for medications stored in CNC vehicles. If there is an emergency situation that requires you to return home during the ride, you will be responsible for your transportation, additional housing, or any additional expenses related to the situation.

SEVERE WEATHER GUIDELINES: Weather in mid to late April is typically cool in the mornings with mild temps in the afternoons with highs in the low to mid 80’s. Weather is very unpredictable and rain is a possibility. Cycle NC will continue on schedule despite poor weather conditions, unless the conditions are deemed unsafe. In order to protect the health and safety of all participant, the Cycle NC organizers may determine that the event is unsafe to continue and that your participation in the event may be terminated with no refund. If the event experiences severe weather (thunderstorm, tropical storm, hurricane, tornado, flooding. etc.) the CNC staff will take action to notify all participants, vendors, volunteers, etc. We will notify participants of any dangerous conditions that we are made aware of through; social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), group text service, email, SAG drivers, route support staff, sounding air horns and through local law enforcement. Your first priority must always be to seek shelter in a safe location until dangerous conditions no longer exist.

■ In case of lightning on the road Take immediate shelter at a house, if available. If no shelter is available, find a clearing away from trees. Never

stand near a tree. Lightning strikes the tallest point and travels downward, sometimes arcing to things — including people nearby. Once you find a clearing, squat on your toes with as little of your body touching the ground as possible.

Staying on a bike is an individual choice. It’s not the safest place to be, but sometimes it’s the safest place at the time. Rubber tires won’t protect you from lightning strikes, but you’re moving and not high up, so chances are extremely slim.

■ In case of hail on the road

A bike helmet will protect your head from getting hit. If the hail stays on the ground and you’re riding your bike, you could slip and fall. If there is no lightning, get under a tree. Generally if there’s hail with a severe storm, that probably means lightning in which case standing under a tree is not advised.

■ In case of a tornado on the road

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for formation of a tornado. It doesn’t necessarily mean a tornado has been spotted.

A tornado warning means that rotation has been spotted in the clouds or a funnel has actually touched down. If there’s rotation and there is a warning, take cover immediately.

A tornado will generally come from the southwest moving southeast. Most injuries and deaths from a tornado are the result of being hit by flying debris. A tornado can force a blade of grass into a fence post, so obviously it can kill a person. Tornadic storms can produce more than one funnel, lots of

lightning, rain and hail. In this storm, everyone should take immediate action and find shelter. If there are no homes, caves, etc., lay down in a low spot

on the ground not subject to flooding. ■ In case of lightning in camp

If there is a storm with lightning, is approaching the campsite an air horn will be sounded. If you hear an air horn blast, you must seek shelter in a safe location.

Do not stay in your tent if there is potential for lightning, high winds, flooding, or other dangerous conditions. Trees, limbs, power lines, etc. can fall on tents.

People who are camping under trees should leave their tents for safer places. Go to a building, picnic shelter, car, pool house, etc., away from metal and power poles with conductors in them. Be aware of your surroundings and locate the storm shelter in the area once you establish your campsite.

■ In case of hail in camp

In camp, there’s not a whole lot you can do. You are okay in your tent unless it is large hail, which will go right through. The biggest problem here is that if you have hail, you may have a severe storm coming.

■ In case of a tornado in camp

If there is a need to evacuate, move quickly but safely. The safest places are basements, inside rooms (never near

windows) on the northeast corner of the building, under stairs and in bathrooms.

Depending on your local weather service, you should have 10-15 mins after a tornado has been spotted to evacuate.

FAMILY EMERGENCIES: In extreme emergencies, family members can contact the CNC Rider Services by calling 919-724-0299. Bear in mind that it may take several hours to locate a rider and relay a message. Additional Emergency numbers will be listed on the cue sheets. If you experience or are involved in an accident along the route, there are two statewide emergency numbers: 911 – A statewide emergency number that will contact the local authorities *HP – A statewide emergency cell phone number to contact the local State Highway Patrol Office

Edenton Police Department – 252-482-5144

Cycle North Carolina Merchandise The 2016 Cycle NC Coastal Ride event shirts and pre-ordered cycling jerseys will be distributed at check-in beginning Friday, April 22. There will be a limited number of extra shirts and jerseys for sale during the ride. Beginning Friday morning, any vintage CNC short sleeved shirts that we have in stock will be available at discounted price of just $2! We will also have vintage jerseys (sizes and quantity are

limited), long sleeve shirts, Nike Dri-Fit hats, socks, stickers, etc. on sale.

In addition, non-event specific Cycle NC cycling gear will be available for sale. The list of items include cycling shorts and bibs, cycling wind vests, long sleeve heavy weight jerseys and short sleeve jerseys. The CNC merchandise will be available at the CNC Merchandise Tent daily from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. on Sunday). Recycling at the Cycle NC Coastal Ride Cycle NC continues to increase our recycling during all of its rides. Clear Stream recycling bins will be located at rest stops and at camp so place your plastic bottles or cans in the blue recycle bins to be recycled. These are not to be used for “trash” so please help keep the trash out. All trash should be placed in the “Black” trash bins. If trash is mixed in with the recycling materials we cannot dispose of it properly. Do your part and help us reduce our waste by recycling.

Your Carbon Footprint We know you are riding your bike all weekend, so your carbon footprint will be minimal, but help us reduce our carbon footprint before and after the ride by CARPOOLING.

CNC Riders with Medical Issues or Special Needs If you are participating in the Cycle NC Coastal Ride and you require special needs, requests or you have a medical issue that we may need to be aware of, please contact the CNC office prior to the ride and speak with a Cycle NC staff member.

Course Information Cycle North Carolina prides itself on providing a fully supported ride. Our goal is to help you finish the day’s ride. To that end, our courses are complete with the following services and amenities.

Route Cue Sheets, Maps and GPS Downloads The 2016 Cycle NC route cue sheets and maps will be provided electronically for you to download and print prior to arriving in Edenton. An email with a link to the Route and GPS webpage will be emailed to all registered participants on Monday, April 18. All cue sheets will be downloadable in PDF format. We use Ride With GPS to provide downloads to the Coastal Ride routes. Links to a variety of gps devices will also be available for download and will be offered in the following formats: Garmin Write, TCX Course, GPX Track, GPX Route and Google Earth. Refer to your gps device user manual for downloading instructions.

Course Hours Friday: 9am to 5pm Saturday: 8am to 5pm Sunday: 8am to 3p m The length of the ride each day is up to you. Ride as long or as short as you want (or not bike at all!). All routes begin and end at the waterfront campsite at Colonial Park. Course support services including directional signs and SAG (Support And Gear) vans will only be available during the course hours stated above. The rest stops each day will have set hours of operation and close at varying times during the day. Make sure to check the route cue sheets and maps for the open and closing times for each rest stop. Please note that Cycle NC does not use a multi-colored system for marking the routes. All routes will be identified with fluorescent orange markings using the Dan Henry route marking system, which is approved by the League of American Bicyclists. The directional circles will always be located towards the right hand shoulder of the road. In some cases when a route turns left, the markings will be located on both sides of the lane. Turns will also be marked with signs posted in the ground on the side of the road, similar to the one shown here. We often encounter roads that other cycling clubs use for their rides so be sure to ignore all other markings other than the ones below. If you choose to ride the Century Option, we will indicate the route length under the directional road markings when the route turns off of the original route. See Fig. A below for examples.

Cycle NC Route Support Cycle North Carolina provides exceptional routes and great course support. The goal of our SAG’s (Support And Gear) is to help you finish the day’s ride.

Route Hours: SAG support and rest stops are available only during the route hours (see “The Routes” section above for details). If you leave before the routes open, or you are still on the route after they have closed, we cannot provide you with support services. If you are still on the routes after they close, you will have very limited support. All rest stops and directional signage will be removed. If you need assistance on the routes, you can call the CNC SAG number listed on your cue sheets and maps (see SAG Support info below for additional details).

Rest Stops The Cycle NC Coastal Ride rest stops are located approximately 10 - 20 miles apart and feature snacks, drinks, Powerade, water, fresh fruit and more. Select routes will feature PB&J sandwiches, which will be indicated on your cue sheets. There you will find friendly volunteers preparing these sandwiches for you to refuel during the ride. For sanitary reasons, most snacks will be individually pre-packaged. To prevent the spread of germs, we ask that you do not reach for unpackaged snack items without first removing your cycling gloves (which are most always sweaty) AND washing your hands or using hand sanitizer. For sanitary reasons, never use your hands to get ice from the coolers. We cannot provide you with ice. Portable restrooms and hand sanitizer will be available at rest stops. Some rest stops may feature organizations that use this opportunity to fundraise and may have items at the rest stops for sale or for a donation. CNC encourages you to help these organizations as much as possible. However, Cycle NC will still provide the items as described above. Rest stops are great opportunities to get off the bike, stretch the legs and explore.

SAG Support There will be SAG Vans (white 15psgr vans, see photo at the top of this page) on the course each day. They are available to assist you as needed due to mechanical problems, fatigue, etc. During the hours the routes are open (see course hours on page 7), you may call or text the SAG number located on your route cue sheets and maps. When leaving messages, always include your location including street name, which route you are on, the

approximate mileage and reason for needing assistance. In case of an emergency, call 911 before contacting the SAG number. If at any time you need assistance, please signal a SAG van with a “thumbs down” signal or pat the top of your head. Another way to let a SAG driver know you need help is to turn your bicycle upside down or “wheels up” on the side of the road. For safety reasons, when waiting for a SAG make sure you are completely off the road and in an area where the SAG van can safely pull off the road. If you do take a ride in a SAG vehicle, you may be transported to the nearest rest stop rather than directly to camp. In addition, the SAG vehicles may not advance to a rest stop or return to camp until it has a full load. You will be required to sign-in with the SAG driver each time you utilize the SAG support.

Cycle NC Safety Pledge CNC needs your help to achieve our most important goal of a safe ride. During the weekend, we are all part of the same bike team/family and we need to look out for each other and help each other out when one needs it. By registering for this event, you agree to the following fourteen safety rules:

1. Helmets are cool! They protect your noggin so wear them at all times while on your bike. IT’S REQUIRED!

2. Follow the Law - it's the safest way to ride. Bicyclists have the same rights and duties as other drivers and need to follow the same traffic laws.

3. Stop completely at all stop signs and obey all yield signs 4. Use the proper hand signals to indicate your next move. 5. Keep your head up and ears open. Do not wear headphones

while riding! 6. If you have to stop at any time on the road, move your bike

completely off the road. 7. Ride in the right third of the lane if there is not sufficient

room for lane sharing. If the road is wide enough, ride just to the right of the travel lane to remain visible to other motorists.

8. Always yell out “car back” to surrounding riders. This passes the message forward when a vehicle is approaching from behind.

9. Call out “on your left” to alert a rider when you intend to pass. 10. Point out potholes, broken glass and any other hazards to

those behind you. 11. Always ride with your lights on, whether it’s sunny, foggy,

rainy, or low light outside. The more visible you are the better.

12. Always use common sense when on your bike. 13. Look out for railroad tracks and cross them at 90 degree

angles or just get off your bike and walk across. If you choose to ride, raise yourself off your seat and stand on your pedals to absorb the shock and lower the center of gravity. Angled tracks and low shoulders are major causes of injuries. ALWAYS walk your bike across if the tracks are wet, at an angle, or if traffic prevents you from crossing at a 90 degree angle.

14. Always follow the CNC Safety Rules.

Cycle NC Safety and Medical Tips Some tips on how to avoid dogs when on the route:

o Speed up! This depends on how fresh your legs are. o Yell at the dog! Yelling NO or DOWN usually works. o Kick at the dog! This depends on your agility as the dog is

nearing your ankle. o Use dog repellent. Please be careful when using on

aggressive dogs. o Spray them with water or Powerade. An alternative use for

your water bottle. Apply a waterproof sunscreen on exposed skin several times

daily. It should become a part of your rest stop routine. Wear padded gloves. Shake out your arms and legs every

couple of miles to avoid soreness. Drink plenty of fluids. Carry two bottles of water and drink

every 15 minutes. If you are not thirsty, drink anyways! You can become dehydrated without knowing.

Stretch before and after riding and take plenty of breaks during the day.

Wear a light, brightly colored jacket when riding in the rain. This will help prevent excessive loss of body heat that can result in Hypothermia. Plus, the brighter your clothing is, the easier it is for motorists to see you when driving in the rain.

Have your bike tuned up and inspected before your first day of riding. Inspect your bike daily during the ride

Take special care when riding in pace lines. Most accidents on the ride are a result of bike on bike contact.

Miscellaneous Children 16 and under must be supervised by a

parent/guardian at all times. You must receive permission from the CNC office in advance

to bring animals on the ride. CNC Staff will have the right to remove any rider from the ride

at any time with no refund. There will be no refunds for bad weather situations, force

majeure events, acts of god, etc.
