Students, Parents, and Friends of Michaels:

We are pleased to announce that The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation has

begun accepting resident scholarship applications for the 2016/17 academic year. All

residents of our military housing communities are eligible to apply. The grants can be used

by the recipients to cover education expenses at any accredited college, university, or

vocational training program in the country. Scholarship grants will total at least $225,000 for the academic year, and will be

awarded in June, 2016. The Foundation, in its twenty-sixth year, is issuing this invitation to distinguished residents who are

pursuing some form of higher education in college, trade/professional school, or institute. The Michaels Organization Educational

Foundation is a privately funded, non-profit educational organization that was created in February, 1991, expressly to assist high

school graduates living in Michaels properties throughout the nation. In its first twenty-five years, the Foundation awarded in

excess of $4,500,000 to worthy students throughout the country. This is one of the few foundations of its kind in the nation. The

Michaels Organization Educational Foundation encourages the financial support of corporations, companies, families, private

trusts, and individuals wishing to join in this effort to honor and assist those who are the future of the Michaels communities.

Please contact us if you have any questions about any phase of the Foundation's work to help students living in Michaels sites

throughout the nation. You can contact us on our website, www.themichaelsorg.com, or at your local Community Management

Office. The application is now available at:

EMPLOYEE

The Villages of Benning is honored to introduce Alicia Conners for the April Employee Spotlight of the month. Alicia joined the Villages of Benning team nearly ten years ago, in 2006, and has continued to be a valued member of the team. She initially began her Villages of Benning career in Leasing, as a Leasing Consultant, and has gone on to fill many rolls within the company. Today, Alicia holds the title of Administrative Assistant.

Alicia realizes that moving is a stressful time, and her top priority is to assist all Service Members, residents, and their families. She is always willing to step in where needed and to assist her teammates with various tasks. With her willingness to help and her positive attitude, Alicia truly exemplifies the meaning of “Team Player.”

Outside of work, Alicia is a proud mother of two daughters. She enjoys volunteering in the community and at her church home, Cascade Hills, as well as cooking and traveling.

Thank you, Alicia, for all of your hard work and dedication! We’re lucky to have you as a valued member of the Villages of Benning Team!

As I was walking around Doughboy Stadium a few weeks ago, I came to realize what a privilege it is to be on Fort Benning. Looking up at the bleachers and the beautiful arches, it is easy to reflect on the history of Doughboy and to imagine what it may have been like years ago. Although times have changed, one can almost feel the presence of past historical figures, as well as events that took place. Anyone having the opportunity to live on Fort Benning must come to realize all that it offers. Passing the jump towers, while driving to work, I see the Airborne soldiers hanging from the tower, anticipating their release. I have been here for ten years, and I still stop every time.

As a resident of The Villages of Benning, one has the opportunity to experience the history, events and the comradery that comes with living on-post. Whether one lives in a new home, a renovated home or a historical home, they have the opportunity to attend a resident event, to swim at their neighborhood pool, or to take a walk and take it all in. Walking safely down the tree lined street of Lumpkin, heading to either the walking paths or the soccer fields, is a great way to pass time on the weekend or on one’s lunch break. The Villages of Benning prides itself on creating a community-type feel, hosting monthly resident events and activities, as well as supporting Fort Benning events. Such events include The Villages of Benning’s Spring Spruce Up, as well as the Fort Benning Post-wide Yard Sale and Flea Market, both taking place in April.

Coming from a girl, who grew up in a small farm town in New York, I have to say how honored and proud I am to be a part of Fort Benning. I look forward to The Villages of Benning and Fort Benning’s future!

The Privileges of Living

on Fort Benning... By: Stefanie Jenkins, Assistant Community Director

Prevent Plumbing Problems Plumbing problems can potentially happen in any home. There are practices, however, that each resident can take to help prevent such issues. By taking the following steps, one may be able to keep plumbing issues to a minimum.

Remember, if you experience any form of Maintenance

Emergencies, please contact your local Management Office.

24 Hour Maintenance: 706-689-3929

To keep your home drains flowing freely, avoid pouring cooking oils, coffee grounds or other solids into the kitchen sink. Potato peelings are especially tough to grind up and will usually clog up the garbage disposal.

In the bathroom, remove any hair from the sink and tub promptly so that they’re not washed down the drain.

Toilet clogs can be avoided by being careful with what is flushed down the toilet. Items such as diapers, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes and paper towels can become lodged in the pipes of the toilet, resulting in major clogs.

Small sink and toilet clogs can usually be unstopped with a plunger. To use a plunger, fill the clogged vessel with water and then push the plunger straight down in a quick motion. You may need to repeat a number of times before the clog is pushed loose.

*There will be no changes to the Trash & Recycling Schedule for the month of April.

The Villages of Benning: The Villages of Benning Maintenance and Management Staff strive to provide excellent customer service to all residents.

Maintenance door tags are left at homes when residents are not present when the work is completed.

Phone call follow-ups are being conducted for all completed work orders, in addition to surveys being e-mailed.

Residents who have questions regarding the status of work in their homes should contact their management office for additional information.

Please keep a look out for the 2016 Resident Satisfaction Survey. The survey is scheduled to kick off on April 7th and will be sent to your primary e-mail address. Drawings will be held for those who complete the survey early, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to win great prizes!

Bulk Trash: We are happy to announce that a door-to-door bulk trash pickup was scheduled for the month of March. The Villages of Benning was able to provide this service due to a stronger than anticipated start to 2016. Additional monthly services will be scheduled as funding is available.

Mail Concerns: Indianhead residents have continued to experience issues with mail delivery. It has been reported that mail is being delivered opened and/or that packages have been delivered to the wrong address/box. These complaints have been submitted, and management continues to work with the US Postal Service to resolve such issues.

Pet Registration: Residents are concerned with the conflicting information that is received from off-post veterinary facilities and the Fort Benning Veterinary Clinic in regards to immunization requirements for registration. After speaking with the Fort Benning Clinic and confirming the requirements that are needed, The Villages of Benning has created a document outlining the requirements. This document will be made available to all current and incoming residents. As a reminder, pet registration must be renewed annually.

Street Lights: The lights in Custer Village have been repaired, and residents have expressed their appreciation. Residents are reminded to please contact their Management Office with any Road/Lighting concerns.

MWNS/AtHoc Alert System: To sign up for AtHoc, visit ht tps://warnings.army.mil/SelfService/Entry.aspx?pid=2538145

March Mayor Meeting Updates:

The Villages of Benning is always striving to improve its services. Although all requests cannot be approved, we appreciate and want to hear all of our residents’ ideas. All recommendations are welcome and will be taken into consideration for both immediate and future planning.
