Logging into the Program The 2016 TaxSlayer Pro Program requires that each preparer who uses the software log in with a unique username and password.
During the initial configuration of the program, a default Administrator (ADMIN) account was created. Usernames were also assigned for each preparer entered in the Preparer Setup Menu.
First Time Logging in The first time a preparer opens the program TaxSlayer Pro displays the TaxSlayer Pro Login window:
Enter your assigned username in the box provided. TaxSlayer Pro displays a message on the screen:
Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the New Password Entry box and instructions for creating a strong password:

Enter a strong password in the box provided. The strong password must be between 8 and 30 characters and:
Use upper and lower case letters (Example: AaBb) Use a number (Example: 123) Use a special character (Example: @!#$)
Press Enter.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Confirm New Password window:
Re-enter the password that you entered on the previous screen.
If the password you enter does not match the first password, TaxSlayer Pro displays an error message:
Click Ok.
Re-enter the strong password. Confirm the new password and press Enter.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Security Question window:
Select a security question from the drop down menu. Enter the answer to the question in the box provided. Click Ok.

TaxSlayer Pro Tip: The security question will be used to verify the preparer if the preparer forgets their password.
TaxSlayer Pro displays a welcome message:
Click Ok.
The preparer will have access to areas of the program as defined by their security role. If the preparer needs access to an area of the program that is not accessible because of their assigned security role, the ADMIN Account or another preparer who has been assigned the role of unlimited must log in to the program and change the preparer’s role.
TaxSlayer Pro Tip: To log out the current preparer, from the Main Menu of the program, click File at the top of the screen and click Logoff User.
Forgot Username/Password - Preparer When TaxSlayer Pro is opened each day, preparers must log in with their assigned username and the password they created.
The preparer will be given three (3) attempts to log in to the program with the correct username and password.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Login window:
Enter the assigned username and password.

TaxSlayer Pro Tip: If you cannot remember the password, click Forgot Password? on the TaxSlayer Pro Login Window:
TaxSlayer Pro displays a message. The preparer will have three (3) attempts to answer their security question correctly:
Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the preparer’s security question:
Enter the answer to the question. If the question is answered correctly, TaxSlayer Pro displays a prompt. You will need to provide a new password:

TaxSlayer Pro displays the Login window:
Enter the username and password.
If the username or password is incorrect, TaxSlayer Pro displays a warning:
Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Login window for a second time:
Re-enter the username and password.
If the username or password is still incorrect, TaxSlayer Pro displays the same warning. Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Login window for a third time. Re-enter the username and password.
If the username and password are still incorrect, TaxSlayer Pro displays a warning:

Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays a message. The preparer will have three (3) attempts to answer their security question correctly:

Logging in as ADMIN During the initial configuration of the program, a default Administrator (ADMIN) account was created. The ADMIN Account is used to manage permissions for preparers as well as manage preparer usernames and passwords. The ADMIN Account Role cannot be edited or assigned to any other preparer. The ADMIN Account username is ADMIN.
The ADMIN account can access all areas of the program except the tax returns menu. The ADMIN account is not a preparer account and will not be used to create or edit tax returns.
To log in to the program using the ADMIN Account, enter ADMIN as the username. Enter the password that was created for the ADMIN Account:
Click Ok.

If the username or password is incorrect, TaxSlayer Pro displays a warning:

Resetting the Program Password – ADMIN
In the event that the ADMIN cannot remember the password or the answer to the security question, a temporary program override can be obtained by logging in to your TaxSlayer Pro My Account.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the main page of your My Account. The link to reset the program password is located under the Security Settings section of the page:

Click Reset Program Password.
TaxSlayer Pro displays a Reset program password window:
Double-click on the red 7-digit code. Right-click on the highlighted code and select Copy.

Paste the code in the User Name box on the TaxSlayer Pro Login window:
Click Ok.
TaxSlayer Pro displays a message:
Click Ok.
To reset the ADMIN password, use the following steps from the TaxSlayer Pro main window:
1. Click Configuration or type the corresponding number. TaxSlayer Pro displays the Configuration Main Menu:

2. Click Firm / ERO / Preparer Setup or type the corresponding number.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Company Setup Menu:
3. Click Preparer(s) Menu or type the corresponding number.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Enter/Edit Preparers window:
4. Select ADMIN from the list and click Edit.

TaxSlayer Pro displays the Preparer Security Menu:
5. Click Password or type the corresponding number.
TaxSlayer Pro displays a question:
6. Click Yes. 7. Enter a new strong password and press Enter. Confirm the new password and
press Enter. 8. Exit to the main menu of the program. You must close the program and re-open it
and log in with the new password.
Resetting Passwords for Preparers If a preparer forgets their username and password and cannot remember the answer to their security question, the ADMIN account can be used to clear the password. Clearing the password will allow the preparer to create a new password when they log in to the program.
To clear a password for a preparer, the owner of the ADMIN account must log in as the ADMIN.

Once logged in as ADMIN, from the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro, click Configuration or type the corresponding number.

Click Firm / ERO / Preparer Setup or type the corresponding number.
TaxSlayer Pro displays the Company Setup Menu:
