Our Roses Gap camp allowed our students to participate in hands-on opportunities to study the bush environment in and around Halls Gap. The students stayed at the Roses Gap Recreation Centre and they took advantage of the wonderful learning experiences that were available. These activities included Abseiling, Giant Swing, Canoeing, Low Ropes Course, Flying Fox, Archery and a Vertical Play Pen. I would like to thank all the staff and parent volunteers who gave up their time to ensure that the students had a great camp experience. Your contribution is very much appreciated. Regional Athletics On Monday, Louis Markovic, one of our Grade 5 students, had the honour of representing our school at the Regional Athletics Carnival in Bendigo. This carnival was the final step for students to qualify for the State finals at Olympic Park in Melbourne. Louis put in a fantastic effort on the day coming first in his hurdles event and has qualified to represent our school at the State finals on Monday 24th October. Congratulations Louis, we are all very proud of your achievements in this area. School Planning for 2016 As I indicated in last week’s newsletter the school is currently working on class structures and staffing for next year. To assist with this I would ask that any parents who are still to finalise enrolments, or have plans to relocate, please let the office know as soon as possible so that we can include this information in our planning. Families that have particular circumstances that they would like taken into consideration are asked to put these in writing to me by tomorrow Friday 14th October so that they can be considered when formulating the 2017 class structures. Foundation Orientation Days Our transition sessions for our 2017 Foundation students will be starting next Monday 17th October. Each 2017 Foundation child will attend the school for an hour on a particular day over the next two weeks to participate in various activities with this year’s Foundation teachers. We see this as an invaluable experience for our new students and families, and look forward to meeting the children and beginning our relationships with them and their families. If there are any other families who still need to enrol their child in Foundation for 2017, or any other year level, our enrolment form is available from the General Office. Bendigo Cup Day Just a reminder to all families that Wednesday October 26th is Bendigo Cup Public Holiday and there is no school on this day. Strath PS Lapathon On Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 1st November, we will once again be holding our very successful Strath PS Lapathon. Our Foundation – Grade 2 students will be completing their laps from 11.30am – 12.30pm and our Grade 3-6 students will be participating from 12.30pm – 1.30pm. Parents, families and friends are all encouraged to come along and cheer on the students and to complete some laps with the students, if they would like. Strathfieldsaye Supa IGA Community 1st Supermarkets Community Rewards Program I am very pleased to announce that this week we received a cheque for $1317 for our participation in the Community 1st Supermarkets Community Rewards Program. Thank you to all our families who have already signed up for this reward program, and who swipe their card each time they make a purchase at IGA. Your dedication has assisted us in gaining these valuable reward points. If you regularly shop at Strathfieldsaye IGA and would like to be part of the rewards program to help our school raise additional funds, please call into the School Office or ask the cashiers for a form next time you are at the supermarket. School Review Report and Development of the 2016-2019 School Strategic Plan Following on from all the work we did last term as part of our School Review Process, we have received a report back from our school reviewer, Mike Rowland, which highlights our achievements over the last four years and makes some recommendations to work on in the coming years. At our School Council meeting next Tuesday 18th October we will be discussing some of the key findings from the report and spending some time reviewing our vision and values as part of our School Strategic Plan development. If you would like to participate in this important process, please feel free to come along. The meeting will be held in the school staff room from 7.00pm – 9.00pm next Tuesday.
