General Information

WELCOME The Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association invites you to attend the 2016 Winter Meeting, January 29—31, 2016 at the Shreveport Convention Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

REGISTRATION Registration is required for admission to the LVMA’s Winter Meeting (fee information is listed on the registration form on the next page). Please complete the enclosed registration form and return to the LVMA (Mail: 8550 United Plaza Boulevard, Suite 1001, Baton Rouge, LA 70809; Fax: (225) 408-4422; Or register online at www.lvma.org). The deadline for early registration is December 31, 2015. If your registration is postmarked after that date, or if you register onsite, please add $25.00. MasterCard, VISA, Discover and American Express are accepted. Please do not send cash through the mail. If registering on-site and paying with cash, please bring exact change.

Registration and check-in will be held at the Shreveport Convention Center: Thursday, January 28 3:00 p.m.—6:00 p.m. Friday, January 29 7:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30 7:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31 7:30 a.m.—8:00 a.m.

LAVT/NSU Technician Program Registration On Saturday and Sunday the Louisiana Association of Veterinary

Technicians (LAVT) in conjunction with the Northwestern State

University present a Veterinary Technician Program that is hosted by

the LVMA. Registration fee includes:

Veterinary Technician Program (12 hours)

Saturday and Sunday Continental Breakfasts

Admission to the Exhibit Area

Technician Luncheon

Spouse/Guest Registration Auxiliary Tour and Lunch (must RSVP to attend)

LSU Faculty Registration Admission to all CE sessions but NO credit will be received

OTHER STAFF REGISTRATION Office mangers, technician students, and other staff wishing to attend the Veterinary Technician Program or the Practice Management Sessions (15 hours) should use the appropriate section of Veterinary Technicians and Other Staff Registration form.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS The Hilton Shreveport Hotel is located at 104 Market Street, Shreveport, LA 71101. The special group rate is $115 per night for a standard room. Reservations can be made by calling (318) 698-0900 or online at https://resweb.passkey.com/go/2016LMVAWinterMeeting. To ensure availability of sleeping rooms at the LVMA rate, make your reservations by January 13, 2016.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS Cancellation requests must be received by the LVMA office by January 16, 2016 and will be subject to a $25.00 processing fee. If you need to cancel, please call the LVMA office at (225) 928-5862.

CONTINUING EDUCATION Attending the convention is a wonderful opportunity for veterinarians to receive the required 20 hours of continuing education credit. Continuing education proof of attendance forms will be available at the Winter Meeting. There is a different CE form for each day. It is your responsibility to pick up this document and mark which sessions you attend and the number of CE hours received. A tentative schedule is included within this brochure. *Schedule subject to change.

EXHIBIT PROGRAM The Exhibit Area will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29 and from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 30. Continental breakfasts and refreshments will be served in the Exhibit Area. To qualify for the door prize drawings that will be held during the Veterinarian Luncheon, have each exhibitor initial the Exhibitor Card in your registration packet and turn this card in at the registration desk prior to the start of the luncheon. Please be sure to visit with and thank each of our exhibitors and sponsors for their continued support of the LVMA.

CONTINENTAL BREAKFASTS Continental breakfast will be served on Friday and Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, and Sunday from 7:30 am to 8:00 am for registered attendees.

CHRISTIAN BREAKFAST The Christian Breakfast will take place on Saturday, January 30 from

7:00 am to 8:00 am. There will be a presentation from the LSU

Students sharing experiences from their mission trips as well as Dr.

Deb Mauterer. The price is $25.00 per plate.

BUSINESS MEETING & VETERINARIAN LUNCHEON The Business Meeting and Veterinarian Luncheon will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016. The purpose of this meeting is to inform you of the accomplishments made over the past year and the direction of the LVMA. The new LVMA officers and WJE trustees will also be installed and 2015 awards will be presented. **NEW THIS YEAR!** To improve planning, ticket purchase is required to attend the Business Meeting and Luncheon. Cost is $5 for Veterinarians and $30 for all other attendees. Please select and pay for tickets on your registration form to attend.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS Committee meetings are scheduled during lunch on Friday, January 29, 2016. Lunch will be provided for those committees that schedule a meeting in advance. If you are a member of a committee, please contact your committee chair or the LVMA office for more information.

AUXILIARY TOUR A fun-filled outing and lunch is being planned for Saturday, January 30 by the local committee. The tour cost is included in the auxiliary/spouse/guest registration fee. AWARDS Everett D. Besch Service Award, Veterinarian of the Year, Pet of the Year, Salesperson of the Year and Support Person of the Year will be awarded on Saturday, January 30 during the Veterinarian Luncheon at the Shreveport Convention Center. These awards are to honor those who give above and beyond to the veterinary profession.

Rick Alleman, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ABVP & ACVP received his DVM from Louisiana State University and practiced companion animal medicine and surgery for 9 years in private small animal practice in New Orleans. During that time he was board certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners with a specialty in companion animal practice. Dr. Alleman then completed a clinical pathology residency at the University of Florida and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists with a specialty in clinical pathology and completed his PhD degree in molecular biology of vector-borne diseases. During his professional career he has received numerous teaching, research and patent awards. In 2012 he received the Louisiana State University Distinguished Alumni Award. He is a former Professor, Service Chief, Resident Coordinator and Director of Laboratories at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine. He is currently CEO of Lighthouse Veterinary Consultants. Karanvir S. Aulakh, BVSc & AH, MS, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS) is an Assistant Professor at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. His areas of expertise include Companion Animal Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Surgical techniques for cranial cruciate ligament deficient-stifle, meniscal transplant, stifle kinematics, fracture repair, total joint replacement, soft tissue surgery, minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy, laparoscopy) and reconstructive surgery. Ray C. Baas is a business economist and principal of the firm DVM Consultants®, delivering practice brokage, valuations, financing, business education and consultation to veterinarians in the Gulf South and in Colorado. A native New Orleanian, he has a BS in Economics from the Univeristy of New Orleans, completed the LSU Graduate School of Banking and Tulane University’s Executive Management Training School. He has over forty years of experience in banking and commercial finance, has served as President and CEO of three commercial banks, two of which he organized or founded; and he has started, owned` and operated businesses in New Orleans and New York. Mr. Baas is a guest lecturer at LSU and Mississippi State veterinary schools, and a former adjunct professor of entrepreneurship. Ann Chapman, DVM, MS obtained her DVM from the Louisiana State University in 2001. She completed a three year residency in Equine Internal Medicine in 2005 at Louisiana State University and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) in 2006. She also received a MS in Veterinary Clinical Sciences in 2006 from Louisiana State University. From 2006-2009, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Veterinary Medicine in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Since 2009, she has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in Equine Ambulatory and Consulting Veterinary Specialist at LSU. Dr. Chapman teaches equine internal medicine to veterinary students in both the classroom setting and during a field service rotation. Her research are in the areas of equine infectious disease and endocrinology. Julia Coutin, DVM is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She graduated Magna Cum Laude while obtaining her Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 2007. In 2010, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Louisiana State University, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Julia Coutin continued her education and experience in veterinary medicine by completing a year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Florida. Thereafter, Dr. Coutin completed a three year combined surgical residency and Master’s degree program at the Virginia-

Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She achieved board certification in small animal surgery and is currently a vital part of the surgical team at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists. She is thrilled to be back in Louisiana and working close to family and friends. Jeannette Cremer, DVM, Dr.med.vet, DACVAA is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Dennis D. French, DVM, Diplomate ABVP (Equine) graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 1978 and began his professional career as an instructor at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine where he did both ambulatory and in-house medicine and surgery. Dennis then went to a private equine practice in Naperville, IL for a period of time before returning to LSU as an Assistant Professor of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. Dr. French was active in large animal practice during his career at LSU as well as being involved in numerous large animal research projects and has published over 60 referred papers on various large animal topics. He has also presented numerous presentations to audiences throughout the world. Dennis was able to progress through the academic ranks to the level of a tenured full professor in 1990. He became certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in equine practice in 1985, and has re-certified in 1993, 2006 and 2014. Dr. French served as the lead shelter veterinarian for the Hurricane Katrina equine relief effort in 2005, spending over 50 days meeting the needs of over 300 rescued horses, pot-bellied pigs and goats. He joined the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine as a Professor and section chief of the Rural Animal Health Management service in 2009 and continues to serve in that role. Jacques Fuselier, DVM, DACT, DABVP (Food Animal) Following graduation from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, Dr. A. Jacques Fuselier opened a mixed-animal veterinary clinic in southern Louisiana. A significant portion of his practice centered on overall beef cattle herd health, identifying and improving sub-optimal herd performance, and large animal theriogenology. Dr. Fuselier left private practice in 2010 to accept a Visiting Clinical Instructor position in the food animal section of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2011, he successfully became board certified with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in the Food Animal practice category. He also became board certified with the American College of Theriogenologists in 2013. In addition, Dr. Fuselier successfully completed the Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians Course at the national Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Plum Island, New York. Dr. Fuselier currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Farm Animal Health Management at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Marjorie S. Gill, DVM, MS, Diplomate, ABVP practiced for 5 years in a mixed animal practice in Northeastern Iowa after graduation from veterinary school in 1976. She then returned to the Iowa State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital as a clinician in the food animal service for 3 years while simultaneously pursuing an MS degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences. In 1984 she accepted a clinical track food animal position at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she was working for the past 30 years. During this period of her career she successfully completed ABVP (Food Animal Practice Specialty) board certification and recertification twice. Her major responsibilities and interests include teaching and hospital service. Dr. Gill retired in July 2015. Sonya G. Gordon DVM, DVSc, DACVIM is board certified in cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She is currently an Associate Professor at Texas A & M College of Veterinary

Medicine and Biomedical Science where she is part of a busy progressive cardiology program. She is routinely an invited speaker at local, national and international veterinary meetings. Although she considers herself a clinician and teacher first her research interests include; canine chronic valve disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, imaging, interventional procedures and clinical trials. She has published numerous manuscripts and book chapters and recently co-authored a practical small animal clinical cardiology book entitled The ABCDs of Small Animal Cardiology. She considers her home College Station TX where she shares her life with her husband, 4 dogs and 2 cats. Caroline Goutal-Landry, DVM, ACVIM is a native of France. She graduated in 2008 from the National Veterinary School of Alfort in Paris. She then completed a human echocardiography training prior to completing a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Tufts University in 2009. She then completed a three-year residency at the Louisiana State University in 2012 and obtained board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She was awarded best teaching intern/resident 3 years in a row at LSU. Her areas of interest include cardio-respiratory medicine and gastroenterology. Dr Goutal-Landry has combined her passion for marine mammals and traveling by performing several missions in the Mediterranean Sea, Madagascar and Canada. She is also currently a volunteer at the Institute of Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) in Gulfport, Mississippi. In her spare time, Dr Goutal-Landry enjoys spending time with her husband Brandon, a native of Baton Rouge, and their many pets. David F. King, DVM, CVA A proud, unapologetic Texan and self-proclaimed “steak snob”, David King has been with Simmons & Associates as the Southcentral territory owner since 1997. After graduating from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987, Dr King went on to have a successful career in north Texas. He founded Crossroads Pet Hospital, Golden Opportunity Veterinary Rescue Organization, and Bar King Ranch. He also co-founded the North Texas Pet Emergency Clinic in Carrollton, Texas. Crossroads Pet Hospital won dual national awards, honored by Veterinary Economics with Hospital Design and Practice of Excellence Awards. He is a licensed veterinarian and real-estate broker in Texas. In addition to veterinary association memberships, Dr. King is a charter member of Vet Partners, serving on its Valuation Committee, and he is also Trustee for the Simmons Educational Trust (SEF). As a member of the National Association of Credited Valuation Analysts, he earned the advanced designation of Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA). Dr. King keeps busy in his personal life as well. He and his wife Teresa are extremely committed to golden retriever rescue. They share their life and household with six dogs, so several nights a week you can find Dr. King and his wife (who is a registered technician) treating and caring for several golden retrievers for a Dallas rescue group so that more dogs and people can share companionship. When there is a spare moment between Simmons and rescue work, Dr. King will partake in one of his other two passions, cars (mainly corvettes) and photography. He is a National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Master Judge (highest level) and serves as the judging Chairman for the state of Texas. Sometimes his other hobby will overlap when he gets to photograph cars otherwise you will see him capturing images of dogs and nature. He has sold several pieces of his work and has also been published. Ronald Koh, DVN, MS, CVA, CVCH, CCRP is an assistant professor in integrative medicine and physical rehabilitation at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Koh studied veterinary medicine at National Chung Hsing University, in Taiwan. He completed

a specialty internship in acupuncture and received his Master’s degree of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida. His primary clinical interests are the treatment of orthopedic and neurological disorders with of acupuncture, herbal medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Koh's research interests have involved pain management, nerve injury, and cancer management. Dr. Koh lectures internationally on acupuncture, traditional Chinese veterinary medicine and rehabilitation for veterinary schools, conferences, and general public events. John Mauterer, DVM, Dipl. ACVS, is a native of the City of New Orleans. He is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine 1987. In 1992, he completed his Residency in Small Animal Surgery at The Ohio State University. Upon completion Dr. Mauterer achieved Board Certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He remained on faculty at The OSU for 2 years before going into private practice in Columbus Ohio. In 1998, he and his wife Deb founded the Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center, where they worked until 2010. From 2010 to 2012 Dr. Mauterer worked part-time as faculty at The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, while also establishing his traveling surgery service: Mobile Veterinary Surgical Services Inc. In September of 2012, Dr. John and Deb established the surgical services at The Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists, where they are today. He lectures at national meetings and has written numerous articles and book chapters. He was co-inventor and patent holder of the non-endoscopic technique for gastrostomy tube placement. They now travel to Asia and Africa providing aid to areas in great need of veterinary services, as well as, serving regularly at the New Orleans Dream Center, providing veterinary services for the homeless and those in poverty. Dr. Mauterer serves on the Board of Advisors for Christian Veterinary Mission - USA. Also, he received the 2012 Dean Everett Besch, Distinguished Service Award from the LVMA and the 2012 Southwest Veterinary Symposium's Visionary Award for his professional, educational, and community service. Dr. Wilson W. McManus II, DVM CVPM is pleased to represent Simmons & Associates MidSouth, serving veterinary professionals in Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. Dr. McManus offers a unique blend of veterinary practice ownership and business knowledge, along with a passion for veterinary medicine. As the owner of Valley Animal Hospital & Pet Resort, an AAHA accredited hospital, and active ownership interest in two other hospitals, he understands first hand the business and medical aspects of veterinary medicine. Valley Animal Hospital & Pet Resort has the distinction of being awarded the Small Business of the Year for the State of Alabama in its category, in 2006 by the Alabama Retail Association. The son of a practicing veterinarian, Dr. McManus earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal and Dairy Sciences from Auburn University and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1988. He is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. He earned his certification as a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) from the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association. Dr. McManus is a charter and current member of Veterinary Management Groups V in association with Veterinary Study Groups Inc. Through this ongoing association he has extensively studied the metrics and business principles that go into creating a top performing hospital. Dr. McManus also studied over a two-year period to become a graduate of the E-Myth Mastery Entrepreneurial Business Development Program. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. McManus is a licensed real-estate agent and has many years of experience in commercial real-estate investment and management. For eight years, with a local church, he started and operated an annual veterinary medical clinic in Honduras working with both large and small animals in remote villages. He lives in Huntsville, AL with his wife, three children and many pets. Dr. McManus has the

Kristy Miller, DVM received her degree from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Dr. Miller has practice experience as both an Equine Practitioner at Equine Medical Associates in Tustin, CA, and as a Small Animal Practitioner at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest in Houston, TX. She also has experience working in industry, currently serving as a Professional Services Veterinarian at Boehringer Ingelheim, covering the Texas Region. Kathleen B. Mullins, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA graduated from Mississippi

State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She completed

a small animal internship at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince

Edward Island, Canada. A residency in small animal surgery at

Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine was

completed in 2010. She joined a private referral and emergency

hospital in Decatur, AL, during which time she achieved Board

Certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. In late

2014, she and her husband, Jason, moved to his hometown in Louisiana

to take over his family farm. Dr. Mullins established Acadiana

Veterinary Surgery as a mobile surgical service to provide the

veterinarians and pet owners of Acadiana and surrounding areas with

the expertise of a surgical specialist in the comfort of their local clinic.

Surgical procedures include a full array of orthopedic, soft tissue,

neurologic, and oncologic specialized procedures.

Dr. Brook A. Niemiec is a 1994 graduate of the University of California, Davis. He is a Board Certified specialist in Veterinary Dentistry by the American Veterinary Dental College as well as the European Veterinary Dental College. Further, he is a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. He is immediate past President of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry as well as its representative to the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. He is Chief of Staff of Southern California Veterinary Dental Specialties with offices in Santa Barbara, San Diego, Irvine, Ontario, and Murrieta California, as well as Las Vegas, Nevada and New Orleans LA. As an advocate for oral health he is a regular speaker on the local, national, and international levels. In addition, he has authored many articles, chapters, and books including the recently published “Small Animal Dental Oral, and Maxillofacial disease, A Color Handbook” and “Veterinary Periodontology”. Through Practical Veterinary Publishing he has published veterinary dental specific titles including: extractions, endodontics, orthodontics, dental emergencies, and restorations. He founded the premier veterinary dental telemedicine website vetdentalrad.com, through which has produced instructional videos and educational posters. Finally, he coordinates the San Diego Vet Dental Training Center. This has 3-4 meetings a year covering basic and intermediate veterinary dentistry. Dr. Jason Osterstock is the Global Genetics Technical Services Lead for Zoetis with responsibility for supporting the development and commercialization of genomic technologies in beef cattle, dairy cattle, and sheep. He received his BS and DVM from The Ohio State University and completed an internship at Colorado State University prior to

working as an associate veterinarian in a mixed animal practice in Nebraska. Dr. Osterstock spent 6 ½ years at Texas A&M University including completion of a PhD in genetic epidemiology, faculty service in the veterinary teaching hospital, and leading ruminant health research efforts as an assistant professor at Texas AgriLife Research in Amarillo, TX. Dr. Osterstock joined Zoetis, formerly Pfizer Animal Health, in 2010 and has worked in various capacities in the genetics and animal health businesses. He currently lives in Kalamazoo, MI with his wife and 3 children. Phil Padrid, DVM graduated from Cornell University in 1985, where he received an award in Cardiology. He completed his internship at Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital in 1986, residency in small animal medicine at UC-Davis Veterinary School in 1988, and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UC-Davis Medical School in 1990. Dr. Padrid served for 10 years as an associate professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He became a partner in Family Pet Animal Hospital in Chicago full-time in 2003, specializing in respiratory medicine.He remains an associate professor of Molecular Medicine (adj) at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and associate professor of Small Animal Medicine (adj) at the Ohio State University. In 2007 Phil joined VCA as the southwest medical director based in Albuquerque. Jonathan L. Roberts, DVM, MS is a Regional Veterinary Medical Officer for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. In addition to regulatory assignments, Dr. Roberts is the Cattle Health Program coordinator as well as a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician. Dr. Roberts received his B.S. in Animal Science from Louisiana State University in 2000. He received his DVM degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Dr. Roberts also received a M.S. degree in Animal Science, Reproductive Physiology, under Boyd Professor Dr. Robert Godke in 2009. His research was related to heifer reproductive development. Dr. Roberts was the owner/practitioner at a large animal exclusive, ambulatory veterinary practice, Country Roads Veterinary Services, from 2008 until 2014. As a private practitioner, Dr. Roberts performed veterinary services for cattle, horses, small ruminants, deer and exotic hoofstock. Dr. Roberts joined the LDAF Veterinary Health Division in February 2014. Diane Stacy, DVM is the Assistant State Veterinarian at the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF) in the Veterinary Health Division. Dr. Stacy received her undergraduate degree from LSU and her DVM from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Dr. Stacy owned two practices and worked as a mixed animal practitioner in Greenwell Springs and Baton Rouge for 22 years. She joined LDAF in 2004 in a dual appointment as Area Veterinary Medical Officer (VMO) and State Homeland Security Program Coordinator and was appointed Assistant State Veterinarian in 2010. She has been trained at Plum Island Animal Disease Laboratory as a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician (FADD) and currently coordinates State/Federal livestock disease surveillance programs in Louisiana. Diane has been married to Mike Stacy, DVM for 27 years and they have two adult children, Jeffrey and Patricia. Mike Strain, DVM, Commissioner, La. Dept. of Agriculture & Forestry took the oath of office for his second four-year term as Louisiana's Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry on January 9, 2012. A native of Covington, Dr. Strain earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from LSU in 1983. In 1999, he was elected to the first of two terms as State Representative, where he served on the Agriculture Committee and chaired the Legislative Rural Caucus. He was twice named Legislator of the Year by the St. Tammany Parish Alliance for Good Government. In 2003, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine

presented Strain its Distinguished Alumni Award. Strain was awarded the Future Farmers of America’s highest national award, the Honorary American Degree, in August 2009, and he was inducted into the LSU Alumni Association Hall of Distinction in May 2010. Strain was named Conservationist of the Year in January 2012. In January 2013, he was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. He recently completed terms as president of SUSTA (the Southern United States Trade Association) and SASDA (the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture), and is the second vice president of NASDA (National Association of State Departments of Agriculture). He is also the chair of the NASDA Animal and Plant Industries Committee and he holds a commission from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration. Strain is married to Dr. Susan Searcy Strain of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and they have two adult children. Gabe Van Brunt, DVM, DACVO, is a Louisiana native and grew up in his hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Following internship, he completed an ACVO approved residency program at the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic in Dallas, Texas. After completion of the third year of residency, he took the ACVO Board certification exam and was awarded diplomate status by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. After working as an associate in Dallas, Dr. Van Brunt followed his dream of moving back home to Louisiana and establishing his Ophthalmology Referral Center, Southern Veterinary Eye Care, in Mandeville, Louisiana. Dr. Van Brunt’s special interests are micro-incision cataract surgery, corneal repair and reconstruction, and Ahmed Valve implantation for treatment of glaucoma. Robbie van Mullem, B.S. is President and CEO of 3 Sided Media and Review Retrievers, which he founded in 2010. Under his leadership, 3 Sided Media has developed all types of veterinary and medical websites (small animal, mixed animal, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy) that now reach millions of people every year. Robbie van Mullem was raised in the Hammond, Louisiana area, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1995 after serving in the US Navy. Robbie began his career in the animal health industry with IDEXX Laboratories. After a number of years as an in-clinic laboratory representative and earning the prestigious President’s Club Award, Robbie was then promoted to area instrument manager.
