The ;rst type of animal is herbivores. "erbivores are animals that eat plants to get their
energy. They eat only plants and do not eat any meat. "erbivores are close to the bottom
of the food chain because they are eaten by other animals. "erbivores have Cat teeth that
make it easier to grind the plants they eat. They have special stomachs that help them
break down plants. ows and elephants are e6amples of herbivores. They eat only things
like grass and grain.
The second type of animal is carnivores. arnivores get their energy from other animals. They eat only meat. arnivores are predators because they hunt and kill their food. They
are at the top of the food chain. They need a lot of energy so that they can catch their own
food. arnivoreow give a short presentation about the two types of animal. Dse the picture to help youe6plain the two types. 0e sure to include as many details as you can about each type.

: >ow listen to a teacher talking to a science class. The teacher is e6plaining the life cycle
of salmon.
: "ello class "as anyone here ever been to the ocean! There are many di%erent kinds of
;sh in the ocean, but one of the most interesting is salmon. Today we will talk about the
$i(e c-c$e of "a$mon. There are four "tage".
The ;rst stage is the egg stage. 8almon eggs are laid in freshwater rivers. The eggs are
covered in sand to give them protection while still allowing the water to Cow around them.
The eggs are pink in color. The water speed and temperature need to be at a certain levelfor the eggs to develop properly making this the riskiest of the four stages for the salmon.
The second stage is the alevin stage. n alevin is an orange sack with little eyes and it
comes out of the egg. The orange sack, or the Jyolko one is quite sure how they do this, but some say they are able to smell the
di%erences between the water in di%erent rivers. s the salmon travels upstream, its
colors change.
Prompt>ow give a short presentation about the life cycle of salmon. Dse the picture to help youe6plain the four stages. 0e sure to include as many details as you can about each stage.
