Integrity Program HIGHLIGHTS The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program, the first of its kind, is active around the world to explain and harmonize the standard’s criteria through different kinds of Certification Body (CB) trainings by monitoring CB performance through CB office and producer assessments by investigating complaints and improving the GLOBALG.A.P. System by collecting the feedback from all these activities and providing the input for the standard’s development. It also includes the protection of the GLOBALG.A.P. brand by monitoring and controlling the proper use of claims, completeness and accuracy of the information in the GLOBALG.A.P. Database, compliance with contractual agreements and the control of potential frauds. The analysis of complaints and information regarding noncompliances or misuses are used to program integrity assessments and forwarded to the CBs. Certification Body Trainings Every CB working in the GLOBALG.A.P. System has to have a Scheme Manager, who has to attend an annual update workshop (SMU – Scheme Manager Update workshop), and an InHouse Trainer, who is scopespecific, and responsible for the training of auditors and inspectors, and has to attend a facetoface training (IHT – In House Trainer training) and pass an exam on the content of the whole GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) Standard for every standard’s version. All GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors, who are the ones auditing the Quality Management Systems (QMS) of producer groups and multisite producers, have to attend a facetoface training and pass an exam on how to audit the GLOBALG.A.P. QMS (QMS Auditor training). And all GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors and inspectors have to pass an online exam per standard version on the content of General Regulations (GRs) and Control Points and Compliance Criteria (CPCCs). Between January and July 2016, approximately 1,000 GLOBALG.A.P. auditors and inspectors passed the online exam for IFA Version 5 and 300 auditors and inspectors passed the online exam for Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard Version 5. Integrity Program HIGHLIGHTS

The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrity Program, the first of its kind, is active around the world to explain and harmonize the standard’s criteria through different kinds of Certification Body (CB) trainings;; by monitoring CB performance through CB office and producer assessments;; by investigating complaints;; and improving the GLOBALG.A.P.

The analysis of complaints and information regarding non-compliances or misuses are used to program integrity assessments and forwarded to the CBs.

Certification Body Trainings

Every CB working in the GLOBALG.A.P. System has to have a Scheme Manager, who has to attend an annual update workshop (SMU – Scheme Manager Update workshop), and an In-House Trainer, who is scope-specific, and responsible for the training of auditors and inspectors, and has to attend a face-to-face training (IHT – In House Trainer training) and pass an exam on the content of the whole GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) Standard for every standard’s version.

All GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors, who are the ones auditing the Quality Management Systems (QMS) of producer groups and multisite producers, have to attend a face-to-face training and pass an exam on how to audit the GLOBALG.A.P.

Certification Body Office and Producer Assessments (Jan – July 2016):

The aim of CB office and producer assessments is to verify that certification activities carried out by CBs are carried out in accordance with the scheme’s normative documents (General Regulations, License Agreement, Control Points and Compliance Criteria, etc.).

Between January and July 2016, six new CBs were approved for different GLOBALG.A.P. scopes (Fruit & Vegetables, Chain of Custody, Plant Propagation Material, Flowers and Ornamentals and CBL-Chain of Custody Slaughterhouses). One CB stopped working with the standard.

By the end of July the number of GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs was 149. During the first half of 2016, 20% of those CBs were under assessment.

During 2016 a new Integrity Assessor was incorporated in the team, which currently consists of 6 assessors covering the following languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Bulgarian and Greek.

After review of the reports, CB assessments are classified according to their performance:

1 (Unacceptable performance: GLOBALG.A.P. to take action immediately);; 2 (Very poor performance: CB needs major improvement);; 3 (Inadequate performance: CB needs some improvement);; 4 (Acceptable performance) and 5 (Performance well above average).

Producer assessments:

Since the start of the Integrity Program in 2008, a clear decline of CBs with unacceptable or very poor performances during integrity assessments (Classifications 1 and 2) can be seen. Acceptable performance (Classification 4) is growing in %, but there are still CBs that show a need for improvement (Classification 3). Continuous monitoring based on risk assessment is a key factor to keep these values improving.

GLOBALG.A.P. Assessor Profile

Heidi Gremminger, Agricultural Engineer

Background and Qualifications

I graduated as Agricultural Engineer specialized in Intensive Agricultural Production in 1996. I also passed all required subjects of a Master in Environmental Sciences, but never had the opportunity to finish the thesis. As a student I worked in the area of vegetable tissue culture. After graduation, I carried out research in Entomology and Horticulture Protection at university and in a research station (INIA). Afterwards, I worked in the Certification Program of Propagation Material of the Ministry of Agriculture (Uruguay), monitoring pests and diseases within the national Integrated Fruit Production Program, and as a field advisor for groups of fruit and wine growers. Between 2003 and 2008, I worked in a Certification Body as Product Manager for fresh produce standards and was qualified as an auditor for those standards too (GLOBALG.A.P., Chilegap, USGap and Tesco Nature’s Choice). At the same time, I received qualification as a Management Systems Auditor (ISO 9000 and ISO 14000), Food Safety Systems Auditor (GMP, HACCP and BRC) and as a trainer.

Role at GLOBALG.A.P.

Since 2008 I have been working for the Integrity Program at GLOBALG.A.P. and later also began working as an ISCC Integrity Assessor and GLOBALG.A.P. trainer. Afterwards, while I kept performing these tasks, I supported the Capacity Building and Standard Management Department, providing technical support for standards and training material development, reviewing standards applying for benchmarking and National Interpretation Guidelines. I have also supported good agricultural practices projects, especially in Latin America (e.g. localg.a.p.), and coordinated the Latin American Certification Body Committee.

On the Personal Side

In my free time I volunteer for an NGO that supports organizations that give educational opportunities to Uruguayan children in need, as I believe education is the most powerful tool to build equal societies and for each human being to develop its own potential. During my holidays I like to go to the beach. I like to be in contact with nature and enjoy the sense of freedom the ocean provides.
