systems that provide healthy food as locally as possiblethrough innovative programs of education, marketing andadvocacy in service to its members and the general public.

WHAT WE DO

Sustainable Agriculture Education Our SOIL (Strategic Outreach for Innovation and Leadership) Insti-tute aims to improve agricultural soils while also growing a commu-nity of innovators and leaders for a sustainable future. Through ourFarmer-to-Farmer Exchange events, including field days, hands-onworkshops and our renowned Farming for the Future annual confer-ence, we help farmers connect and explore new techniques. Foraspiring farmers, we offer credentialed Farmer Training and Devel-opment programs. The SOIL Institute also conducts Farm-BasedResearch to help our farmers monitor and improve their the sustain-ability of their farms.

Marketing and Business SupportWe provide businesses with connections and resources to fulfilltheir mission. Our 1LOCAL Index gives food businesses tools tomeasure and communicate their local food impact. Our variousresource guides provide valuable promotion to the businesses thatsupport sustainable agriculture.

Consumer OutreachAlong with partner organizations, we coordinate Buy Fresh BuyLocal® initiatives in Pennsylvania, helping consumers find, chooseand appreciate seasonal, local foods. Our Good Food Neighbor-hood® engages our community around food and agriculture issues,through news updates, events and calls to action.

Advocacy for a Fair and Sustainable Food SystemIn coalition with other organizations, we monitor legislative activi-ties on statewide and national levels, making recommendations forpolicies that promote farmland preservation, farmer retention, pro-tection of natural resources and increased access to healthy food.

Community BuildingOur networking events, education opportunities and other servic-es create a growing support system of farmers, entrepreneurs andinformed consumers.
