From the Editor
Welcome back if you have now returned to work, after a summer spent lazing in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Nantucket or wherever you go to unwind. The 29th being a public holiday here in the UK, some of our readers won’t be restarting the grindstone until September 5th. All of this explains why August is a slow news month for newsletter (and other media) editors; as a result we have omitted the news sections from this issue - they will be back in September.
Our feature article this month is on the TSensors initiative, a project by the US MEMS and Sensors Industry Group to drive applications which will support production of 1 Trillion sensors a year. Among the six target industry sectors are three we support: Health; the Environment; Food and Agriculture.
The program for the Innovation in Environmental Monitoring program is now in place - a joint Sensor100/University of York Conference. Early registration closes on 7 September, so Register now.
Call for Papers for our flagship Sensors in Medicine 2016 conference closes on 30 September. There will be several new features this year, including a session at which emerging companies can pitch for partners - financial, strategic, cus-tomers. Send your Abstract in as soon as possible; we will try to accommodate as many papers as possible.
We have launched a new section this month - Sensors People in the News - so please send us people related announcements.
Look forward to seeing you at one or more of our events in the next three month.
Kind regards

TSensors Strategic Markets and Technologies Reviews
Call for White Paper Abstracts
TSENSORS™The MEMS & Sensors Industry Group® TSensors (Trillion Sensors) is a sensor based initiative to focus on a future world with food, medical care, clean energy and a clean environment for all. Sensors will play an integral role in these four major vertical markets; the TSensors initiative aims to accelerate the commercialization of low cost sensors and new sensor types to address these applications. The TSensors initiative was conceived by and launched in 2012 by Dr. Janusz Bryzek, and has resulted in a se-ries of TSensor Summit meetings, as well as a number of publications. TSensors is allied with the Abundance community, and the Singularity University.

TSensors Strategic Markets and Technology ReviewsTSensors Strategic Markets and Technologies Reviews are conceived as a collection of White Papers written by academic, research and industrial visionaries characterizing the emerging sensing, MEMS, related infrastructure technologies and applications enabling largest business opportunities for sensor and related industries in coming decades. It is planned to publish them in paper-on-demand format and as on-line searchable docu-ments.
Six TSensor Review themes have been selected based on seven TSensors Sum-mits, and the eleven Global Grand Challenges representing the world’s biggest problems identified by Singularity University. The solutions to these prob-lems are expected to create demand for billions to trillions of new sensor based connected nodes processing massive sensor generated data.
TSensors Reviews are selected applica-tions deemed by TSensors leaders as the biggest business opportunities in history for sensor and related industries.
These opportunities are expected to cumulatively consume trillions of sensor - based network nodes. It is likely that there will be very few emerging sensor based applications capable of generating the demand for trillions of sensors by 2025 - 2035. Only applications driven by billions of users or by global infra-structure demand, both supported by global economic tides, will be capable of driving sensor demand to this level.

The 4th annual Sensors in Medicine Conference will bring together academic, clinical and commercial experts to explore new ideas and innova-tions in the application of sensors to medicine and healthcare.
This unique Conference focuses on applications to diseases and patient out-comes, as well as on sensor technology. The Conference is an opportunity to explore new developments at all stages in the pathway from laboratory, to early stage company, through corporate partnerships to the clinic. Sensor technology is also becoming increasingly important through wearable sen-sor technology, both for monitoring chronic diseases and improving health through lifestyle changes.
Papers and Posters are invited on the Conference topics:Implantable and wearable sensors
Sensors and PoC for infectious disease diagnosisSensors for diabetes management
New and Advanced sensor technology for healthcare

Introducing the First Sensors in Medicine
HackaThonWhen: 11th November 2016 - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Where: DoubleTree Docklands Hotel, London
What’s a HackaThon:
Teams of post-graduate students will spend the day devel-oping innovative ideas for the application of sensor tech-nology in medicine and healthcare. There will be a short introduction to the task, and some advice on problem solving. Teams will have access to one or more mentors. At the end of the day, each team will present to a judging panel
Who are the judges:
A distinguished group of academic and industry represen-tatives
Is there a prize:
Like MasterMind, the prestige of winning the SiM16 Hack-aThon. We hope there will be modest seed money to allow the winning team to take the idea further
What does it cost:
Students registered for SiM16 come free. For others, there is a £60+VAT entry fee
How do I enter:
You can enter as a team, or individually, and we will assign you to a team
Sounds interesting? Email [email protected] to let us know you would like to take part.

Scienfic Consultant in Electrochemistry
Contamination of drinking water with arsenic is a significant global health problem, affecting an estimated 150 million people worldwide. Bio Nano Consulting is developing AquaAffirm™ as a simple, affordable test to precisely measure arsenic contamination. With a design based on the well-known diabetes test, AquaAffirm™ will revolutionise management of this problem, empowering local communities to address this issue directly at the point of use.
BNC has one full-time Scientific Consulting role in Enzyme Electrochemistry available. The post-holder will join a highly motivated group working to develop AquaAffirm™ and the project will involve working with collaborators in Mexico to field trial the sensor.
Qualifications: PhD in Electrochemistry or similar field
Closing date: 16th September 2016
