Age makes no difference. When a person turns age 65, is their membership revoked? Of course not. They are as much a part of the church as they al- ways were. Likewise with people under the age of 21. They are also a part of the church. Any congregation that puts down, or ignores any part of the church is not being faithful to its calling. Likewise with any fellowship that expects all people to have the same needs. We must be minis- tering to the spiritual needs of all people. Historically we have reached the middle age groups quite well. But in this day and age we need to pay special atten- tion to reaching our youth. Let's find ways of working with young people in the church, rather than doing things for them. Let's be open to new ideas that may bene- fit the whole church, while keep- ing in mind the unchanging truths of Christ. Let's all take the time MT. OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH 715 2 ND ST. What is that question mark doing there? Well, with the problems of the world, some may wonder if the youth of today will make it until to-morrow. In recent years, half of all Missouri Synod confirmands dropped away from any church rela-tionship by the time they graduated from High School. Challenged by the allure of the world around them, many young people find it hard to keep the promises they made on the day they were confirmed. Quite often the youth of today feel unneeded and unwanted by the church and thus drop out. Sometimes they find little meaning in worship. No wonder we are concerned that the youth of today will grow up to be the church of tomorrow. But this way of think-ing is actually part of the problem.

The Youth of today are not the church of tomorrow. They are the church of today!

YOUNG AT HEART

Pastor Possehl presented the Bible Study for our April meeting based on Luke 24, the Easter Story. He said it was one of his all-time favorite chapters. We took turns reading several of the verses. Verses 28 & 29 are the basis for the hymn, “Abide With Me”. He showed us a picture of Jesus when He broke bread with His disciples. Scripture was opened, eyes were opened, & minds & hearts were opened.

At our May meeting; we watched the video, “Happiness is Dirty Hands”, from This is the Life & presented by Don Hall of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.

A math teacher, who loved helping students, especially during this time of economic disparity, was instructing a group of boys on how to use cameras to take the best pictures. One boy had a camera that was of better quality & took better pictures. This was discovered while he & his teacher were developing the film. With a bit of kind nudging from the teacher, the boy admit-ted he had stolen the camera from a pawn shop because he didn’t have one & couldn’t afford to buy one. Together, they re-turned the camera. For this teacher, “Happiness is Dirty Hands”. “We have done to the least of these, my brothers, as you have done unto me”.

Our donation of $31.00 will be sent to Main Street Living. Olive & Elaine were Phase 10 winners.

What to do & where to go for our June & July outings. On June 15, we will do a driving tour of the Historic Homes in Watertown. Pamphlets of the route with descriptions of the homes will be

available. Meet at church at 10:00 . Lunch to be announced.

It’s planned to visit the Clark County Heritage Museum & Clas-sic Wheels Car Museum in Clark for our July outing. Supper at the Crocker Hills Bar & Grill will round out our day. Watch the bulletin for date & time.

Secretary, Elaine Lehna

Each family unit at Mt. Olive is assigned to a “Faith and Care” family. These groups give our members the opportunity to put their faith into action, and to care for one another. Family assignments and sign up sheets are posted on the bulletin board.

SUNDAY SERVICES: Everyone is encouraged to help with the regular tasks of the church on Sunday. These tasks include ushers, acolytes, readers, greeters, and also servers during fellowship time.

FELLOWSHIP: People have the opportunity to get to know each other better by working together, and planning together. Each Faith and Care family should gather early in the month before their turn is up, to organize and schedule.

This gathering could be a pot-luck just for that group, or some oth-er event that gives everyone a chance for worthwhile fellowship.

CARE: There is a wide variety of people in each group. There are some who will not be able to be directly involved in group activities, because of health reasons. Or perhaps they have responsibilities at home or work and are not able to get away. We hope the Faith and Care group will be in touch with everyone in the group at least once during the month they serve. If there is a special need that exists, per-haps someone in the group can help.

MORE: The groups may meet more often, for fellowship, for service outside the congregation, or for study and Christian growth. What a wonderful way for our people to draw together, grow in faith, and in loving care for one another.
