Columbus, Georgia is part of the Chattahoochee River Valley and is located on the Georgia Alabama state line. It is
the second largest city in Georgia and headquarters to many corporations including: Char-Broil, TSYS, Synovus,

LETTER TO CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP
Greetings! Enclosed you will find our chapter’s 2017-2018 Annual
Business Report. Our chapter of Phi Beta Lambda currently has 12
members, but has made a major mark on the Columbus community with
its various fundraisers and charity work ranging from March of Dimes to
Habitat for Humanity. This past year has been amazing; we have been
very ambitious in our chapter goals. We had the honor of becoming one
of twenty-two chapters in the nation to earn the honor of Diamond
Chapter. We earned Outstanding Chapter and were a top place holder in
the nation for our March of Dimes fundraising efforts. These are just a
few accomplishments, and we look forward to many more. Even though
this is my last year as a student member, I (as well as the Chapter Vice
President) will ALWAYS be here to serve you as a Professional Division
member. This chapter is a family; family is always there to help each other out. With that being said, here’s
to you and the amazing things yet to come with Columbus Technical College and Phi Beta Lambda!
ShaDarrius Jones
2017-2018 Chapter President
I am honored to be your chapter Vice-President for the 2017-2018
school year. Our chapter may be small, but we are mighty. We take great
pride in our work both individually and as a chapter. This group, this
family, will help you improve your creativity, teamwork, and
determination. Not only are we deeply involved at our school, but we
stay active both at the community and state level as well. For example,
we travel to Macon every December to donate toys to the Children’s
Hospital of Macon, despite being located in Columbus. Phi Beta
Lambda has something for everyone. You will find yourself growing
more than you ever imagined. As chapter Vice-President, I am always
here for you and I will do everything in my power to help you succeed.
It is my honor to welcome you and I look forward to an amazing year.
This is my last year as a student member as well, but as the president
stated, I will always be here when called upon. Phi Beta Lambda Forever!

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Phi Beta Lambda members Kyandra Smith and
Lacie Spencer attended the Bob Wright Symposium
on Business Empowerment. The Bob Wright
Symposium on Business Empowerment was
designed to expose members of the minority
community to successful entrepreneurs who are
industry trailblazers and respected thought-leaders
within their fields. In addition, it has become one of
the first events of its kind to take place in Columbus,
the home to several influential minority business
and community leaders. Each year, the conference
is moderated by Byron Pitts, renowned ABC News
Chief Correspondent and Nightline Co-Anchor, and
features several "Fireside Chats" (informal
conversations) with extraordinary business leaders
and executives. In these discussions, they share
invaluable business insight, knowledge and stories
of their personal & professional experience. In
addition, lunch and networking opportunities are
provided for all attendees during the day.

CAREER EXPLORATION & PREPARATION
2017 Columbus Let’s Grow STEAMx Convention
On November 17th, 2017 various Columbus Tech departments
participated in the expo reaching over 3,000 students. The
expo showcased over 80 companies and schools within the
state of Georgia that offered programs or jobs in the STEAM
field. Participants were encouraged to become involved with
the students and teachers for a great learning experience. Phi
Beta Lambda students also represented the college by serving
on the YOU-Niversity panel discussion. Chapter President
ShaDarrius Jones, Vice President Samuel Oliver, Jr., and
Afrika Sansbury discussed their journeys as college students
and answered questions on how to handle the college life. PBL
advisor Crystal Waye hosted a workshop discussing The
Ageless Journey of Servant Leadership.
BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS
Our chapter has been very fortunate to be able to partner
with local companies and non-profits in the Columbus
Area in order for our chapter activities, fund raisers, and
campus events to obtain success. For example, The Blue
Iguana Bar & Grill partners with us by discounting prices
for our chapter so that we can achieve maximum fund
raising for events such as the March of Dimes kickoff.
Those businesses and organizations include:
INFINITE BEESNESS

CHAPTER FUNDRAISING
The Columbus Technical College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda raised and
donated a total of $255.00 to the Georgia Phi Beta Lambda Foundation, Inc.
On Tuesday March 6, 2018, the Columbus Technical College
chapter of Phi Beta Lambda hosted its annual March of Dimes
Kickoff Fundraiser on the Columbus Tech Campus. The event
was joined by Shannon Pittman, the local March of Dimes
Development Manager as well as a Professional Division member
in our chapter. Lunches were provided by The Blue Iguana Bar &
Grill located in Columbus, Georgia.
All proceeds from the lunches
purchased went to the March of
Dimes. There was a raffle for prizes
with a $1.00 entry fee per ticket.
This was also the beginning of our
Blue Jeans for Babies campaign.
Faculty and staff of Columbus
Technical College paid either $5.00
per day or $20.00 for the four-day week. Participants receive a
“Jeans for Babies” sticker to show their contribution which
allows them to wear jeans to work on the days that were
purchased. This is a great fundraiser and a great way for the entire
campus to get involved with our fundraising efforts. This kick off
culminated with the March of Dimes walk in Downtown
Columbus, where our chapter was honored with a sign along the walking trail. Due to the hard
work of our chapter, and the participation of the community as well as the school, we were able to
raise a grand total amount of:
$1,688.00 AS OF APRIL 30, 2018

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS & VOULENTEER WORK
The Community Service Committee is chaired by VP Samuel Oliver, Jr. and Co-chaired by
Lacie Spencer with Advisor Waye as lead point of contact. Other members include Silvana Rucker,
Rachetau McCoy, ShaDarrius Jones, Afrika Sansbury, and Kyandra Smith. This year, the group
decided to become involved with different organizations such as the 4-H Club; the committee
sponsored a donation of $500 to one of the members. This donation sponsors a member for
participation in summer camp. The committee also participated and volunteered during the local
Alzheimer’s Walk. They cheered walkers along their route. They also donated toys to the Holly
Jolly Shoppe at the children’s hospital. This shop
is available to parents who have children
hospitalized in Macon, GA. Since parents are
unable to leave the hospitals for long periods of
time, the shop gives parents a way to Christmas
shop for their loved ones. The team donated over
100 toys. (see pictures on next page)
