Running Gait Analysis – Relating Assessment of the Runner to Podiatric Clinic PracticeMany of our patients run and see us for treatment of injuries relating to their sport. Running gait analysis is an important part of this assessment. This lecture focusses on the assessment of running gait from a podiatric perspective, using a common presenting symptom in our offices (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome) as the clinical example

PAUL HARRADINE

Chiropody, Podiatry and Third Party Insurance:  Moving ForwardJoan will provide an overview of the insurance landscape and then will focus in on matters of interests to chiropodists and podiatrists. She will provide you with information that will equip you to speak about insured services with your patients (and employers, who are integral in choosing the benefit plan) and then will close with providing a glimpse into the future. Biomechanics of the aging foot and ankleFoot pain is highly prevalent in older people and has a significant detrimental impact on mobility and quality of life. With advancing age, there is a general tendency for the foot to exhibit increased soft tissue stiffness, a decreased range of motion, decreased strength and a more pronated posture as well as to function in a more pronated position with reduced joint mobility and less efficient propulsion when walking. This presentation will provide an overview of age-related changes of the foot and ankle, and the role of plantar pressure analysis in the assessment and management of the older foot.HYLTON B. MENZ

Corn Cutting in the 21st CenturyPlantar corns are a cause of pain and activity restriction. Debridement may give temporary relief of symptoms but a surgical excision may be sought by patients looking for curative treatment. This lecture reviews the effectiveness of lesser metatarsal surgery, surgical excision and needling on plantar skin lesions. Of particular significance is the histopathological diagnosis of skin lesions which were clinically diagnosed as corns in a large case series of patients. The histopathological results suggest a major re-think is now required in our approach to this condition. TIM KILMARTIN

Foot Orthosos Prescription from a Unified PerspectiveFoot orthoses provision is often seen as clinically difficult due to many issues with the process, including a lack of validated assessment and outcome measures. The lecture relates to using a unifying foot function theory to the prescription of orthoses utilising current methods of assessment and outcomes available in most clinics

PAUL HARRADINE

Unified Theory and Clinical Gait Analysis The often conflicting theories on foot function can be difficult to apply in a clinical setting. This lecture introduces a method by which past podiatric foot function theory can be unified and used holistically in the practical assessment of gait and gait dysfunction

PAUL HARRADINE

Podiatry and CompoundingThe learning objectives for this session are:1. Participants will be able to discuss other options with regards to treating foot pain. a. Review of natural products b. Review of transdermal products c. Review of older medications with new uses

2. Alternative Treatments of Onychomycosis
