Membership
• Building Operator Program successfully trained 48 students for careers in commercial real estate.
• The NextGen Committee had a banner year hosting well attended events to promote the industry as a viable career for students, and to encourage development and retention of young professionals in the industry.
• The Awards Committee completed a revision of the 2018 Awards Program to better align with BOMA Canada and BOMA International requirements, making it easier for local winners to compete nationally and internationally.
• TransCanada signed up as the title sponsor for the 2018 BOMA Calgary Excellence Awards.

• BOMA Calgary’s Mentorship Program continues to help professionals develop their skills and forge relationships, with four pairs participating in the 2016/17 program.
• OneSource Canada Facility Services Inc renewed as a corporate sponsor for the fifth year.

Golf Classic WELCOMEBOMA BEST 3.0
& BOMAzing Race
The 2017 BOMA ENMAX Golf Classic was once again a huge success, raising over $13,590 for the BOMA Calgary Foundation’s charitable works.
Successfully launched BOMA BEST 3.0 locally, including new content and new software and began new initiatives
to better promote the program as the most effective tool for building management and sustainability
The Supporting Member Council successfully introduced an innovative new networking event, “BOMAzing Race”, in addition
to the existing networking opportunities throughout the year
• Johnson Controls, ProStar Cleaning & Restoration, Smith + Andersen, Western Electrical Management, Labbe Leech Interiors Ltd, Superior Janitorial Services, Chilsholm, Epic Roofing & Exteriors, Direct Energy and Wolseley subscribed as annual sponsors.
• Published the 2017 BOMA Building Guide with the theme of “Calgary in Transition”, highlighting the ways in which the industry can contribute to the economic diversification of Calgary.

• BOMA Calgary continued its multi-year effort with BOMA Edmonton to represent the industry’s interests as the Provincial Government revised the Municipal Government Act and developed City Charters
Advocacy
• Conducted a survey of candidates in the 2017 Municipal Election and developed a summary report to inform members of candidate’s positions on the issues that matter most to the commercial real estate industry
Successfully worked with industry partners and the City of Calgary to amend the Downtown Parking Strategy to allow for the option of additional underground parking
in new developments, with relevant bylaw amendments to be addressed in 2018
Representing the industry on key provincial stakeholder working groups
dedicated to taxation and assessment issues
• Continued the collaboration between BOMA Calgary and the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) to coordinate building management and security during emergency events
• BOMA Calgary and industry partners worked with the City in launching a three year pilot project that relaxes building permit requirements downtown and will make it easier and less costly to take on new tenants
• BOMA Calgary is representing the industry on the City of Calgary’s Climate Change Mitigation Strategy and is ensuring that any changes are not burdensome, and recognize the voluntary efforts that the industry has led for over a decade
