WVM History:

In 1981, Wabash Valley Manufacturing, Inc. was established by Jerry and Mike Shilling. During that time Wabash was primarily a manufacturer of agricul-tural products, such as feeders, pens and hog flooring. In the mid 1980’s Jerry and Mike were able to acquire a PLASTISOL coating operation in Illinois. This was the start of a whole new endeavor. Floors and equipment were manufac-tured in Silver Lake, IN and trucked to Illinois for coating. It was also during this time that the entrepreneurial spirit came out. The idea to manufacture picnic tables and benches and coat these items in this tough, maintenance free coating came to mind. So with that, Jerry and Mike moved the coating line from Illinois to Silver Lake and the start of Wabash Valley as we now know it, be-gan.

The next decade for Wabash Valley was what entrepreneurial dreams are made of. The idea of Plastisol coated furniture was a success, sales soared and demand greatly out paced supply. Growth to our facility could not hap-pen fast enough. By the end of 1998, our facility grew to 300,000 square feet with over 200 employees.

WVM Prior to 1996 WVM 1996—Present

2007, the year we introduced the Urbanscape brand to the Wabash family. Urbanscape is our completely powder coated line of site amenities. This brand utilizes the combination of aluminum, steel and our state of the art powder coating process to bring about affordable, dependable furniture, with unique looks to meet the needs of all settings.

In 2011 we once again broadened our offerings to include 100% recycled ma-terial in our Green Valley line. We continue to grow this line and it is a valuable addition to both Wabash Valley, our representatives and our customers.

7

Design and Quality:

Designers:

Wabash Valley enlisted the assistance of renowned designers and architects when developing our collection of Urbanscape pieces. Not only did they de-sign unique collections, but they also helped us redesign existing lines to create more ergonomically correct seating for our customers.

John Caldwell Design is a design office specializing in furniture, lighting and graphic design and has been located in the Los Angeles area for over 30 years. Our design approaches have varied widely to solve the needs of our design as-signments. We are currently working on designs which require highly tooled die cast and molded plastic components to fabricated wood and metal products. We have hundreds of products in the following markets: outdoor casual furni-ture, office furniture and office accessories, public and health care seating, ceiling fans, umbrellas and health industry products. Our products are being manufactured in the United States, Europe, China, Indonesia and Mexico.

Garofalo Archtects Doug Garofalo established an internationally renowned practice in Chicago that produced architectural work through buildings, projects, research and teaching. The work of GA has been widely recognized, through commissions, awards, publications and lectures for innovative and creative approaches to the art of building.

8

Plastisol Process: Wabash Valley’s Plastisol coating is the most proven, durable, maintenance-free coating on the market. We coat all Wabash Valley tops and seats in ¼” of Plastisol that is heat-fused, via salt curing (more eco-friendly than tradi-tional oven-curing) and permanently bonded to the steel. Plastisol is 30 times the thickness of standard powder-coatings and almost 10 times thicker than polyethylene coatings. Wabash Valley Plastisol is 100% PTHYLATE FREE.

9

Pros and Cons of Platisol:

Pros Insulator—1/4” coating protects metal from getting too hot or

too cold to the touch Vandal resistant—thick coating deters vandalism, making it dif-

ficult to cut. Virtually maintenance free—does not support mildew, UV pro-

tection from the sun and resistant to vandals are a few of the many maintenance-free attributes

Cons

Limited design—due to the dipping process, holes are needed for draining and certain designs are not conducive to this coating process.

Cannot be re-dipped – once plastisol coated, it cannot be re-coated. However we have found that some customers have had success painting over the plastisol with Krylon Fu-sion.

Salt tracks—Wabash utilizes a salt-cure process for our plastisol. This process is much more eco-friendly to the environment than an oven-cure process. But, what it does give is a ten-dency to leave salt track residue on some products. Pat-terns that have more solid surface area tend to have more noticeable tracks. This is 100% unavoidable and again can vary from pattern to pattern and product to product.

Salt Tracks:

10

Drips/Runs: The Plastisol coating process consists of heating the steel part up to 400 degrees °F and then dipping it into a tank of liquid plastisol that has a viscosity of 28,000 cps (literally as thick as molasses). The plastisol thickness is controlled by time and tem-perature, so in order to get the 187 mil thickness the part is left in the tank for about 90 seconds. As the part is re-moved, the drips appear. The part is then sent thru a salt curing process where the plastisol is cured. When the plastisol is cured, it has a hardness of 90 on the scale A durometer. Because of the hard-ness, the drip can be somewhat sharp. The drips are removed by scraping them with a shear form scraper. This is common practice in the plastisol coating industry.

11

Plastisol Versus Thermocoatings:

Competitors are trying to confuse the market with their material that resembles nothing more than paint.

1. Coating thickness is only 20 mils thick, the same thickness as 4 sheets of pa-per

2. Poor thermal protection versus Wabash. Coated metal placed at 240°F for30 minutes in an oven exhibits a surface temperature of 230 °F. Touching with your hand causes a burning sensation and you cannot hold the part in your hand.

3. Poor cold impact versus Wabash. A 24 LB impact at -40 °F results in cracking

4. Poor cut resistance versus Wabash

5. Lower melt properties than Wabash

6. Thin coating results in a hard feel 75 Shore D durometer

7. Coating easily cuts through to bare metal with a sharp object

8. Poor mar resistance. A simple scraping of the fingernail across the surfacetears at the material.

9. Poor abrasion resistance. Exposure to a wire wheel 3 seconds results in baremetal

Wabash coating 1. Truly a coating at 187 mils thick. The coating thickness is evident on the non-

decorative side by the large amount of material collected in these areas

2. Excellent thermal insulator never hot to the touch. Coated metal placed in-to a 240 °F oven for 30 minutes exhibits a surface temperature of 175 °F.Touching with your hand creates no uncomfortable sensation.

3. Color throughout the 187 mils of coating.

4. No cold weather cracking. A 24 lb impact at -40 °F results in no damage

5. Tough cut resistance

6. No deformation when exposed to heat

7. Thick coating gives a softer more comfortable feel with a 50 Shore D readingon the coating against the metal.

8. Chemical bond of the coating down to the metal makes it almost impossi-ble to strip the coating off to bare metal.

9. Abrasion resistance is better than competitive material. A 3 second expo-sure to a wire wheel does not expose bare metal.

12

Powder Coating Process: Wabash Valley’s powder coating system is second to none. It is one of only a few systems that has an in-line shot blaster. Our process involves 6 steps:

SHOT-BLAST TO WHITE METAL: First, all of our metal is cleaned to white metal. We strip it to its purest form using our state-of-the-art shot-blast system. This process removes impurities from the metal, especially at the weld joints. It’s more effective than traditional acid cleaning and also creates a more textured surface, allowing for better adhesion of the powder-coat.

FIVE-STAGE CHEMICAL PRE-TREATMENT: Next, the metal goes through a five-stage chemical pre-treatment cleaning process. It is etched, rinsed and cleaned to eliminate any residue, then it’s sealed – further promoting ad-hesion and encouraging corrosion prevention.

EPOXY COATING: After the pre-treatment, an epoxy powder coating is applied to provide the highest quality of corrosion control. It works as a prime coat to protect the metal from corrosion be-fore it receives its topcoat.

EPOXY COATING GEL-CURE: Next, the epoxy coating is cured to a gel, allowing the polyester topcoat to combine with the epoxy promoting better adhesion.

AAMA 2604-COMPLIANT POLYESTER TOPCOAT: A polyester topcoat is then applied that’s specially formulated to meet AAMA 2604 standards for fading, cracking, chalking, gloss retention, erosion resistance and chemi-cal resistance. It ensures that our products will maintain their beauty and durability for years to come.

FINAL CURE: Finally, the metal goes through a cure oven, which hardens the topcoat and completes the integrated bonding between the epoxy and AAMA 2604-compliant polyester topcoat.

14

Pros & Cons Of Powder Coating: Pros

Design and details—with a thinner coat of powder coating, we can show-case intricate detail and offer more designs and unique finishes.

Many different color possibilities—color options are almost endless. Ofcourse all colors outside of our standards would be considered custom.

Great Cosmetics—No drips, runs or salt tracks with powder coating.

Cons

Needs maintenance—because the powder coating is not as thick as plas-tisol, it is not as durable and would need periodic maintenance to make sure any nicks or scratches are touched up.

Is not an insulator—the thin coating does not insulate the metal

Process for Coating Game top Inserts: Part is run through the coating line and the base color is put on. Masking is then put on to make the checkerboard. The part is then run through a 2nd time adding the alternating color. All masking is removed from the panel now showing the 2 different

colored squares.

Umbrellas: Fabrics and Sunbrella Umbrellas: There is general misunderstanding in the con-sumer world regarding umbrellas with Sunbrella Fabrics. Many people refer to and or call them Sunbrella Umbrellas, however, Sunbrella is merely a fabric that is made by a manufacturer, called Glen Raven Mills, who makes many types of fabrics including, furniture fabrics, marine fabrics, awning fabrics, and specialty fabrics with graphics. Sunbrella fabrics are highly regarded as the premier out-door fabric in the world and are the recognized leader in the industry.

Fabric Information: There are many outdoor fabric options available for today’s umbrellas (in order indicating least quality to best quality) Plastic, Cotton, Vinyl, Polyester, Olefin and Solution Died Acrylics. The decision you make about a particular fabric will not only establish the durability and lasting attractiveness but will affect the cost as well. Consider how often you will be using the shade structure when deciding how much you would like to spend.

Here is additional information about the better fabric offerings.

Sunbrella:

100% 8 ounce (or more) solution-dyed acrylic fabric with locked-in colors.

Stands up to sun, wind, and rain without fading, retaining its original beauty for years.

Mildew does not grow on Sunbrella fabric as long as there is no food, dirt or other organic matter on the cover .

Sunbrella umbrella fabrics have been tested and proven to give up to 98% UV protection in shade applications and have been awarded the "Seal of Recom-mendation" by The Skin Cancer Foundation, an international organization dedi-cated to the prevention of skin cancer.

16

Olefin:

8 oz solution-dyed fabric.

High density, light weight woven fabric.

Holds bright colors well and resists fading

Durable, easy to clean, stain and abrasion resistant.

Suncrylic:

100% 7 oz solution-dyed acrylic fabric provides colorfastness.

Cleans with ease.

Gives extra UV protection.

Determining Size: Choosing the size needed is typically determined by its shade diameter of the particular unit. To choose the proper size unit, you must first de-termine the size of the table or area to be shaded. The general rule is it should be at about 5 feet larger than the area you want to shade. Here are some guidelines to sizing your shade area for tables:

7 foot shade diameter will cover up to a 36-inch café or bistro tables andtypically two – four chairs.

9 foot shade diameter will cover up to 48-inch round or square dining tableswith 4 -6 chairs, sometimes more depending on tilt options and varying de-grees of sun.

17

Umbrella Frames

The components of a frame make up the “bones” of your Market Umbrella. Here is helpful information about the pieces and parts:

The Crank: A crank is a device that is rotated to open the unit. The basic aluminum style has either a manual push open lift or a rope pulley system to lift the shade canopy open. Certain market umbrellas have the tilt-mechanism incorporated with the crank feature to make tilting the unit easy as well. Crank types are “NOT” recommended for use in commer-cial applications.

The Finial: The finial adds decorative functionality to your shade structure. It provides the finishing touch to the aesthetics of the top. It also serves the functional purpose of anchoring the top of the shade cover fabric to the frame.

The Pole: Most of our poles are assembled in two pieces for ease of ship-ping and storage. We do offer a commercial grade solid pole in our Lucaya and Faux Wood umbrellas, that adds considerable strength to help them better withstand wind pressure and the rigors of outdoor com-mercial applications around hotel & apartment pool areas, or restaurant applications.

The Ribs: The rib arms are the pieces of your frame that spread and sup-port the shade cover into the open position. More ribs equal more strength and stability. The Fiberglass ribs featured on our Wind Resistant types are outstanding at absorbing wind gusts without breaking and last four to five times longer than traditional wood or aluminum ribs.

UM130P - ALL ALUMINUM UMBRELLA

Urbanscape's all aluminum perforated metal umbrella is a unique offering to our umbrella line. The umbrella panels are constructed from 1/8" thick perforated aluminum for the utmost in strength and durability. All panels can then be coated in any of our AAMA 2604-05 compliant STANDARD powder-coat finishes. The umbrella frame and post extension are both constructed from 5 mm thick 1 1/2" diameter aluminum tubing. All ribs are 3/4" square extruded aluminum and all connecter pieces are aluminum castings, again giving you the strength and durability that you need. The umbrella frame is only available in an anodized aluminum color. This umbrella is not able to be opened and closed and has an overall space requirement of 92" and height of 91 1/2".

Below are special Mounting Instructions that MUST BE ADHERED TO:

UM130P UMBRELLAS MUST BE:

23

General Care and Maintenance: Regular inspection and maintenance of all parts and fasteners is necessary. Tighten all bolts and nuts. Inspect tops, seats, legs, braces and fasteners peri-odically for wear or vandalism. Replace broken or worn parts immediately or take equipment out of service until repairs are made. Use genuine Wabash Valley replacement parts.

Care and Maintenance of Plastisol Coatings: Repair -After routine inspection, if any deep cuts or gouges are present, Wa-bash Valley can supply an air dry formula to make repairs on site of our Plastisol Coating (contact our sales department). To apply air dry, clean area with mild detergent, allow to dry. Then apply air dry using a putty knife for smoothing of the surface. Allow to air dry or this process can be enhanced by drying with a hair dryer.

Cleaning– Use a mild non-chlorine hand, dishwashing, anti-bacterial, liquid soap with water. We recommend scrubbing with a brush (non-metallic bristles) and rinsing clean with plenty of fresh water to remove any residual soap. Use Armor-All® or similar quality vinyl protectant to enhance gloss.

Care and Maintenance of Powder Coatings on Steel: Low carbon steel furniture that has been powder coated holds up excellent to the outdoor elements. However, vandalism or misuse can compromise the in-tegrity of the coating. This will make periodic maintenance a must in order to maintain the quality look year after year. By following the steps on the next page, you will increase the longevity of your furniture:

24

Repairing Chips and Scuffs:

The furniture should be periodically inspected for any damage or chips to the coating. If any area is found to have the bare metal exposed, this will eventu-ally start to corrode and red rust will appear.

Scuff the area around the damage with fine grit sand paper or scotch brite. Then using a matching colored touch-up paint (available for purchase), the ar-ea can be made to look like new and corrosion or rust can be prevented.

Repairing Surface Red Rust:

When the powder coating is applied, it is done so using electrostatic. The part is given a positive charge and the powder is charged negatively. Allowing the part to attract the powder as it is being sprayed. Because of this, if there is a small gap anywhere on the part, the powder is attracted to the closest point which is on either side of the gap and it is difficult to get into the gap. We use some of the newest technology in spray powder in order to get the powder in-to the gap, but it is still difficult to get the thickness needed. On the next page is a picture of an example of such an area on the back of a bench that has been exposed to the elements for 3 years.

25

Repair– When red rust appears, it is a good idea to address the area as soon as possible before it has time to spread. By taking some sand paper or Scotch Brite, scuff up the area around the rust. Then using touch up paint , cover the affected area. For even added protection, a clear silicone can be applied after touch-up has been done.

26

Care and Maintenance of Umbrellas: For optimal performance, umbrellas must be secured into a properly weighted base. When opening the umbrella, we recommend pulling the ribs slightly away from the pole before turning the crank, pulling the cord, or pushing up the hub. If the crank or cord resists, the umbrella is likely in its locked position. Turn handle in clockwise direction until your umbrella is fully opened. Over cranking may cause the mechanism to fail. Insert pin in desired hole for pulley style models. If your umbrella has a Collar Tilt, simply turn the collar located above the crank housing and adjust the canopy to the desired position. Before closing, make sure that the tilted umbrella is brought back to the upright posi-tion by turning the collar in the reverse direction. To close a push up or pulley-style umbrella, push and hold the hub up to easily remove the pin. Guide the hub as it slides down the pole allowing ribs to fold completely. To close a crank style, turn the handle in the direction opposite of opening, as indicated by the arrows on the crank handle. Continue with a smooth motion until your umbrella is closed. Secure canopy with storage ties when not in use.

CLEANING: Solution-dyed acrylic fabric canopies feature a soil, stain and mil-dew resistant finish. Fabric may be cleaned while on the umbrella frame. Brush off any loose dirt. Dampen the fabric by hosing it down.

Prepare a solution of two capfuls of a mild, natural soap (not detergent) to one gallon of cold or lukewarm water (less than 100° F). Use a sponge or soft-bristle brush and allow the soap to soak in. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Air dry. Do not put fabric in a dryer. For spot cleaning of stains, two tablespoons of di-luted bleach in the soap mixture above may occasionally be used. Regular cleaning with a bleach solution is not recommended.

27

Testing Capabilities:

Sample plastisol coated pieces are exposed to 1500 hours of UV light to test protection against chalking or discoloration. Sample powder coated products are scribed and exposed to 3000 hours of a 5% salt solution to check for erosion or expansion of the scribed area.

Steps to follow when reporting a problem or issue to Customer Service:

1. Provide as much information as possible when reporting an issue, including:a. Sales Order or Purchase Order number, or ship to Zip Codeb. Name order was shipped toc. The model, package number and color of the product in question.d. Photos of the problem, if possible.

We must have some type of reference to your original order so we can help you in the best possible manner. The more information that you can provide, the more thorough we can be in our assistance. We cannot proceed with a warranty replacement unless we can reference the original order/product in-formation.

2. When receiving your shipment from the delivery or freight companya. Be sure to accurately count all boxes and skids to make sure your

count agrees with the count the freight company shows you should be receiving. If there is a discrepancy in the numbers, please make note of that on the Drivers Receipt and report it to Wabash Valley im-mediately.

b. Check all packages for outward signs of damage or mishandling. Please note any damage, no matter how minor, in detail on the Driv-ers Receipt and report it to Wabash Valley immediately.

c. If there is visible damage, take time to open that box and thoroughlyinspect that particular piece.

Return Materials Authorization (RMA) Process:

When reporting any kind of problem or issue to Customer Service, the Rep. or customer will be informed if we will or will not be requiring you to send back the product in question. Many times we will simply request photos instead of going through the expense of having products returned.

If for any reason Wabash Valley does request the return of the product in ques-tion, a Return Material Authorization (RMA) will be sent to the customer to use when sending back the product. No product can be returned without the RMA paperwork.

The following process should be followed for returning product on an RMA:

You will receive 2 copies of the Return Materials Authorization form. Bothcopies are exactly the same. One copy is to be inserted into one of the boxes that is being returned to Wabash Valley and the other copy can be kept by the customer for their files.

You will also receive a Bill of Lading form which will be already filled out andready to go. When the freight carrier comes to your location to pick up the product to be returned, you should hand them this Bill of Lading form. The driver will probably have you sign and date and he/she will also sign and date. BE SURE TO USE THIS FORM SO THAT THE RETURN SHIPPING CHARGES ARE REVERSED BACK TO WABASH VALLEY.

You will also receive a sheet of return address labels which lists the addressfor Wabash Valley Mfg. and also an RMA#. Please attach 1 label to each box which is being returned so it can be easily referenced upon receipt.

If the return package is small enough to be returned by UPS Ground, you willreceive a Prepaid UPS Return label either by mail, email, or with the replace-ment part if there is one. Please use this Prepaid label to return the product in question.

If any credit is to be issued, it will be done so upon receipt and inspection ofthe product when it is returned to Wabash Valley Mfg. If at that time, the product is deemed damaged or not re-salable, the credit due will either be adjusted or eliminated.

Please feel free to contact Customer Service and speak to a representativeif you have any questions concerning the Return Materials Authorization.

Inground versus Surface Mount versus Portable:

Many customers are confused by the mounting terminology—so it is very important to explain in detail what they are ordering or try to ask the right questions to make sure we suggest what they really want and/or need:

Inground—this type of framework is permanently mounted in ce-ment— very permanent, stable and hard to change. This mounting option is not suggested if concrete is already in place.

Surface Mount—this type of framework is semi-permanent—it is bolt-ed to a concrete surface using anchor bolts ( Wabash Valley does not provide any type of mounting hardware or suggestions due to the fact that the cement surface can vary from job to job as can any state or local requirements). All surface mount holes are 1/2” in diameter.

Portable—this type of framework is free-standing and can be easily moved. For any portable frames that utilize 1 5/8” or 2 3/8” tubing, we offer optional surface mount adapters that can be purchased.

Portable/Surface Mount—any model labeled as a portable/surface mount unit would indicate that the unit can be free-standing, how-ever it comes standard with surface mount adapters or has the 1/2” diameter holes on the frame that can be used for securing.

We do not recommend securing to any type of paver.

Advantages of Aluminum:

When constructing outdoor furniture, aluminum is one of the best structural ma-terials available due to its unequaled durability and exceptional strength-to-weight characteristics. The advantages of aluminum over steel are many when considering corrosion, not only from an appearance point of view, but from a structural soundness and low maintenance point of view.

Extrudability and machinability provides design flexibility

Aesthetically pleasing

Considerably lighter in weight than steel, reducing shipping and in-stallation costs

Corrosion resistant, much more durable in harsh environments anddoes not rust.

Considerably lower lifecycle costs than steel.

FAQ’S

Things that go wrong in installations to help avoid trouble?

Always read assembly instructions completely through before begin-ning.

Assemble tables upside down-placing a protective material under-neath as to not mar the finish.

Only finger tighten the bolts & screws until you have all parts level andeven, then you can finish tightening.

Always use the provided U-Brace when placing an umbrella in any ta-ble.

The U-Brace goes around the umbrella pole directly under the tabletop to secure the umbrella from rocking back and forth and being lift-ed out of the table.

PACKAGING PROCESS

What is foam packed— On 90% of our framework packages we use a process referred to as Foam Packaging which consists of a piece of poly film being placed between each part and then a liquid foam being sprayed into the box to keep the parts from rubbing together and scratching or scuffing.

What has waxed cardboard—framework items that are not placed in the foam are often packaged using waxed cardboard instead for added protection to the finish.

37

Skid Packaging—Almost all of our product is placed on a skid and shrink wrapped to that skid before leaving our facility. This process cuts down immensely on freight damage. We can also package to meet a cus-tomer’s specifications within reason.

What is assembled—Most of our products ship knocked down, with the exception of a few Urbanscape products. Receptacles ship in separate boxes, but will often include a liner and / or dome top in that same box if these accessories were ordered. Planters are also shipped with liners included.

All hardware is located in framework boxes.

Assembly Instructions—The Assembly Instructions are attached to the top of a box which is located on the top of the skid. They are normally placed beside the Packing Slip. The Assembly Instructions are packaged in a clear plastic envelope which measures 5-1/2” x 10”. There are 2 bright orange stickers attached to the front of the plastic envelope. One sticker reads “ASSEMBLY IN-STRUCTIONS ENCLOSED” and the other sticker reads “NOTICE” and is fol-lowed with instructions on what steps should be taken by the customer who is actually receiving the shipment. It states important directions for the customer.

Please instill in your customers how important it is for them to thoroughly inspect their shipment before the driver leaves and to note any damage or discrepancy on the Drivers Receipt.

38

Corner Protectors— At times, corner protectors are used to help strengthen a box of a heavier object such as a swing.

Memorial Plaques— The memorial plaques are screwed onto the bench back before shipping. There will be a protective plastic film covering the front of the plaque when it is shipped. This film must be removed before the customer takes plaque to be engraved.

After being received, the plaque can be taken out of the bench to be engraved and then screwed back into the bench once the engraving has been completed.
