Assalamualaikum Warah- matullahi Wabarakatuh! It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of the second issue of Azan. The years 2016-2017 were quite chal- lenging for the community, in general and the Islamic Soci- ety of Darwin, in particular. Alhamdulil-lah with your support and unified work of the all executive committee members we went through the turmoil and mitigated the challenges successfully. In the process the society has learnt many valuable lessons. ISD has worked hard for making sure to bring clarify to the constitutional obligations and transferred our mutual re- sponsibilities into clear poli- cies and step by step pro- cesses. ISD last year brought numerous changes within our system. All members can now see and access the transac- tional transparency and de- cision making procedures. In fact, we welcome community members to attend our exec- utive committee meetings and help ISD in decision making processes. In conclusion, I would humbly request you help us in our volunteering work for contin- ued future successes. Let, all of us together, pray that Allah help us maintain- ing the exemplary unity of Darwin Muslim Community. -Mohammed Raziuddin (President ISD) President’s Letter Society News 2016-2017 EID prayers were held at the Marrara Indoor Stadi- um on 25th June (Fitr) and 01st Sep (Adha) 2017, resp. This was the second successful organization of EID salahs outside the Mosque and Islamic Com- munity hall grounds. Eid-ul -Fiter salah was also at- tended by Hon. Deputy Chief Minister Mrs. Nicole Manison. Islamic Society of Darwin organized community Ifitars for the whole dura- tion of Ramdhan month. This was first time in the history of Darwin that Ifitars were organized for each day of month. ISD would specially thank Br Mizan for taking care of organization and arrang- ing the sponsors for the expanses. ISD’s events on Harmony Day2017 were conducted by the youth volunteers of ISD. Although, it was the first day of Ramadhan, the youth worked ex- tremely hard to organize the event. Brs. Tahir Abor, Fahad Khan, Asim Razi, Adil Razi, and Sr. Shami- ena Ibrahim, Sr. Fatima are some of the youth who, in particular, need be congratulated to make this a very successful event. ISD would also like to thank MCNT to provide support and generous help. In 2016, ISD was granted funding of $14,700 by the central government for Landscaping under the Stronger Communities Programme. We like to thank our previous MP Natasha Griggs for the kind support for our ap- plication to this funding. We would also like to pay our gratitude to some hard working silent com- munity volunteers such as Br Arshad , Br Anwar , Br Modu and Br Kabir Alam to make sure our premises look beautiful and well maintained. To ensure continued qur’anic services to the community and Islamic teaching, society has successfully arranged to hire services of Ustad Shamsul Bahri from Indone-sia. This was a long time aim of ISD to have the services of a Quran teacher for our children.

Br. Azmul, our newest ex-ecutive committee member used his technology expertise and has developed ISD Web portal which will give ISD members the access to meet-ings minutes, membership forms, ISD constitution, other related documents events, calendar etc.. Youth Corner (ISD Youth Club) and he also help Implement new systems with advance technologies to manage the book keeping and financial auditing.

ISD is soon starting the New Community Gym for all its community members. The gym will have the proper membership and will run on defined sched-ule. PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY

Delving into the fastest growing faith in the world, the Islamic faith with Territo-rian, Sr. Imarah Ansar gave a beautiful introduction to Islam and answered some tough questions on ABC ra-dio-Darwin such as: one point seven billion people follow Islam, what is it about this faith that is so interest-ing, why is it so popular, and why do women wear a hijab anyway?

People with disability mosque tour   ISD organised Iftar and

dinner for the people with disability during the month of Ramadhan. It was very well received and attend-ed by many people.

Grand Iftar with wider com-munity   For the first time ISD hosted

a grand Iftar and dinner for the wider Darwin com-munity, with special invita-tions given to school teach-ers and neighbours. On behalf of Islamic community the President of ISD, re-quested all attendees to share their experience with other communities, classes, students and children so that our children, our future generation could learn to live in harmony.

Interstate Speakers for Open Day  

On 1st July 2017 we organised Open day in which we invited many celebrated guests . Sheikh Hassan Elsetohy- CEO of Muslim Aid Aus-tralia delivered a talk in the presence of wider community members, government officials and Chief Minister and others.

Community Awareness Night

ISD organised four Community Awareness Nights during their term. The last one, 4th com-munity awareness night was on 19th August 2017.

Madarsah Management have successfully imple-mented MYOB financial system to maintain ISD/Madarsah accounts, pay-roll, pay slips, invoices, etc.

This year Madarsah par-ents have been issued invoices through MYOB financial system for their financial contribution to the Madarsah. The in-voice contains details and breakdown of their con-tribution to ISD Weekend Madarsah.

On 27th Jan 2017 & 1 1 t h M a r 2 0 1 7 Madasah conducted two public speaking work-shops, “SPEAK” run by Mr Salman Sarmast.

On 16th April 2017, our senior Madarsah teacher Dr. Nasreena Waheed conduct-ed a workshop titled “Understanding Children Better”. Through this interac-tive workshop we explored the common behavioral is-sues faced by parents and educators of young children, and how these can be ad-dressed in a positive way.

Madarsah started a series of Quran Tajweed seminars with our Quran Teacher Ustad Shamsul Bahri . Through a series of seminars we covered introduction to Quran Tajweed and the awareness of correct Ma-khraj (pronunciation) when reading the Quran.

On 12th May 2017 Madarsah management had

a meeting between ISD Execu-tive Committee, Madarsah staff and volunteers.

On 20th May 2017 Family Fun Day was conducted and many fun activities for parents and children were organized.

On 9th Sep 2017, the week-end after Eid Al-Adha, the Madarsah staff, students & volunteers had a great educa-tional and entertaining pro-gram on our Eid gathering night. The performances con-sisted of two Nasheeds & three skits performed by our Madarsah students

Makassan College ran a Robotic Workshop for chil-dren. The Workshop was organized by the collabo-ration of Mr Nathan Ting (of Cell Engineering) and Br Viqar Ali Khan and Br Feroz Khan Ibrahim.

Makassan College is cur-rently running Academic Assistance Program for community children. College is keen to include and or-ganize it for disadvan-taged and weaker commu-nity children. Any volunteers who can help children im-prove their life and aca-

One of  the  founding member of  ISD and Mosque—Br Hayat Qureshi shared some old and treasured pictures of  our mosque and history of its building, during a recent visit by Dr Khalid Ali Khan, at his Melbourne residence. Br Qureshi has been one of the founding members who played a key role  in building up of a successful  ISD and construc on of Darwin Mosque,  that  it  is  today—a central place  for Muslims of Darwin  that  they can deservingly feel proud of .
