DrKevinHausslergraduatedfromTheOhioStateUniversity,CollegeofVeterinaryMedicinein1988andcompletedasmallanimalinternshipinSacramento,CA.Tofurtherhistrainingintheconservativemanagementofspinal-relateddisorders,hepursuedhumantrainingatPalmerCollegeofChiropractic-Westandcompletedaveterinarychiropracticcertificationprogramin1993.HeattendedtheUniversityofCalifornia-DavistoattainaPhDfocusingonspinalpathologyandpelvicbiomechanicsinThoroughbredracehorses.Post-doctoratetraininginvolvedevaluationofin-vivospinalkinematicsinhorsesatCornellUniversity.WhileatCornell,HedirectedthenewlyformedIntegrativeMedicineServicewhichprovidedchiropractic,acupunctureandphysicaltherapyservicestobothsmallandlargeanimals.Currently,heisanAssociateProfessorattheOrthopaedicResearchCenteratColoradoStateUniversityandisinvolvedinteaching,clinicalduties,andresearchintotheobjectiveassessmentofmusculoskeletalpain,spinaldysfunctionandtheapplicationofphysicaltherapyandrehabilitation.HeisacharterdiplomateoftheAmericanCollegeofVeterinarySportsMedicineandRehabilitationandiscurrentlyacourseinstructorfortheEquineRehabilitationCertificationcourseco-brandedbytheUniversityofTennesseeandColoradoStateUniversity.

Centaur Biomechanics, founded by Russell Guire (BSc Hons), is a company whichspecialisesinhorseandriderbiomechanics.Withtheuseofstateofthearttechnology,namely2Dmotioncapture(Quintic),inertialsensors(EquiGait),reingauges(centaur)andsmartphonetechnology,CentaurBiomechanicscanobjectivelylookathorseandriderinteraction.Russellhascompletedmanyresearchprojectsparticularlylookingatthe influence different surfaces have on limb kinematics, the effect studs have onturningkinematicsand,morerecently,Russell’sresearchhasextensivelyfocusedontheeffectthatgirths,bridlesandsaddleshaveonthelocomotionofthehorse.Russell iscurrentlystudyingforhisPhDattheRoyalVeterinaryCollegewithintheinternationallyrenownedstructureandmotion lab.He is focusingonhorseandrider interaction, inparticular theeffect that the saddle and riderhaveonequine spinal kinematics andlocomotion. Since 2006 Russell has worked with the British Equestrian Federation’sWorld Class Programme in providing performance analysis to all disciplines, he hasfeaturedinmanyequestrianarticlesandbooksandheregularlyspeaksatinternationalconferencesthroughouttheworld.

ZoeFreedmanisachiropractorworkinginprivatepracticeinthenorth-eastofEngland.AftergraduatingfromtheAngloEuropeanCollegeofChiropractic(AECC)in2005Zoewent on to complete a PGCert in Chiropractic Practice, MSc in PaediatricMusculoskeletal Health and then undertook postgraduate training in animalchiropractic.Practicelifeissplitevenlybetweenhumansandanimals.Aswellasworkingfrom her own practice, Zoe runs a small animal musculoskeletal management andrehabilitation clinic with a local veterinarian. Zoe has attended the advancedcertificationprogrammeinanimalchiropracticatOptionsforAnimals,Kansas,USAandiscurrentlyontheirteachingfaculty.SheisafellowoftheRoyalCollegeofChiropractorsand current chair of the British Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Zoe has beeninstrumentalinimprovingtheanimalchiropractictrainingoptionsavailableintheUK.

HOW TO REACH GRANDMEDITARRANEOHOTEL

By Car:

take the Firenze Sud exit from the A1 autostrada and go straight until you reach the only stop

light. Turn left there and then continue for some 2 km along the Lungarno Colombo. Once you reach the Lungarno del Tempio, you will find the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo to your right, not far from the last stop light at the juncture with Viale Amendola. There is a private garage next to the hotel where you can park for a fee. (address: Lungarno del Tempio 44)

By Train: take bus number 14 (ticket €1.20) from the Santa Maria Novella station and get off at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo stop on Via Arnolfo (behind the hotel). You can also walk to the hotel from the Santa Maria Novella station in about 25 minutes and from the Campo Marte station in about 15. There is also a bus from the latter station on via Mazzini: Bus 13 (NOT 13A), get off at the Pecori Giraldi station.

By Plane: You can get to the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo from Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci International Airport using the shuttle service which takes you to Piazza della Stazione (the train station) and then a taxi or Bus 14, or you can take a taxi directly from the airport for about € 25.
