“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him,
but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened…Therefore God
gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading
of their bodies with one another.” (Romans 1:21, 24)
This week the Washington State Supreme Court ruled 9-0 against a florist named
Barronelle Stutzman who refused to do a floral arrangement for a “gay wedding.” (I
put that in quotes because it is an oxymoron since God clearly declares that marriage
is between a man and a woman.) Embedded within the majority opinion is this
immoral and illogical statement declaring Stutzman’s position as untenable: "As
Stutzman acknowledged at deposition, providing flowers for a wedding between
Muslims would not necessarily constitute an endorsement of Islam, nor would
providing flowers for an atheist couple endorse atheism."
The statement is immoral because it forces Barronelle to act against her conscience
and because it reinforces the government’s ungodly redefinition of marriage. It is
illogical because Christianity does not declare that marriage is only for Christians. A
heterosexual Muslim couple is not violating God’s will by marrying, nor is a
heterosexual atheist couple violating God’s will by marrying. But two men “marrying”
is a violation of God’s will. Barronelle is not judging who anyone claims to be, but she
refuses to feel as if she is condoning behavior she knows is outside God’s plan for
mankind.
How can our leaders have become so blind? How is it that someone who blocks access
to an abortion clinic can be forcibly removed and charged with trespassing for trying to
save an unborn baby’s life, but protesters can burn and smash private property and
police cars – as we have seen recently in our society – and not be touched by the law
but in fact be lauded by some elected officials as brave dissenters? For an answer, read
the passage above. Sin begets sin. Immorality begets immorality. God lets mankind
suffer the consequences of its immorality by handing it over to its own sinful desires.
Barronelle Stutzman’s actions are a matter of conscience. Christians may confront such
circumstances in different ways depending on their conscience. What is disturbing is
that the government now feels the need to compel Christians to act against
conscience. Pray God causes us to repent as a nation, and pray he gives us continued
opportunities to point to the only hope mankind has – Jesus Christ crucified for
sinners.
And pray hard because this was Washington state governor Jay Inslee’s response to
the ruling: "By ruling that intolerance based on sexual orientation is unlawful, the
Court affirmed that Washington state will remain a place where no one can be
discriminated against because of who they love."
I guess that’s true, Governor. Unless you love God.

CHURCH LIBRARY
This month there is a new library resource to encourage you to share Jesus with a
family member. What They Need to Hear: Sharing Christ with Family and Friends is
by Klemet Preus. When he learned that his father-in-law was going to die but was
not spiritually prepared to die, Preus resolved to write letters about faith in Christ.
This book is a compilation of those letters which were written over eighteen
months. His Christian witness to his father-in-law will encourage those who need
to speak up (or write) to a family member who needs Jesus. You can sign out this
book from our church library by looking for number: FL 53
SUNDAY SCHOOL
The Sunday School children will be singing during the 10:30 service on March 19th. The students will go
together as a class from the school to the church after lessons that morning.
FAMILY BIBLE STUDY
Join us in March for our "March Family Bible Study Challenge." You will receive motivation, resources, and
practical exercises for carrying out Bible Study in your home with your family. If you’d like to join the
participants and be added to the March email list for the challenge send a request to:
[email protected]. Our gatherings take place at the school during each Sunday School session.
Come meet other parents at Trinity and grow with us each week! The whole family is welcome, including
children too young for Sunday School. New? No problem. Each study is self-contained and you can jump in
at any session. Babysitting provided if your child is too young for Sunday School. You can help us plan the
babysitting by registering at trinityneenah.net/family

OUTREACH UPDATES FROM PASTOR BARTHEL
Let part of your Lent this year include the resolve to speak to a family member or someone close to you
about the importance of faith in Christ. You know who that person is. God placed them on your path. We
are all going to return to dust and will face God’s judgment. We all need Jesus right now. “I tell you, now is
the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor 6:2) Use now, this very day, to carry out your
resolve to speak of Jesus to that person. He is our salvation today and always.
Starting Point Classes will begin with a new group in April. Everyone is welcome. Register for the Spring
group today at trinityneenah.net/starting-point.
Our school ministry is holding an open house on March 7th. Please grab one of the flyers at church or
school to extend the invitation to someone. Share the invite on social media too by connecting with our
school’s Facebook page event.
Our congregation will be sending out invitational mailers for our school ministry to 1500 homes in Neenah –
both young families and new to area families. Pray that God will bless our efforts to connect with our
community and bring the gospel to many homes through our school ministry.
The NEW Group heads out together from Trinity on March 4th and from Martin Luther on April 8th. (see
previous newsletter article for details) Anyone can join in. Contact me if you are interested.
Personal gospel invite opportunity: Ash Wednesday is March 1. Trinity will
have special midweek services at 10am and 6pm that day. If you know
someone who isn’t connected to a local church home invite them to yours
for this service. There are extra trifolds with service times in the narthex.
Help yourself. Then remember to keep encouraging and follow up with an
invitation to join us for services leading up to holy week and Easter.
Just another reminder: your pastors are expecting to see unchurched guests join us for worship. Thank you
for bringing in your friends to join you for worship! We want our guests to know they can participate during
services or simply sit-in and observe our worship as they feel comfortable. All are welcome to join any
worship service.
It’s a privilege to serve at Trinity with the call to focus on outreach and family ministry. I’m always glad to
talk in person and you’re invited to connect with me on social media. “Now is the time of God’s favor.” Use
this time to bring others to see it and experience it in their lives now and for eternity.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Earn cash for our school by clipping 10¢ Box Tops from hundreds of products and submitting them to Trinity Lutheran
School. It's easy to see what a difference we can all make when we clip. Box Tops for Education has helped schools
earn over $600 million since the program started in 1996, including more than $85 million last school year alone. That
means that every year, millions of people are clipping those little Box Tops, putting them in plastic baggies and
handing them in to their schools. More than 80,000 schools right now are using Box Tops earnings to fund much-
needed supplies and equipment.
So, consider this: What if we did just a little bit more? What if we all asked one friend to clip 10 Box Tops? What if we
clipped 10 more Box Tops this year ourselves? Because every little bit adds up for our students. Together we can
make a real difference in their education. But none of it could happen without you. Please turn your Box Tops in to
the school office or place them in the box at church (located next to the pastors’ office). Thank you for your continued
support of Trinity Lutheran School!
KWIK TRIP MILK MOOLA PROGRAM
Milk Moola is a program whereby we receive cash for every cap and bag top we
collect from Kwik Trip products such as milk, orange juice, bottled water and Kwik
Trip’s line of sports drinks and fruit drinks. We will receive 5¢ for each cap and bag
top we collect and turn in. And unlike other programs, Milk Moola has no cash limits,
so the potential for this program is unlimited. But we need your help to make it
successful!
The biggest thing you can do to help is to purchase those Kwik Trip products and save
the caps and encourage friends, co-workers, and family members to do the same. Start saving them at home, at
work, anywhere you enjoy Kwik Trip beverages. Simply drop-off your caps and bag tops to the school office or to the
box located outside the pastors' office at church anytime and our school can start benefiting from the cash right
away.
If you would like to learn more about Milk Moola, you can visit the Milk Moola website at www.milkmoola.com.
There you will find the latest information about the program, frequently asked questions and the official rules and
guidelines for Milk Moola.
So the next time you are in Kwik Trip and reach for something to drink, don't forget to save those caps!
LADIES BIBLE STUDY
Ladies Bible Study meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room at
church. We will soon begin a new study called Finding I AM written by Lysa TerKeurst. You are invited to join us and
please bring along a friend so they too may hear the message of God's saving grace.
Finding I AM - What is the deep cry of your heart? The ache in your soul that keeps you up at night? The prayer you
keep repeating? Jesus not only cares about this deep, spiritual wrestling, but He also wants to step in and see you
through it.
Join Lysa TerKeurst on the streets of Israel to explore the seven I AM statements of Jesus found in the Gospel of John.
Through this interactive, in-depth study we will be trading feelings of emptiness and depletion for the fullness of
knowing who Jesus is like never before.
