ABOUT ANSThe American Nuclear Society is a not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization, and the premier society for nuclear professionals. Established in 1954 at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C., ANS was created by a group of individuals who recognized the need to unify professional activities within the various fields of nuclear science and technology. ANS has since developed a diverse membership composed of approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, and educators representing more than 1,600 corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies.

ANS provides extensive opportunities for every professional group in the nuclear field to interact effectively via 22 divisions and technical groups, local sections, and student sections.

The Society serves as an advocate for individuals and organizations having a stake in nuclear science and technology. ANS produces position papers covering current nuclear-related topics, and our Washington, D.C. office acts as a technical resource to senior policy and decision makers. Through the Honors and Awards Program, ANS recognizes members for outstanding efforts and accomplishments in their fields.
