SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI STATEEntering Sunday’s match with an 8-4-3 overall record, including a 2-4-2 mark in SEC action, Mississippi State is

coming off of a 3-0 victory over Georgia Thursday night that snapped a three-match losing streak. The Bulldogs

have been a difficult side to sort out when playing at home, posting a 6-1-2 record at the MSU Soccer Field.

Mississippi State is paced by forwards MaKayla Waldner and Brooke McKee, who lead the Bulldogs with eight and

seven goals, respectively. McKee has also dished out three assists, one behind Mallory Eubanks for the team lead.

Catalina Perez has been a stallwort in goal, recording a 1.01 goals against average with five shutouts on the year.

SERIES HISTORY - MISSISSIPPI STATEOle Miss has had a good bit of success when playing its in-state rivals in the Magnolia Cup, boasting a 13-6-3

lead in the all-time series. The series has been all Rebels over the last 10 meetings, with Ole Miss coming out

on top in eight of those 10 matchups. The series has been pretty even when playing in Starkville, with the

Rebels owning a slight 5-4-1 lead on the road.

LAST MEETING - MISSISSIPPI STATEOxford, Miss. (Sept. 22, 2016) - For the last three years

the Magnolia Cup trophy has found a home in Oxford, and

following Thursday night’s rivalry showdown, it will remain

there as the Rebels shutout the Bulldogs, 3-0.

In a series that’s heavily favored the Rebels in terms of

scoring the last two meetings (6-1), Liza Harbin kept that

momentum going thanks to a score in the fifth minute. Se-

nior Gretchen Harknett fired in an attempt from the far side

when the ball got deflected at the keeper, before it landed

at the feet of Harbin, who punched in the loose ball scoring

the third goal of her career.

Following the halftime break, CeCe Kizer found her groove in a matter of minutes. In the 56th, Harknett passed

one in from the far side, before Kizer controlled it with her left foot and fired it in from 10 yards out to the right

of the keeper putting the Rebels up, 2-0.

Just eight minutes later, she found her stride again, this time off a ball deflected in the box when she kicked it

left of the keeper for the final score of the night.

REBELS MOVE TO NO. 25 IN RPI RANKINGSRanked No. 18 the week prior, Ole Miss dropped a few spots to No. 25 in the most recent NCAA RPI rankings. The

Rebels have the seventh highest RPI among SEC teams. Both of the Rebels’ remaining opponents are ranked in

the top-50 (Mississippi State, 48; Alabama, 24).

ACADEMIC ACCOLADESThere’s a reason Ole Miss soccer is a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the

seventh-straight season. It’s no coincidence that year in and year out, the Rebels establish themselves as one of

the top GPAs on campus and within the SEC. The Rebels were recently announced as a 2017-18 recipient of the

prestigious academic laurel after leading the conference with a 3.62 GPA. It marked the 13th time in school his-

tory for Ole Miss to receive the honor. The award is only a fraction of the academic success under the direction of

head coach Matthew Mott, as his teams have consistently produced individual and team accomplishments in the

classroom. Since his arrival to campus in 2010, the Rebels have had 12 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections,

four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, one NSCAA Scholar All-American, one SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and

one NSCAA All-Region honoree.

SPREADING THE WEALTHOle Miss is near the top of the NCAA in nearly every offensive category, including goals (53 - 3rd), points (147-

3rd), while also ranking third nationally in scoring offense (3.31) and fourth in points per game (9.19). The Rebels

are 11th nationally in shots per game (18.31), and 17th in SOG per game (8.31). While two players -- freshman

Channing Foster and junior CeCe Kizer -- have contributed 27 of those, it hasn’t stopped many other Rebels from

playing a factor in the scoring column thus far. 18 different players have either scored or carded an assist thus far,

with 16 different players scoring and 13 different Rebels dishing out helpers. To go along with Foster and Kizer’s

27 combined goals, eight other Rebels (Bella Fiorenzo, Grace Waugh, Julia Phillips, Mary Kate Smith, Gabby

Little, Molly Martin, Alley Houghton, Grace Johnson) all have multiple goals this season.

12 REBELS SCORE FOR FIRST TIME IN CAREERSWith 16 different players scoring this season, it’s brought a lot of opportunity for newcomers and veterans alike

to find the net. 12 different Rebels -- including nine newcomers -- have all scored the first goals of their careers

through 16 games. Overall, 31 of the 53 goals scored thus far have come off the foot of someone who carded the

first of their careers, led by freshman Channing Foster’s 12, which ranks eighth in the NCAA. More than half of

the goals scored have come from newcomers to the team (27-of-53).

DON’T DOUBT THE DEFENSEWhile the obvious highlight this season has been the goal scoring, the Rebel backline and defense hasn’t gone un-

noticed, either. Through 16 games, the Rebels have allowed only 15 goals. The Rebels have already doubled their

shutouts total from last season with eight. Junior goalkeeper Marnie Merritt and sophomore Claire Williams have

been solid in goal, making 43 combined stops thus far. With their (then) seventh shutout of the season in the win

over Memphis (Sept. 10), the Rebels broke the school record for the longest time holding opponents scoreless at

568 minutes (continued into the Florida game), snapping the 2012 record of 483 minutes.

GRACE JOHNSON NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM OF WEEKA freshman who’s started in every game thus far, Grace Johnson was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team

of the Week following week four after helping the Rebels to two more clean sheets. Her efforts on the backline

(804 minutes) have helped Ole Miss to seven shutouts in 10 contests.

THREE REBS AMONGST TOP PLAYERS NATIONALLY VIA TOP DRAWER SOCCERHaving one of the most prolific seasons in the country, junior forward CeCe Kizer is ranked 31st overall in Top

Drawer Soccer’s Top-100 Player Rankings. Kizer is the fourth-highest ranked player in the SEC and is one of 12

players from the league to appear on the list. Meanwhile, newcomers Channing Foster and Grace Johnson come

in at No. 14 and No. 28, respectively, on TDS’s rankings of the top-100 freshmen. Foster and Johnson rank third

and fifth in the SEC, while 16 players from the league were selected in the top-100.

KIZER ASCENDING THE RECORD BOOKSHaving one of the more prolific seasons in Ole Miss history, CeCe Kizer has quickly made her way up the Rebel

record books. Kizer’s 15 goals on the season is tied for the fifth most in a season in program history, while her 37

points is good for sixth. For her career, Kizer ranks fifth all-time with 34 goals in a Rebel kit, while also coming in

at No. 5 in points with 82 in her three seasons in Oxford. With two games remaining in the regular season of her

junior season, time will tell just how high Kizer can climb.

OLE MISS HOUSES FLORIDA STATE SOCCER DURING HURRICANE IRMAOle Miss was on the road for last Friday’s match in Memphis when Florida State head coach Mike Krikorian called

in a time of need. At that point, Hurricane Irma was making its way up the Florida straits, forcing the closing of

schools in the Sunshine State. The Seminoles needed somewhere to go for the duration of the event, so Ole Miss

soccer opened its doors to FSU. Florida State had a game scheduled in Tallahassee on Tuesday against Troy,

but that was later rescheduled to be played in Troy on Wednesday. When Irma passed, the Seminoles headed for

Birmingham on Monday, before ultimately returning home.

FOSTER MAKES HISTORY IN WIN OVER SOUTHERN MISSFreshman Channing Foster has been nothing short of impressive thus far, tied for the team lead in goals, which

puts her tied for fourth nationally. She becomes only the fourth player in school history to record two hat tricks in

the same season (Brittney Potts - 2004, Sarah Wong - 1998, Sarah Comeaux - 1996). She’s also only the seventh

player to record a hat trick in her freshman season, and the first freshman with a hat trick since Danielle Johnson

recorded one in September of 2006.

HURRICANE HARVEY FORCES CANCELLATION OF GAME AT LOUISIANAOle Miss was scheduled to play at Louisiana in week two, but due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey, the match

was cancelled. Instead, the Rebels hosted Lamar to make up for the hole in the schedule. A two hour, 15 minute

weather delay affected the Sunday afternoon tilt, but the Rebels came out on top, 3-0, thanks to goals from Grace

Waugh, Channing Foster and Molly Martin. The game against Louisiana will not be made up.

OFFENSE EXPLODES IN OPENING WEEKENDAll spring and during the preseason, head coach Matt Mott described his team as fast with the ability to make a lot

happen on offense. That showed in opening weekend as the Rebels secured a pair of 8-0 victories over Alabama

State and Northwestern State. Ole Miss had a 6-0 lead at halftime in the season opener, and led the Lady Demons

5-0 after the opening period. It marked just the second time in school history the Rebels scored at least eight

goals in back-to-back contests. Back in 1996, Ole Miss posted a 13-2 victory over Northwestern State, before

closing that season two days later with a 10-0 defeat over Middle Tennessee.

KIZER NAMED SEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK, NCAA TOP PERFORMERFor her efforts in opening weekend, CeCe Kizer picked up SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors, as well as being named NCAA Soccer’s Top Performer of the Week. The nation’s leader in goals (5) and points (11) at the time, Kizer got support from Rebel Nation in a Twitter poll on Tuesday that named her National Player of the Week.

KIZER, MERRITT, HARBIN NAMED TO SEC PRESEASON WATCH LISTThe SEC Preseason Watch list, which replaced the former Preseason All-SEC Team, featured three Rebels in junior CeCe

Kizer, redshirt junior Marnie Merritt, and senior Liza Harbin. Kizer, a repeat selection on the list, is poised for a big year in

2017 after scorng five goals and leading the team with six assists a season ago. Merritt, who enters year three on the pitch,

has her name scattered throughout the career record books already. Harbin, a three-year starter, returns on the backline to

help anchor the defense.

FIORENZO UNANIMOUS CHOICE FOR TEAM CAPTAINFrom two knee surgeries to now heading into her senior campaign, midfielder Bella Fiorenzo has experienced quite the roll-

ercoaster in her career. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native went from playing in only a few games in 2014, to now being a

unanimous choice for team captain by her peers. The senior tied for the third-leading scorer on the club last year with three

goals, and is poised for a big fall where she’ll lead Ole Miss both on the field and off.

REBELS PICKED NINTH IN PRESEASON COACHES’ POLLComing off a nine win season, Ole Miss was picked ninth in the SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll ahead of the 2017 sea-

son. Florida was tabbed as the favorite to win the title, while Texas A&M and South Carolina rounded out the top three.

OLE MISS ON NATIONAL TVWith two national TV games in the books, Ole Miss will be featured on national TV once more this fall. The Rebels opened

SEC play at Florida (Sept. 14), falling 1-0, before most recently topping Arkansas, 1-0, on the road on SEC Network (Sept.

24). The final TV game of the regular season comes in Starkville on Sunday, Oct. 22, which features the annual battle for the

Magnolia Cup. The Rebels have maintained possession of the Cup since 2013 with three-straight wins in the rivalry series

(no game in 2015). All Ole Miss home games will be available online through WatchESPN and the ESPN app as part of the

SEC Network + digital streaming platform.

DANIELLE GRAY EARNS PRESTIGIOUS TAYLOR MEDALOle Miss sixth-year senior Danielle Gray was among 78 University of Mississippi students to receive the 2017 Taylor Medal,

as announced this spring. The Taylor Medal is the highest academic honor a student can receive at the University of Missis-

sippi. It recognizes outstanding academic performance and is given to no more than one percent of the student body. To be

considered, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.90. Gray becomes the second Rebel soccer player to earn the presti-

gious honor, joining Ashley Ferree. The Taylor Memorial was founded by William A. Taylor in June 1904, in memory of his son,

Marcus Elvis Taylor, an honored alumnus of the class of 1871. The Taylor Memorial, as well as the other awards presented to

the students, is chosen by a committee of faculty and staff members.

Gray was also granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA following last season after she suffered a season-ending knee

injury on the first day of preseason camp in 2016. Now one of the team leaders for the Rebels, her career began way back

in 2012 at Kennesaw State, where she spent three seasons before transferring prior to the 2015 campaign in Oxford.

MK SMITH JOINS REBELS AS FIRST JUCO PLAYER UNDER MOTTIn his eight years as head coach, Matt Mott has never had a junior college player come through the program. Until now. Mary Kate Smith, a junior midfielder, joined the team this

past spring after two previous stops in her career. A native of Ellisville, Mississippi, her collegiate playing career began at Southern Miss where she spent a year. After a year in

Hattiesburg, Smith transferred to Jones County JC, where her dad serves as Chancellor. Her club coach from age 9-13 at Gulf Coast United, Dolores Deasley, also serves as head

coach at Jones, where Smith was an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2016 after scoring 21 goals and 18 assists.

DEFENSE BROUGHT TO YOU BY: JOHNSON & JOHNSON, A FAMILY COMPANYOle Miss starts sisters on the backline in Grace and Ella Johnson. Grace, a three-time all-state selection in high school, was part of the signing class announced on signing day,

while Ella brings with her three years of college experience at BYU. Ella, who stands at 5-foot-10, has started every game at centerback, while Grace has lined up next to her sister

every game thus far. The Johnson sisters are the third set of sisters to suit up under Mott.

TWO TOP-55 RPI OPPONENTS IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAYThere’s no doubt that each season the Rebels face a tough schedule playing in one of the toughest leagues in the country. This season, the Rebels got their chance at two quality

non-conference opponents in Michigan and Memphis. The match with the Wolverines ended in a 1-1 draw, while the Rebels claimed a 1-0 road win at Memphis, helping contribute

to the team’s RPI of 25.

TWO REBELS WIN CLUB NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS SUMMERTwo Rebels in particular, freshman Madison Smith and junior Tara Sullivan, already have championships in hand as the 2017 season progresses. Smith, a native of Franklin,

Tennessee, helped her club team, Tennessee Soccer Club 99/00 (TSC) to the 2017 National Championship. Sullivan, who hails from New Berlin, Illinois, claimed the 2017 WPSL

National Championship with Fire & Ice (Belleville, Ill.).

FRESH FACES, SAME EXPECTATIONSOle Miss returns a wealth of experience in 14 players from the 2016 squad, and welcomes 12 new players to the program. Nine freshmen will suit up for the Rebels this fall as well

as three transfers. Julia Phillips (Florida State), Mary Kate Smith (Jones County JC) and Ella Johnson (BYU) joined the program this past spring, as did freshman Channing Foster,

an early enrollee after graduating high school early. Overall, the Rebels return 54 percent (13-of-24) of their goal scoring from 2016, 44 percent of the assists, and 52 percent

of the total points. This year’s returners accounted for 10,000+ minutes played last fall, which provides the squad with a heavy dose of experience and depth to go along with the

talented fresh faces.

BRICK BY BRICKEach season, the senior class is tasked with creating a new team motto for the fall. This year’s class of Liza Harbin, Courtney Carroll, Danielle Gray and Bella Fiorenzo chose

Brick by Brick, or #B3, for the program. The idea stemmed from a couple of different reasons, one being the renovation of the Gillom Center, which houses the locker room,

team room, training room, and weight facility. The Ole Miss Soccer Stadium also saw a new playing surface laid down, further reiterating the Brick by Brick mantra. It also was

created with the mindset of a positive spring after a somewhat disappointing season last fall, with the hopes of the foundation and the future of the program only looking up.
