THE EPISTLE(For the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost)

Let Thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous. The Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (9:6-11)

BRETHREN, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. THE GOSPEL(For the Third Sunday of Luke)

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (7:11-16)

AT THAT TIME, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and many of His disciples and a great crowd went with Him. As He drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” And He came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And Jesus said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited His people!”

Thought for the Day“He who does not know the truth cannot truly have faith; for by nature knowl-edge precedes faith. What is said in Scripture is said not solely for us to under-stand, but also for us to act upon.” -- St. Hesychios the Priest

Choir Practice is back in sessionIt’s that time of year again! Choir practice will be held Sundays at 9 a.m. We will end practice at 9:45 am. Please join your fellow choir members in refining our repetoire, learning new music and praising God with our voices. Everyone is important and each part of the choir is essential. Without your voices we don’t have a choir. Your commitment to practice and worship supports the min-istry of our parish. May God bless us and grant us tenacity to His work.

Canned Food Drive: October - DecemberWorld Food Day, Oct. 16, is sponsored by the Food & Agriculture Organi-zation of the United States and designed to heighten awareness of food and hunger issues. The Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America is one of the sponsoring organizations for the National Committee for World Food Day. We join 458 voluntary organizations throughout the US and 163 coun-tries around the world observing World Food Day. Last year 110 of our parishes reported participating in this program, with 40 parishes participating all year. For 33 years we have pledged our support to our local food banks and again are asking you to support our Canned Food Drive. Please bring your canned goods to Church between Oct. 9 through Jan. 1.

Winter Family Camp at Antiochian VillageWinter Family Camp is a program that is the same as our summer Family Camp – except it’s during the winter! It is an opportunity for your family to get away from everyday life and take a weekend as a family to grow closer to Christ, in the beautiful setting of the Antiochian Village Camp. At Winter Family Camp, eating a meal together as a family is the norm, not the exception. Not your typical vacation, Winter Family Camp offers a mini-vacation with-out maps, lines for popcorn, or decisions over where to eat. Our flexible sched-ule gives you the choice of “doing it all” from snowtubing to sledding, or just taking it easy sitting around our fireplace. Because you’re at the Village, the day is measured not so much by hours, but by prayer; the day is bookmarked with Matins and Vespers in beautiful St. Ig-natius Church, with services sung by everyone present. Family Builder sessions offer practical, down-to-earth resources for keeping our families strong. Some of our families come to meet up with families of far-away friends; oth-ers have come and made friends and come back to reunite. Either way, in addi-tion to family time, our moms, dads and kids also enjoy meeting and spending time together. For more information, please check the following website:https://avcamp.org/other-programs/winter-family-camp/
