DAY 6 – Optional Excursion:Heidelberg A brief port call is made in Speyer for disem-barkation of the optional excursion to Hei-delberg. Known as Germany’s oldestuniversity town, Heidelberg is also famousfor the ruins of its red-walled 16th-centurycastle. The ship sails to Mannheim wherethe optional excursion re-boards. Thisevening, the ship docks in Rüdesheim, oneof the Rhine’s most delightful towns. Afterdinner, enjoy your evening in port and stopin a beer hall or wine tavern along the livelyDrosselgasse. DAY 7 – Rüdesheim and KoblenzRüdesheim is home to three medieval cas-tles and the town provides a fascinating lookthrough German history. This morning yourMayflower Cruise Directors will walk youinto town where you’ll have free time tostroll through the alleyways filled withshops or visit the Market Square. This after-noon you won’t want to miss the spectacularscenery as you cruise through the “Splendorof the Rhine” – a UNESCO World HeritageSite along the river, featuring St. Goar andthe legendary Lorelei Rock.
