The Teacher is at the Center of Learning

With the introduction of more technology resources, we still believe the teacher is the most important factor in impacting student achievement. Our focus is on a blended approach to education. Using the technology when it makes sense to enhance learning and provide feedback.

A+ Scholarship◻ Students planning to use A+ funds

need to apply to the community college of their choice (in the State of Missouri)

◻ Tuition is currently paid, books & some fees will be the student’s responsibility.

◻ Generally community colleges will use Pell Grant and other scholarships before they apply the A+ Scholarship

◻ Students do NOT need to apply to a 4-year college until their sophomore year if they are using the A+ Scholarship

◻ Fairly easy transition, however applications, orientations, test scores, & campus visits are still needed.

◻ If your student is planning to go directly to a 4-year college, please check to see if they offer an A+ incentive scholarship.

◻ See A+ Coordinator to ensure you have met A+ guidelines and know about potential A+ changes.

❏ The first 80 students who complete an application will receive a special graduation tassel

❏ Colleges have provided us with “College Swag” (t-shirts, mugs, etc.) we will draw senior names weekly from those that have completed applications to allow them to pick their choice of the “College Swag”

❏ Varied local employers will be coming in during the month of October during WNT to do “Career Connections”

❏ Our goal is that all seniors will be looking toward their future plans, whether to apply to a 2 or 4 year college or seek employment opportunities after graduation

College Applications◻ We recommend as a general guideline for students to have college/university

applications submitted by the end of October (November at the very latest)

◻ Students typically apply to more than one college/university (average 2-4 applications)

◻ Being accepted to a college/university does not mean they have to attend that school…it just gives them options…

◻ Many freshmen academic scholarships have December 1st deadlines…applying early is important!

◻ Housing options may be based on application dates … applying early is important!

◻ MSU Dual Credit Students – Students are REQUIRED to apply to MSU if they plan to go there.

Page 24: 2018 Class Of · 2016-2017 89.4% TARGET for 2017-2018 90% of LRHS students will have over 90% attendance ... Colleges have provided us with “College Swag” (t-shirts, mugs, etc.)

College Acceptance Letters

◻ Depending on how many college/universities a student applies to - some students may have one acceptance letter … some may have four!

◻ We encourage our Seniors to bring ALL acceptance letters to our office, so we can recognize their accomplishments on our bulletin board in the hallway!

◻ Again, being accepted, does NOT mean they will attend, but gives them time to make the best decision as to which college and/or university they will attend.
