Everyone Plays• Our program’s goal is for kids to play 

soccer—so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.

Balanced Teams• Each year we form new teams as 

evenly balanced as possible —because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.

AYSO Philosophies:

Open Registration• Our program is open to all children who 

want to register and play soccer.  Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Positive Coaching• Encouragement of player effort provides 

for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better‐skilled and better‐motivated players.

based on mutual respect rather than a win at all costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

Safe Haven

• All AYSO Volunteers must complete Safe Haven training

• Safe Haven training can be accessed through the online training section of AYSOU.org

• The principles and policies of Safe Haven are for your protection as well as the players

CDC Concussion Certification

• Who is required to be Concussion Certified?– All AYSO Volunteers are required to obtain a CDC Concussion

Certification through ayso.org.

• How do I get certified and how long will it take?– The concussion certification course will take approx. 45 min and can

be found in aysou.org’s online training in the Safe Haven section.

• Why is AYSO requiring this course?– A 2015 study found that for every 10,000 “athlete exposures”—a

student participating in a game or practice—there were 4.5 concussions for girls and 2.8 for boys

– This means that in Region 56 alone we should expect 5 concussions in girls U9-U19 and 3 in boys U9-U19 during the fall season!

Required VolunteersEvery team must have the following:

– Head Coach – all head coaches must have player medical waivers with them at all times. Will be emailed.

– Assistant Coach– Team Parent– Referee (U7 and U8 only)

Uniforms will not be provided unless your team has the registered volunteers (registration only, i.e. completed volunteer app. Training does not need to be complete prior to uniform pick-up)

All volunteers must complete the required training courses

AYSO rules require at least two volunteers with the children at all times and at least one volunteer needs to be of the same gender as the players

U5 Division Rules– 5-6 players per team– Practices can take place at Eader, Hawes, or Sowers. Brethren Christian, but

limited between 5:30-6:30 and away from lights. • Limit to max of 1 practice per week, M-F only (30-45 min in length)

– Games played 4v4– All games at Brethren Christian– 20 minute game (10 mins per half; 5 min half time)– Goals are 4x6 ft– Field size is 25 yds wide and 35 yds long– Size 3 ball– All players must wear shin guards– No throw-ins: pass-in on out of bounds– No headers– No goalies– Players cannot “goal tend” on defense or “cherry pick” on offense. All players

must make an attempt to be involved in the flow of the game.– No more than 2 coaches (1 per team) on the field during the game

• Coaches may NOT stand behind the play (blocking the goal) and should try and move up and down the side lines

– Games played 5v5– All games at Eader Elementary– 40 minute game (20 mins per half; 5 min half time)– Goals are 4x6 ft– Field size is 30 yds wide and 45 yds long– Size 3 ball– All players must wear shin guards– No throw-ins: pass-in on out of bounds– No headers– No goalies– Players cannot “goal tend” on defense or “cherry pick” on offense. All players

must make an attempt to be involved in the flow of the game.– No coaches on the playing field during game. Every game will have 1 referee.

Practice & Field Etiquette• Region 56 fields:

– Peterson Elementary– Hawes Elementary (limited due to construction) – Eader Elementary – Moffett Elementary– Sowers Middle School– Brethren Christian

PRACTICES ARE ALLOWED ON REGION 56 FIELDS ONLY

• You may not enter the BC fields prior to 5:30pm!

• Yield to school events and do not enter until they are complete

• U12 teams and above have priority at BC

• NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED AT ANY OF OUR FIELDS!– Our fields are school property and in O.C. dogs

are prohibited on all school grounds.– Tell your players parents to leave their pooch at

home– If you see a dog, politely inform the owner of this

fact and ask them to leave– If the owner doesn’t remove the dog and you feel

your players are in danger, call HBPD

• Field & Equipment Stewardship– Goals and other equipment in the bins are for games only– Pick up any trash your team creates– If you are the last to leave a field, make sure things are locked up

• Field Space is first come first serve but please be respectful of other teams needs

• Scrimmages do not take precedent over practices and MUST be on Region 56 approved fields.

Volunteer Playoffs & Points• If a team would like to participate in the Volunteer

Appreciation Playoffs, they must qualify:– Acrew 80 total volunteer points– 46 of the 80 points must come from referee points

• Winners from each division U10-U14 in both boys and girls will go on to represent Region 56 in the Area League Playoffs
