INTRODUCTION

This is a supplement to your Dodge ChallengerSRT Owner’s Manual. Please review the Owner’sManual in addition to this user’s supplement.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is theindustry’s first and only purpose-built, street-legal production drag car. This vehicle has beendeveloped with one focus: to be the dominatingforce at the drag strip. To achieve this goal, allaspects of the vehicle have been tuned andre-engineered with several exclusive track fea-tures that offer optimal performance on the dragstrip, and relentlessly push the boundaries ofwhat is known as a performance street car. YourDodge Demon is the widest Challenger ever, andhas 20+ industry first drag performance fea-tures that put this car in a league of its own.

Listed here are a few of the industry’s first dragperformance features:

• TransBrake: A feature that holds the vehiclestationary by the use of the transmission toachieve maximum power and torque atlaunch.

• High Octane Mode: High Octane Fuel calibra-tion allows Demon to run on 100 octane fuelfor added performance

• SRT Power Chiller: diverts the A/C refrigerantto the supercharger for cooler air intake tem-peratures and maximum power output.

This supplement offers insight into inherentcharacteristics of the vehicle, including itsunique features and how they are operated.

This vehicle has been designed to maximizeperformance at the drag strip. In doing so, thestandard configuration of this vehicle includes atwo speaker audio system, removed sounddeadening material, and removed passenger/rear seat and seat belts for increased vehicleperformance. As a result, the interior (drivercockpit) NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness)will be louder overall. This vehicle will likely getlouder over time, but note that is not an indica-tion of degraded durability; it is simply a char-acter change in the NVH.

WARNING!

• If the passenger and/or rear seats havebeen removed do not ride in those areas. In

WARNING!a collision, people riding in those areas aremore likely to be seriously injured or killed.

• Warning labels are included in the car toreinforce this point.

• If this vehicle was not factory equippedwith a passenger seat, NEVER attempt toinstall a passenger seat because the safetysystems, including the air bags and seat-belt, may not properly protect the occu-pant.

• Read and follow all instructions and warn-ings in the Seats and Occupant Restraintssections of the owner manual for addi-tional information.

WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS

While reading this user supplement, you willfind a series of WARNINGS that must be care-fully followed to prevent incorrect use of thecomponents of the vehicle, which could causeaccidents or injuries.

There are also CAUTIONS to prevent proceduresthat could damage your vehicle.

NOTE:Observe all Warnings and Cautions.

suffer much greater injuries if you are notproperly buckled up. You can strike theinterior of your vehicle or other passengers,or you can be thrown out of the vehicle.

VEHICLE ALTERATIONS

WARNING!

Any modifications or alterations to thisvehicle could seriously affect its roadworthiness and safety and may lead to acollision resulting in serious injury or death.

NOTE:Leaded racing fuel or flex fuels (E85, etc.)MUST NOT be used, as these will cause damageto mechanical and emissions compliance hard-ware.

Non-OEM performance upgrades are not ap-proved by FCA, and may void the warranty forthe entire powertrain system and potentiallyother systems on the vehicle. FCA uses telltalesoftware to detect the use of modifications –these telltales are stored and not removed if thevehicle is returned to standard.

WILDWHEEL STEERING WHEELSuperior racing grip CLEANING:

It is sufficient to dust the Wildwheel steeringwheel using a soft bristle brush, a dry cloth, or avacuum cleaner with care. After having dusted, run a white cotton terry cloth that has beendampened and thoroughly wrung out over theWildwheel steering wheel. Avoid the use ofprinted absorbent cloths/papers, as they canrelease ink onto the material. Take extra care notto wet the steering wheel excessively; rinse thecloth or sponge and repeat as necessary. Leaveto dry (overnight). Once dried, in order to restorethe material, brush it delicately with a softbristle brush.

Recommended Tire Pressure:

Street: 32 psi cold for all tires

Drag Strip:

• Rear Tires – depending on the outside tem-perature and track conditions, the operatingpressure recommendation is 18-24 psi hot.

• Front Tires – do not exceed maximum tireinflation rating.

NOTE:

• Always return the tire pressure to street rec-ommended pressure levels before driving ve-hicle on public roads.

• This vehicle is speed limited to 168 mph(270 km/h) based on the factory tire speedrating.

• The Demon Crate Powertrain Control Module(PCM) is not equipped with a speed limiter. This will allow the vehicle to exceed the tires’speed rating of 168 mph (270 km/h). Thiscould adversely affect the safety and han-dling of the vehicle. It is the customer’sresponsibility to equip the vehicle with thecorrect speed rated tires for their use above aspeed rating of 168 mph (270 km/h).

• Contact Nitto Tire at 888-529-8200 for ad-ditional tire information.

WARNING!

Serious injury or death may result from tirefailure due to under-inflation and/or over-loading. Always adjust your tires to theproper inflation pressure (See tire informa-tion placard). Always inspect your tires for

WARNING!any signs of damage before proceeding ontopublic roads.

CAUTION!

The Nitto NT05R meets U.S. D.O.T. require-ments, but they are not intended for ex-tended highway use as the expected miles ofwear from the racing compound is greatlyreduced compared to a conventional roadtire. These tires are not recommended fordriving in wet weather conditions where thereis a risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drivecautiously at reduced speeds in these condi-tions.

CAUTION!

Do not move the vehicle in temperaturesbelow 15° F with the Nitto Drag Radialsinstalled. In temperatures below 15° F, tirescan lose flexibility and that can lead to crack-ing and other tire damage. Always inspect forsigns of cracking and damage before use.

FEATURES

OVERVIEW

Selectable Line Lock Feature — TrackUse Only

Line Lock has been developed as a burnoutassist tool to warm up the rear tires by lockingthe front brakes independently of the rearbrakes.

This feature is activated by selecting the LineLock button in the radio within the DRAG OP-TIONS. This feature will display instructions inthe instrument cluster display.

Refer to page 25 for step-by-step instructions.

Selectable TransBrake™ Feature —Track Use Only

TransBrake™ is specifically designed for thedrag strip by holding the vehicle stationary toachieve maximum power and torque at launch. This is done by engaging an additional trans-mission clutch. Torque Reserve is automaticallyenabled while using TransBrake™, and offers aunique exhaust note. The Torque Reserve fea-ture maintains supercharger airflow to providefaster engine torque response and improve ve-hicle acceleration. This feature is intended fortrack use only, where consistent quarter mileand zero to sixty times are desired. The systemis not intended to compensate for lack of driverexperience or familiarity with the track. Use ofthis feature in low traction (cold, wet, gravel, etc.) conditions may result in excess wheel slipat launch.

NOTE:TransBrake™ feature will only hold the vehiclestationary for 15 seconds once the brake pedalis released. The Torque Reserve feature is lim-ited to 15 seconds after the engine speedreaches 950 RPM.

NOTE:The TransBrake™ feature provides the fastestmethod of launching the car which results in thelowest 1/4 mile ET.

Selectable After-Run Cooling Feature

Race Cool Down is a feature activated by select-ing the Race Cool Down button in the radiowithin the DRAG OPTIONS.

To enable this feature, the vehicle will check toensure the engine is off, the hood is closed, thestatus of the battery and system are good, anddetermine if cooling is required.

After making a pass down the drag strip, thisfeature helps cool the car after the engine hasbeen shut down. The radiator fan and low tem-perature radiator coolant pump remain on afterengine shutdown for a period up to five minutesor until target temperature is reached.

A graph in the radio can show the resultingintercooler coolant temperature in real timewhile the vehicle ignition is in run position withthe engine off.

NOTE:Race Cool Down feature (After-Run) will onlycome on with engine off. The temperature willdisplay with engine running also, but After-RunCooling will not be functioning.

This feature will automatically deactivate afterextended driving at road speeds, or when one ormore of the following conditions apply:

• when intercooler coolant temperature isabove a calibrated amount and ambient tem-perature.

• When battery state of charge is above athreshold that ensures use of Race Cooldown will still result in sufficient crankingspeed.

• The hood is opened.

Selectable Launch Control — Track UseOnly

This vehicle is equipped with a Launch Controlsystem that is designed to allow the driver toachieve maximum vehicle acceleration in astraight line. Launch Control is a form of trac-tion control that manages tire slip while launch-ing the vehicle. Torque Reserve is also automati-cally enabled while using Launch Control andoffers a unique exhaust note. The Torque Re-serve feature maintains supercharger airflow toprovide faster engine torque response and im-prove vehicle acceleration. This feature is in-tended for track use only, where consistent

quarter mile and zero to sixty times are desired. The system is not intended to compensate forlack of driver experience or familiarity with therace track. Use of this feature in low traction(cold, wet, gravel, etc.) conditions may result inexcess wheel slip outside this systems control. After Launch Control is completed or canceled, the Stability Control setting will return to thelast setting.

NOTE:The Launch Control feature is limited to fiveseconds after the engine speed reaches1000 RPM.

The launch control feature is activated by abutton on the center console switch bank orwithin DRAG OPTIONS in the radio.

RPM range can be adjusted in 100 RPM incre-ments from 1000 to 2500 RPM.

AUTOMATICALLY ENABLEDFEATURES

Torque Reserve

Torque Reserve is automatically enabled whileusing Launch Control and TransBrake. TheTorque Reserve feature maintains superchargerairflow to provide faster engine torque responseand improve vehicle acceleration. Torque Re-serve opens the throttle and prepositions thesupercharger bypass valve, delivering excess air.Torque is controlled during this time by shuttingfuel off to multiple cylinders and retarding spark

as necessary, holding the potential torque inreserve. As soon as the driver launches the car, fuel flow is restored and spark is advanced toinstantaneously deliver the reserve torque. For agiven launch engine speed, additional torque isdelivered more quickly than is possible withmanual control.

In TransBrake mode, the amount of reservetorque produced depends on the driver's pedalposition. In Launch Control, the amount oftorque at launch depends on the engine launchspeed selected in the Race Options menu.

Due to the way the engine is controlled duringTorque Reserve, a distinct exhaust note is gen-erated and engine vibration increases. Torquereserve is only active for 15 seconds upon acti-vation.

Launch Assist

Launch assist is a feature that is intended toreduce on-throttle wheel hop when it is ob-served. Wheel hop (tire shake) is a condition inwhich the rear tires have a stick/slip condition ata very high frequency rate. This condition canbe damaging to the vehicle and slows the ve-hicle down. Launch Assist is capable of adjust-

ing torque almost instantly once a stick/slipevent is observed, allowing the vehicle to con-tinue launching without the need for the driverto lift off of the throttle.

SRT Power Chiller™

When the vehicle enters DRAG mode, refriger-ant from the AC system is redirected from in-cabin air conditioning to the air cooler coolantcircuit. The cabin air conditioning will not func-tion in this mode.

When ambient temperature is above 55° F, thissystem supplements external cooling on theintake manifold / supercharger and can bring aircooler coolant temperature below ambient.

NOTE:

• This may bring the charge air temperaturedown by up to 45° F (25° C). This does notfunction under 55° F ambient.

• Do not use alternative refrigerants.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

Clean Engine Air Filter

When Do I Clean My Engine Air Filter?

• The scheduled air filter cleaning is30,000 miles, or if in a dusty environmentthe engine air filter should be checked peri-odically to ensure optimal air flow.

• Cleaning your engine air filter with the rec-ommended Mopar Performance Air FilterService Kit P5153376 is not required if youcan still see the wire screen on the entire airfilter regardless of how dirty it may appear. Ifyou have not experienced a decrease in en-gine performance, chances are your air filteris fine and does not need to be cleaned. When the screen is no longer visible someplace on the air filter, it’s time to clean yourair filter.

1. Apply Mopar Air Filter Cleaner:

• Spray your air filter with the recom-mended Mopar air filter cleaner liberallyand let it sit for at least 10 minutes toloosen the dirt before rinsing.

NOTE:

Do not allow the cleaner to dry on the filter.

2. Rinse Your Air Filter:

• Rinse off your air filter with cool low-pressure water applied to the clean sideout in order to flush the dirt out of thefilter. Continue to rinse the filter until alltraces of cleaner are gone. It may benecessary to repeat steps 1 and 2 if theair filter isn’t completely clean.

3. Dry Your Air Filter:

• After rinsing your filter, gently shake offthe excess water and only allow filter todry naturally. Do not apply oil until the airfilter is completely dry.

NOTE:

Do not use forced air pressure as it may de-stroy the filtering capabilities of the filter’smicrofibers and also void its warranty.

POST-RUN CHECKS

Between Run Checks

Check Tire Condition

One important issue often overlooked is propercare of the tires. The following is a short list ofsuggestions for checking tire condition and tirecare.

1. Check front and rear tire pressure.

• Front Tires — do not exceed maximum tireinflation rating.

• Rear Tires — depending on the outsidetemperature and track conditions, the op-

erating pressure recommendation is 18-24 psi hot.

2. Check the tread depth to be at a safe level.

3. Check for uneven tire wear. Uneven tire wearcould be a result of one or more of thefollowing:

• Uneven tire pressure.

• Low tire pressure.

• High tire pressure.

• Other issue.

Wheel Lug Nut Torque

Proper lug nut torque is very important. Toensure that the wheel is properly mounted to thevehicle use a calibrated torque wrench.

Torque Specifications

**Use only authorized dealer recommended lugnuts and clean or remove any dirt or oil beforetightening.

Inspect the wheel mounting surface prior tomounting the tire and remove any corrosion orloose particles.

Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until each nuthas attained proper torque, verified twice each.

WARNING!

DO NOT tighten the lug nuts fully until thevehicle has been lowered. Failure to followthis warning may result in personal injury.

Fluids

Between runs check the following fluid levels:

• Engine oil level.

• Engine coolant level.

• Brake fluid level.

Activate After Run Cooler

After making a pass down the drag strip, thisfeature helps cool the car after the engine hasbeen shut down. The radiator fan and low tem-perature radiator coolant pump remain on aftershut down for a period up to five minutes, oruntil target temperature is reached.

The After-Run Cooling is activated.

A graph in the radio can show the air coolercoolant temperature in real time while the vehi-cle's ignition button is in the RUN position withengine off.

NOTE:You can only view temperatures with the Key-less Go ignition in the RUN position and theengine off.

Check For Hood Scoop Debris

Any debris moving through the air can be col-lected in the hood scoop, make sure hood scoopopening is free of debris. This can defeat thepurpose of a scoop, by blocking air from enter-ing the scoop inlet.

Log Run Data

You can learn much about optimizing your car’sperformance and consistency at a test and tunesession. Use this opportunity to carefully moni-tor and record vehicle, track and temperatureconditions after each pass prior to staging andimmediately after each run.

CHECKS BEFORE LEAVING THE TRACK

Before returning to the street, check the follow-ing items:

• Check tire condition, refer to Check Tire Con-dition.

• Return rear tires to recommended streetpressures (32 psi cold).

• Swap front tires if Demon front runnerwheels were previously installed.

• Lug nut torque: 111 Ft-Lbs (150 N-m).

NOTE:

Refer to page 27 for step-by-step instructions.

• Fluids– Engine oil level.– Engine coolant level.– Brake fluid level.
