ST. LOUIS, MO

WELCOMEWelcome to CVTA’s 2018 Fall Conference. On behalf of the Conference Committee, please let me extend our thanks and appreciation for taking time out of your busy schedules to be here with us in St. Louis.

Our first point of business is holding a Special Election to fill the vacant School Member board seat.

Our Immediate Past Chairman, Gary Strube, was required to step down because of join-ing another Board member’s school. CVTA’s Bylaws & Policies prohibit two Board mem-bers from the same company to serve at the same time. As a result, the CVTA Board has voted to appoint current Board Emeritus and former CVTA Chairman, Lou Spoonhour, to take Gary’s seat on the Executive Committee. However, since the Bylaws & Policies require seven (7) school member Board seats, Gary’s absence requires that CVTA hold a special election at this Fall Conference to maintain the appropriate number of school member seats on the Board.

We have two outstanding candidates who are running for the Board of Directors. They are Jeff Steinberg (Apex CDL Institute) and Chris Jones (Roehl Driver Training Center). Before the conference is over, we will be able to announce who will be serving on the Board starting immediately. The Board Member elected will fill the remainder of Gary’s term which lasts through October 2019.

We also welcome two new members to our Board of Directors who were elected in the Spring, Advanced Training Systems’ Becky Hudson (Associate) and Swift Transporta-tion’s Tim McLain (Motor Carrier). They officially begin their terms following the con-clusion of the Fall Conference.

We want to thank J. Smith Lanier’s Davida Rogers and Paschall Truck Line’s Paul Ras-mussen for their service during their time on the Board. Both Davida and Paul have been fantastic Board members and dedicated much time and effort to making CVTA a better association. On behalf of CVTA’s membership, please take time to thank Paul and Davida for their service to CVTA.

Thanks for all you do, and I hope you have a great conference.

During this two-hour interactive session, CVTA mem-bers will participate in a discussion to better learn and/or educate their peers on the following topic.

Technology is advancing and being deployed at a rapid pace. These deployments will change trucking,

education, and how drivers learn to drive the trucks themselves.

As technology develops, how can schools, carriers, and others prepare drivers for these technological

CONFERENCE AGENDAAll CVTA events will take place in Grand Rooms A - D

2:30 PM - Local SEO: Why is it Important?Deb Rishel, President & CEO, Paradigm Digital Group

Increase your school’s visibility with local search engine optimization. There are many places outside of social media that your school’s loca-tion can be found. You can get qualified, branded leads and increase your school’s opportunity to grow admissions. You don’t have to rely on only buying leads when you have your own assets waiting to be put to work. Now is the time to begin promoting your brand and location with opti-mized search results.

3:15 PM - Break

3:30 PM - Transitioning Students from School to a Successful CareerJill Balleh, President, CDS Tractor Trailer Training; Marilyn Surber, Employee Services Manager, Melton Truck Lines

Going from student to trucker is a big transition for new CDL holders. This transition period is also a time where new drivers leave their new employers. During this interactive session, Ms. Surber and Ms. Balleh will present findings from the Spring Conference roundtable session, present school and carrier viewpoints on the causes and solutions to reducing early driver departure during this transition.

8 AM - Breakfast (Sponsored by Schneider)

9 AM - Best Practices: AdmissionsAaron Lacey and Bill Bay, Partners, Thompson Coburn LLP

As part of its ongoing Best Practices series, CVTA will release a new publi-cation for schools focused on building a strong and compliant admissions team. During the presentation, Aaron Lacey and Bill Bay, will walk attend-ees through the new guide, highlighting important laws, describing risks, and offering best practices that are designed to keep admissions teams running smoothly and out of trouble.

Newly introduced 360⁰ VR goggles allows for Pre-Trip inspection without going to the truck. The implementation of patented motion, force-feedback steering and harmonic transducers, by ATS, makes the training as “Real” as driving the truck itself. The confidence created by ATS systems, allows schools to graduate better trained, more prepared drivers. The increased transfer of training on an ATS simula-tor to the road, for experienced drivers, allows car-riers to maintain safer more efficient drivers.
