“I am still so impressed by the Faroe Islands, and
so happy that I had the chance to explore the most beautiful islands and meet the most hospitable people this summer. Every time I meet new people I tell them how wonderful Faroe Islands are. I am already missing the Faroe Islands and looking for-ward to visit soon.

The University of the Faroe Islands will hold an international
summer institute August 06-25 2018 offering an intensive and
comprehensive introduction to Faroese language and culture. The institute will take place at the
University in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands.
About 20 students can be accepted at the Institute, and university students from all countries can
apply. Students must have knowledge of other Scandinavian or Germanic languages and know the
basic concepts of grammar.
The academic programme is a comprehensive introduction to Faroese language. The programme
includes 50 lessons in grammar and lang-
uage exercises. In addition there will be
some lectures on different aspects of Faroese
culture and society.
Classes are scheduled five days a week. Mon-
day through Friday, in the morning and the
afternoon.
Languages of instruction will be Faroese and
English. Class attendance is obligatory.
Students who pass a final test at the end of
the course are provided with a certificate (10
ECTS/European Credit Transfer and Accu-
mulation System).
Part of the activities of the summer institute are guided tours of the National History Museum and
for example, the national Art Gallery and a sight-seeing tour of Tórshavn. The photo above by Ana-
stasia Tishunina shows some of the 2016 students at Tinganes, the historic center of Tórshavn.
One all-day excursion will be arranged at an extra cost of 600 DKK. The photo by Olesya Shem-
raeva bottom left is from a student trip to the village Gjógv in
2016.
In the afternoon of Monday August 6 there will be a welcome
gathering. A celebration will be organized at the course on
Saturday August 25 (Mildred Galivo Hansen’s photo bottom

The students will be encouraged to organize other social events
at the university premises.
