ILLUSTRATOR PDFS:

To create a PDF, you can either “Save as” a PDF from Illustrator or “Print to” a PDF file.

To Save as: Use the Press Quality preset. Under the Marks and Bleeds tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section, put 3mm for each value.

To Print to a PDF: Select Adobe PDF as the printer. Under the Marks and Bleeds tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section put 3mm for each of the values.

INDESIGN PDFS:

PDFs are “exported” from InDesign. Use the Press Quality preset. Under the ‘Marks and Bleeds’ tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section, put 3mm for each of the values.

PHOTOSHOP PDFS:

Set up your document size including the bleeds. E.g. if your final printed piece is to be A7 (74 x 105 mm), set up your Photoshop document to measure

80 x 111mm. (Additional 6mm per measurement) To print your PDF: Select File > Print then select Adobe PDF as the printer. Click the Page Setup button, in the Adobe PDF Settings tab, select Press Quality in the Default Settings dropdown. In the Adobe PDF Page Size section, you will need to add a custom paper size which is 10 MM larger than your Photoshop document. Click Add/Modify and select the new page size you created, click OK. In the Position section, ensure that the Center Image option is checked. The Scaled Print Size option should be 100%. In the Output tab check the corners for Crop Marks. Click Bleed and enter 3mm as the value. Click Print and your PDF will be created.

LAYERED ARTWORK

When supplying artwork as a PDF please ensure that the artwork is set up correctly. This means files from Photoshop should be flattened to one layer and not set up as a multi layer document. This decreases the amount of superfluous information on your file and streamlines it for output.

CHECKLIST FOR SENDING YOUR FILESATTENTION! IF YOUR FILES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THESE SPECIFICATIONS WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR JOB WILL BE PRINTED CORRECTLY OR ON TIME.3mm of bleed is required for jobs with an image or colour background. If your artwork is not supplied with bleed, we may ask you to resupply it or we will charge you for the time it takes us to correct it. All digital files must be flattened (i.e. all layers and vector graphics have been converted to outlines).

Files must be no more than 5MB in order to send via e-mail to [email protected] If your file is larger than 5MB then you can use ‘yousendit.com’ ‘mailbigfile.com’ or ‘wetransfer.com’ Alternatively, contact us and we can provide you with our FTP details.

FILE NAMING CONVENTION

• File names must contain specific information about the job and adhere to the following naming convention:

Name of job_size_side_stock_quantity e.g. FPS_A6_singleside_150gsm gloss_Qty 500.pdf

ARTWORK RESOLUTION (DPI)

• Colour raster images should be minimum 300dpi• Greyscale raster images should be minimum

800dpi. Monochromatic bitmaps should be minimum 1200dpi.

• All images must be embedded in the PDF files.

FONTS

• All fonts must be embedded, outlined or converted to curves

• For CMYK coloured fonts, the type must be no less than 8pt

LAYERS

• All Layers MUST be flattened

DIE-CUT LINES

• All die-cuts lines must be a vector image, NOT raster images

• Die-cut lines must be provided in the exact positions in a separate page.

TRANSPARENCY & OVERPRINTS

• All Layers MUST be flattenedIf a transparency or overprint are to be used in the document, it must be flattened and preserved within the document

LINE THICKNESS

• Minimum line thickness is 0.25pt. Anything less than a hairline will not hold on the press

SPOT COLOURS

• All Spot Colour jobs must be provided in a spot separation or map to a 100% of a solid separation colour.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Additional costs may include delivery, artwork, changes, proofs or additional finishing. Artwork must be supplied to our specifications (see above); press ready PDF or JPG format with 3mm bleed. Please read spec sheet before submission. Incorrectly supplied artwork may be rejected. Fix-ups, when accepted, will incur an artwork fee.

Turnaround timelines are ex factory and do not include time in transit.

PAYMENTS

All work is COD unless credit has been previously arranged. We accept MasterCard, VISA, B-pay, direct debit and PostPay. Cash payments can be made at our office in Alexandria.

BLACK

• All BLACK text to be left as 100% black unless it is more than 50pt

• For “rich black” in digital printing, please leave it at 100% black.

Files supplied as RGB may not be detected and will print discoloured and dull. We will not take any responsibility for an unexpected result.

COLOR MODE

• All colour modes should be converted to CMYK mode. If documents are to be printed in CMYK (Process), all colours including RGB and Pantones (Spot) must be converted to CMYK before making PDF files

• 3mm external bleed• Text margin should be 3mm from trim edge• All documents must be supplied with crop marks

ART SPECIFICATIONSSETTING UP YOUR ARTWORKLIVE AREA: This is the area on your artwork where all the important stuff goes, 3mm in from the final trimmed size. We have this as a safe printing area so nothing essential gets chopped off your artwork.

BLEED: This is 3mm of extra background around all the edges of your document. We cut off this excess at the finishing part of printing.

TRIM: This is the final size of your printed piece once the bleed has been removed.

The table below gives the dimensions of standard international paper sizes.

THE FINE PRINTOur prices do not include GST or deliveryIn an effort to give all our clients the best possible rates regardless of location, we calculate freight costs on a job by job basis. Most digital printing & signage is done in our factory in Alexandria, however we also use additional trade suppliers both nationally & internationally.

PAYMENTSWhy does the express rate for same day turnaround vary from an additional 30% to an additional 50%?Because of the many variable factors involved in super fast turnarounds. For example, if you supply your job to us late in the afternoon and require it for the next morning we will put on overnight staff to complete the job and this will incur the higher surcharge up to an additional 50%.

Various finishes can be applied to both digital and offset flyers. These include: matte/gloss celloglaze, spot UV varnish, embossing, foiling, die cutting, scoring, perfing, special PMS colours, rounded corners and hole punching.

VARIABLE DATA: For adding that personal touch to invitations and promotional communiques.

DRILLING: Perfect for swing tags - not just for fashion designers.

PERFORATIONS: Make it easier for your customers to redeem your promotions by providing tickets or vouchers which can be torn out.

SCORING/FOLDING: Scoring makes folding easier on heavy cards and also reduces the chance of the ink cracking on the folded area.

DIE CUTTING: Add an extra dimension to your print by cutting it to shape. Just about any shape is possible; however, the more intricate, the more expensive it becomes.

EMBOSSING: Get bossy! Add a third dimension to your printing.

FOILING: In multiple colours (but mostly metallic gold and silver) for that regal look. Great on cards and flyers.

CELLOGLAZING: A thin laminate coating that not only makes your printing look and feel great, it increases longevity.

OFFSET PAPER STOCKS: A wide range of stocks are available for offset printing. Prices for offset printing of flyers are often based on gang printing (running several jobs together) so prices & turnarounds on can vary greatly from the standard stocks listed above. BOOKLETS & BOOKLET COVERSBooklets are folded sheets that have been saddle-stitched (stapled along the spine) and are typically used for newsletters, price lists, catalogues or magazines. Because of the way they are made, the number of pages in a booklet will always be a multiple of four.

As well as interior pages, we can also add a 4 page cover to your booklet utilising a heavier stock or a stock with a contrasting texture (we have loads of different papers to choose from).

Booklets and brochures are to be supplied as individual multi-page PDF with 3mm bleed all around. Please do not paginate or supply as spreads. Artwork should begin and end with the front and back covers respectively.

Here’s some helpful information about some of our most common finishing processes and what they add to your project. WIRE BINDING?

This is where the spine of your booklet is hole punched and then has wire threaded through the holes to bind it, forming a coil at the spine. This is ideal for large documents.

LAMINATING?

The process of laminating involves applying a semi rigid polyester film to paper or board. Laminating gives extra protection, makes items more robust and extends the life of the print, It also makes items somewhat waterproof and stops pest damage. This means laminating is ideal for items which need some extra protection and preservation like posters, signs, menus, wine lists, place labels and price tags. STAPLING?

It may sound simple but sometimes documents require custom staple positioning such as at the top rather than the side. We can cater to all your needs.

Here’s some helpful information about some of our most common finishing processes and what they add to your project. WIRE BINDING?

This is where the spine of your booklet is hole punched and then has wire threaded through the holes to bind it, forming a coil at the spine. This is ideal for large documents.

LAMINATING?

The process of laminating involves applying a semi rigid polyester film to paper or board. Laminating gives extra protection, makes items more robust and extends the life of the print, It also makes items somewhat waterproof and stops pest damage. This means laminating is ideal for items which need some extra protection and preservation like posters, signs, menus, wine lists, place labels and price tags. STAPLING?

It may sound simple but sometimes documents require custom staple positioning such as at the top rather than the side. We can cater to all your needs.

BOOKLETS & BOOKLET COVERSBooklets are folded sheets that have been saddle-stitched (stapled along the spine) and are typically used for newsletters, price lists, catalogues or magazines. Because of the way they are made, the number of pages in a booklet will always be a multiple of four.

As well as interior pages, we can also add a 4 page cover to your booklet utilising a heavier stock or a stock with a contrasting texture (we have loads of different papers to choose from).

Booklets and brochures are to be supplied as individual multi-page PDF with 3mm bleed all around. Please do not paginate or supply as spreads. Artwork should begin and end with the front and back covers respectively.

The above offset booklet prices are based on 3 to 5 working days.

Various finishes can be applied to both digital and offset flyers. These include: matte/gloss celloglaze, spot UV varnish, embossing, foiling, die cutting, scoring, perfing, special PMS colours, rounded corners and hole punching.

VARIABLE DATA: For adding that personal touch to invitations and promotional communiques.

DRILLING: Perfect for swing tags - not just for fashion designers.

PERFORATIONS: Make it easier for your customers to redeem your promotions by providing tickets or vouchers which can be torn out.

SCORING/FOLDING: Scoring makes folding easier on heavy cards and also reduces the chance of the ink cracking on the folded area.

DIE CUTTING: Add an extra dimension to your print by cutting it to shape. Just about any shape is possible; however, the more intricate, the more expensive it becomes.

EMBOSSING: Get bossy! Add a third dimension to your printing.

FOILING: In multiple colours (but mostly metallic gold and silver) for that regal look. Great on cards and flyers.

CELLOGLAZING: A thin laminate coating that not only makes your printing look and feel great, it increases longevity.

OFFSET PAPER STOCKS: A wide range of stocks are available for offset printing. Prices for offset printing of flyers are often based on gang printing (running several jobs together) so prices & turnarounds on can vary greatly from the standard stocks listed above. THE FINE PRINTOur prices do not include GST or deliveryIn an effort to give all our clients the best possible rates regardless of location, we calculate freight costs on a job by job basis. Most digital printing & signage is done in our factory in Alexandria, however we also use additional trade suppliers both nationally & internationally.

PAYMENTSWhy does the express rate for same day turnaround vary from an additional 30% to an additional 50%?Because of the many variable factors involved in super fast turnarounds. For example, if you supply your job to us late in the afternoon and require it for the next morning we will put on overnight staff to complete the job and this will incur the higher surcharge up to an additional 50%.

ART SPECIFICATIONSSETTING UP YOUR ARTWORKLIVE AREA: This is the area on your artwork where all the important stuff goes, 3mm in from the final trimmed size. We have this as a safe printing area so nothing essential gets chopped off your artwork.

BLEED: This is 3mm of extra background around all the edges of your document. We cut off this excess at the finishing part of printing.

TRIM: This is the final size of your printed piece once the bleed has been removed.

ILLUSTRATOR PDFS:

To create a PDF, you can either “Save as” a PDF from Illustrator or “Print to” a PDF file.

To Save as: Use the Press Quality preset. Under the Marks and Bleeds tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section, put 3mm for each value.

To Print to a PDF: Select Adobe PDF as the printer. Under the Marks and Bleeds tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section put 3mm for each of the values.

INDESIGN PDFS:

PDFs are “exported” from InDesign. Use the Press Quality preset. Under the ‘Marks and Bleeds’ tab, check Trim marks. Also in this tab, in the Bleeds section, put 3mm for each of the values.

PHOTOSHOP PDFS:

Set up your document size including the bleeds. E.g. if your final printed piece is to be A7 (74 x 105 mm), set up your Photoshop document to measure

80 x 111mm. (Additional 6mm per measurement) To print your PDF: Select File > Print then select Adobe PDF as the printer. Click the Page Setup button, in the Adobe PDF Settings tab, select Press Quality in the Default Settings dropdown. In the Adobe PDF Page Size section, you will need to add a custom paper size which is 10 MM larger than your Photoshop document. Click Add/Modify and select the new page size you created, click OK. In the Position section, ensure that the Center Image option is checked. The Scaled Print Size option should be 100%. In the Output tab check the corners for Crop Marks. LAYERED ARTWORK

When supplying artwork as a PDF please ensure that the artwork is set up correctly. This means files from Photoshop should be flattened to one layer and not set up as a multi layer document. This decreases the amount of superfluous information on your file and streamlines it for output.

IF YOUR FILES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THESE SPECIFICATIONS WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOUR JOB WILL BE PRINTED CORRECTLY OR ON TIME.3mm of bleed is required for jobs with an image or colour background. If your artwork is not supplied with bleed, we may ask you to resupply it or we will charge you for the time it takes us to correct it. All digital files must be flattened (i.e. all layers and vector graphics have been converted to outlines).

FILE FORMAT:

• PDF is the preferred file format• Multiple pages or spreads should be combined

into a single PDF file for submission

SENDING YOUR FILE

Files must be no more than 5MB in order to send via e-mail to [email protected] If your file is larger than 5MB then you can use ‘yousendit.com’ ‘mailbigfile.com’ or ‘wetransfer.com’ Alternatively, contact us and we can provide you with our FTP details.

FILE NAMING CONVENTION

• File names must contain specific information about the job and adhere to the following naming convention:

Name of job_size_side_stock_quantity e.g. FPS_A6_singleside_150gsm gloss_Qty 500.pdf

ARTWORK RESOLUTION (DPI)

• Colour raster images should be minimum 300dpi• Greyscale raster images should be minimum

800dpi. Monochromatic bitmaps should be minimum 1200dpi.

• All images must be embedded in the PDF files.

FONTS

• All fonts must be embedded, outlined or converted to curves

• For CMYK coloured fonts, the type must be no less than 8pt

LAYERS

• All Layers MUST be flattened

DIE-CUT LINES

• All die-cuts lines must be a vector image, NOT raster images

• Die-cut lines must be provided in the exact positions in a separate page.

TRANSPARENCY & OVERPRINTS

• All Layers MUST be flattenedIf a transparency or overprint are to be used in the document, it must be flattened and preserved within the document

LINE THICKNESS

• Minimum line thickness is 0.25pt. Anything less than a hairline will not hold on the press

SPOT COLOURS

• All Spot Colour jobs must be provided in a spot separation or map to a 100% of a solid separation colour.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Additional costs may include delivery, artwork, changes, proofs or additional finishing. Artwork must be supplied to our specifications (see above); press ready PDF or JPG format with 3mm bleed. Please read spec sheet before submission. Incorrectly supplied artwork may be rejected. Fix-ups, when accepted, will incur an artwork fee.

TURNAROUND TIMELINES

Turnaround timelines are ex factory and do not include time in transit.

PAYMENTS

All work is COD unless credit has been previously arranged. We accept MasterCard, VISA, B-pay, direct debit and PostPay. Cash payments can be made at our office in Alexandria.

BLACK

• All BLACK text to be left as 100% black unless it is more than 50pt

• For “rich black” in digital printing, please leave it at 100% black.

Files supplied as RGB may not be detected and will print discoloured and dull. We will not take any responsibility for an unexpected result.

COLOR MODE

• All colour modes should be converted to CMYK mode. If documents are to be printed in CMYK (Process), all colours including RGB and Pantones (Spot) must be converted to CMYK before making PDF files

Documents
