Board President Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Is there really anything more fulfilling than knowing that one’s time, talents and resources are making a REAL difference? In 2018, Friends In Deed welcomed 14 new Leaders into the Circles Washtenaw County program while we celebrated the accomplishments of 8 Circle Leaders from 2017. These inaugural Circle Leaders are getting jobs, promotions, achieving education goals, securing housing, and buying homes while at the same time, building and nurturing an authentic and caring community. We could not be happier for them.

We also celebrated a record Giving Tuesday Bed and Crib Drive in 2018, giving comfort and, literally, a soft place to call their own to so many of our neighbors. We welcomed a new Caseworker to the Help Line, continued to help those whose needs were not being met by the safety net in our county, and helped with a record amount of utility shut-off preventions.

As we celebrate 36 years of serving Washtenaw County, we are thankful for all of you and for all of your support of the FID mission for so many years. Together we are lightening each other’s burdens and making a REAL difference.

Thank you for being with us in the past and for looking forward with us to the future.

Sincerely,

2018

us… Pillow fight!

Transportation 2018 Highlights

Expanding Our Impact

In 2018, we worked to refine our programs, consider

and plan for the future, and settle into our new

mission:

Helping People In Need; Building

Community to End Poverty.

We also enjoyed unprecedented support for our

organization. For instance, the Roy & Carol Weber

Endowment Fund ($125,000) was established at the

Ann Arbor Area Community Fund for our benefit, and

we received a $36,000 grant from the Community

Foundation for Southwest Michigan for Circles. We

also obtained our first AmeriCorps VISTA.

Generous

Volunteers

We welcomed Ola Saad as our

new caseworker in 2018.

~~~~
We welcomed Amtheyst Floyd
as our new VISTA.
Folks took selfies at the 2018 Annual Dinner -- a
good time was had by all. Best of all, the event
raised a record amount of funds for Friends In
Deed and its programs.
Successful Events
After 10 years of homelessness,
John was able to make his new
apartment a home with
furniture he received from FID.
Our Helpline helped Ramone
with the cost of tires so that he
could pass a Lyft inspection.
“This Allowed me to have
another reliable form of income.”
We welcomed our second cohort
of Circles Leaders in 2018. They
graduated from training in
November of 2018. They are
now matched with Allies.
