2018 Hoop-A-Thon | Secondary Friday, March 2 at Trinity Christian School

When: Friday, March 2, 2018 Where: Trinity Christian School gymnasium Who: Pre-K (K3 & K4), 8:15-8.45 a.m. / K5, 8:30-9 a.m.

Elementary (Gr. 1-5), 10 a.m.-noon Secondary (Gr. 6-12), 1-2:30 p.m.

Secondary Hoop-A-Thon (NEW and improved!) Please thoroughly read the group and participation requirements for this year’s Hoop-A-Thon event in the Secondary level, as a majority of the rules have changed since last year.

Secondary students are invited to participate as individuals or groups this year to push their class to victory! Hoop-A-Thon will be a competition between classes that will include a show of school spirit, gathering sponsors, and shooting hoops or hula-hooping to earn points for their class. The class with the most points at the end of the week will become the title holder of the School Spirit Stick AND receive a taco bar luncheon. There will be one winning middle school class (grades 6-8) and one winning high school class (grades 9-12).

Requirements to participate in Hoop-A-Thon event on March 2: ● Individual must gather at least 5 legitimate sponsorships in order to participate in Hoop-A-Thon event.● For every $2 collected up-front via sponsors, 1 additional point will be earned. For example, if an

individual raises $50 in sponsorships, the individual begins with 25 points to add to his or her total actual hoops/points scored during the event.

● Individuals will have 5 minutes to shoot as many hoops or earn as many hula-hoop loops as they can.● Any unsportsmanlike conduct may disqualify groups or an individual from the Hoop-A-Thon event and

any hoops earned will be forfeited.

Shoot hoops or hula hoop as an individual: ● Once the individual’s pledge form has been turned in to the Hoop-A-Thon officials, the individual will

have 5 minutes to shoot as many hoops from the free throw line or hula-hoop as many times as he/she can.

● Counters will be provided for both basketball shooters and hula-hoopers.● The individual’s total hoops/baskets or hula-hoop loops will be added to the total class score.● 1 hoop/basket = 1 point● 1 hula-hoop loop= 1 point

Shoot hoops as a group: ● Once each group member turns in his or her pledge form to the Hoop-A-Thon officials, the group will

have 5 minutes to shoot as many hoops from the free throw line as they can.● Group members must be from the same class, but any teacher, coach, or staff member is welcome to

participate with any class.● 1 hoop/basket = 1 point● Prizes will be awarded on a class basis, not an individual basis.● Not all class members must shoot, but all class members must be on the court during their class’s turn

● Groups must designate their own rebounders from within their class.

Prizes! Students must gain sponsorship in order to participate in the Hoop-A-Thon event on March 2. To be eligible for the class prizes, students MUST turn in their sponsor forms to their homeroom teachers by Wednesday, February 28 at noon and submit sponsorship money by Friday, March 16, 2018. Incomplete submissions will affect eligibility for prizes.

About Hoop-A-Thon Our Hoop-A-Thon is a fun, one-day, school-wide fundraising event that benefits Trinity Christian School’s general fund. Secondary students gather one-time donations to participate in Hoop-A-Thon. On the day of the event, students shoot as many basketball hoops or hula-hoop as many times as they can during a 5-minute period. Students are encouraged to follow up with their sponsors to collect their Hoop-A-Thon funds. Throughout the event, students are encouraged to do their best and have fun!

Sponsorship Our goal as a school is for each student to gather a minimum of 5 sponsors at $10 each, or $50 total in sponsorships. If all our students and families work together in gathering sponsors, we can reach our goal of $15,000 to benefit Trinity’s mission and student programs!

All donations from student Hoop-A-Thon sponsors may be collected prior to the event and returned with the sponsor form. Students may also choose to follow up with sponsors after the Hoop-A-Thon event if sponsors choose to donate after the event.

Sponsors may also submit their one-time donations or pledge totals online by visiting TCSWV.org/HoopAThon2018 and clicking “Donate.” Please be sure sponsors leave a memo in the special instructions section with the Student Name and Grade of whom they sponsor. Other Ways to Support 2018 Hoop-A-Thon Parents and student Hoop-A-Thon sponsors are encouraged to attend the event to support our students doing their best! Parents may also choose one of the following ways to support:

● Pep Packs: For just $15, students will receive a Hoop-A-Thon t-shirt, a Trinity bracelet, atemporary tattoo, and a Warriors rally towel!

● Holla for a Dolla: For just $1 each, send a “holla” out to your child to encourage them to dotheir best during their time at the hoop!

● Cheer Them On!: Join us in the gymnasium to cheer on our students to success! No admissionis required to attend.

Pep Pack Order Form 2018 Hoop-A-Thon

Hoop-A-Thon pep packs are back! This pack will equip students will everything they need to cheer on their classmates as they shoot hoops and hula hoop! Pep packs are just $15 each.

Please complete the information below if you would like your child to receive a 2018 Hoop-A-Thon Pep Pack. Order forms must be returned to your child’s elementary teacher or homeroom teacher by Wednesday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day!) to guarantee your child a pep pack. Checks are made payable to “Trinity Christian School,” memo “Hoop-A-Thon.”

Pep packs will be delivered to students who ordered them on Hoop-A-Thon day, Friday, March 2 via their teachers or homeroom teachers. If you have any questions, please email kmorgan@tcswv.org.
