children, tweens and teens, as well as their parents and teachers. Excellent communication skills, media skills and a

strong public service orientation are a must. The Young Adult Librarian is responsible for YA programming;

collection development of YA and Teen (grades 6 -12) materials; some children’s programming; and acts as an

assistant to the Children’s Services Librarian. This is a full-time 40 hour a week position with excellent benefits that

requires a minimum of one evening a week and two Sundays a month. The salary range is $43,680 - $46,119. New

Milford Public Library serves a community of about 27,000 in Connecticut’s geographically largest town and is the

largest library in a hub of smaller communities. Familiarity with the Evergreen ILS and consortia experience is

preferred. Social media skills, familiarity with makerspaces, technology and digital literacy knowledge are all

important qualifications. Creating relationships with the public schools and the library media specialists will be an

ERIC Cataloging Specialist/ twentybridge/ Herndon VA area / Summary: The Cataloging Specialist creates

digital ERIC records using an Internet-based workflow system for journal and non-journal content;

completes metadata fields following the ERIC Style Guide for descriptive or subject cataloging; writes

abstracts of content as necessary; meets daily production targets and participates in team meetings.

Principal Duties and Essential Job Functions: Produce, edit, modify, and quality check bibliographic

records; create accurate cataloging, metadata, and abstracts or indexing according to established rules

and procedures for the ERIC database. Write original abstracts based on document full text; verify

accuracy and readability of author abstracts and correct/develop to meet ERIC guidelines. Participate in

project activities and work groups to support database production and internal/external customer

needs. Work in team-oriented, production environment to meet quantity and quality goals.

Qualifications:

• Combination of recent experience and/or course work in cataloging, abstracting, editing,

proofreading

• Familiarity with universal cataloging standards of bibliographic databases preferred

• Experience in database search and retrieval

• Must demonstrate strong abstracting skills

• Meticulous attention to detail

• Knowledge of the field of education, familiarity with subject indexing and the ERIC Thesaurus of

Descriptors, and/or experience using the ERIC database are a plus

• Ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team environment

• Ability to work quickly, with a high level of quality, to meet project production goals

• Candidate should be a self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, responsible team-player

and exhibit exceptional communication skills

• Ability to participate in initial training and biannual meetings in Herndon, VA area

Education: Bachelor’s degree (in Education, Information Science, or related area) plus related experience
