For more information: go.osu.edu/cfaesdiversity. preble.osu.edu 2018 PREBLE COUNTY PROJECT GUIDELINES PREBLE COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR JUDGING AND EXHIBIT REQUIREMENTS The following are requirements for projects that are to be evaluated (judged) and later exhibited at the Preble County Fair. Project Evaluation/Judging: All 4-H projects will be judged in JULY. Projects MUST be judged prior to being exhibited at the Preble County Junior Fair. In addition, breathing livestock project exhibits will require a fair entry (due June 17). Projects must be judged during one of the appropriate times/dates listed below. Special Interest: Each project will be assigned a specific time at Special Interest Project Judging in July. “Early” judging will be held in early July for those who cannot attend on Special Interest Project Judging day. Participants should follow the judging and exhibit guidelines closely and carefully because the final project grade will be determined by: a) an individual interview, b) project presentation and c) completed project records. Those with special interest projects should bring an educational display that communicates the work the members did in the project. This could be a poster, binder/scrapbook or display. Members should also be prepared to discuss his or her project work with the judge. Food and Nutrition and Clothing Projects: Each project will be assigned a specific time in July for food and nutrition and clothing judging. “Early” judging will be held in July for those who cannot attend on the regular judging day. Participants should follow the judging and exhibit guidelines closely and carefully because the final project grade will be determined by: a) an individual interview, b) project presentation, and c) completed project records. Ohio State Fair Representatives: Youth who participate at the Ohio State Fair should review additional requirements found in the State Fair Guide Book which can be found at www.ohio4h.org. This information will also be distributed to State Fair representatives along with tickets in the packets they receive after selections are made at pre-Fair judging. Livestock Project Interviews: Livestock project interviews will be held in July during the livestock skill-a-thon and on additional days as necessary. Members will have the opportunity to sign up for a specific time. THIS IS THE INTERVIEW PROCESS ONLY - YOU DO NOT BRING ANIMALS. If a member has a conflict and will not be able to make it to the scheduled evaluation/judging, he/she MUST call the Extension office and confirm an alternate time for judging. All 4-H members must participate in a livestock interview judging. In the livestock project requirements below, judging refers to the project interviews. Members should refer to the Preble County Fair Book for specific fair requirements. Early Project Judging: “Early” judging will be held for those who cannot attend regular project judging. Members should contact the Extension office to arrange a specific time for early judging. Fair Entry Requirement: Projects being an exhibited at the Preble County Fair require a fair entry. PROJECT EVALUTION/JUDGING GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Members should be familiar with materials in project book(s) for still and livestock interview judging. ALL MEMBERS MUST BRING PROJECT RECORDS (book and/or written record). Animal projects must bring required records to the interview judging. Project records MAY NOT be shared. New records must be kept each year- - -preference is to purchase a new project book each year.-- -with the exception of certain project books which are designed for multi-year use. The member's name and current calendar year should appear in INK on the front of the record.

CLOVERBUD REQUIREMENTS

(Age 5 AND in Kindergarten, through 2nd

grade on January 1, current year)

710 – CLOVERBUD All 4-H Cloverbud members will participate in activity-oriented learning experiences under the guidance of a designated adult 4-H volunteer and not be required to complete a project book. Example learning experiences are available in the Cloverbud Curriculum Books (710 & 711).

Evaluation: All 4-H Cloverbud members are invited to participate in a “Show & Tell” session on Thursday of the Preble County Fair. The event is held in the Toney Building at 1:30 p.m. Members should bring an item from their learning activities to show. A poster describing their Cloverbud experience is also appropriate. Encouragement will be given to continue learning rather than a project grade. Fair Exhibit: All 4-H Cloverbud members meeting enrollment requirements may exhibit at the fair in their club booth. Cloverbuds may exhibit at the fair without going through the interview judging process

This streamlined version of four previously separate publications allows for multiple projects and can be used by members at all levels. All levels should use the #117R Beef Resource Handbook. Multiple projects may use only one #117 project manual as long as separate records are kept for each animal.

CLOTHING General Guidelines

1. Each member must model the garment constructed (except Sew for Others where the item constructed is worn by another person) or assembled

2. Each member must bring project book, completed according to the project guidelines (MPG) in the front of each book. Members are encouraged to select projects on the basis of their wardrobe needs and level of sewing skill.

3. A member can model each project only once. EXAMPLE – Tops for Tweens project cannot be worn with the Sports Clothes project, or vice versa.

4. Some projects (if not specifically specified as a one year project) can be taken for more than one year. If taken again, the project must expand to new and more challenging skills and learning experiences.

5. Complete and submit “narration” card for Fair style revue at Pre-Fair Clothing Judging.

The focus of the photography projects is on “images captured from life” by film or digital cameras, processed, printed, mounted, and displayed as two dimensional prints.
