We champion hope.We champion love.We champion the Wideexpanse of the human spirit. The Chemainus Theatre Festival is a special place where people come together to immerse themselves in story and song. From all over Vancouver Island and further afield, theatre lovers are drawn to the energy, intimacy andquality of live theatre in Chemainus and the beauty ofthe Cowichan region. We constantly hear patrons marvel at the professionalism, warmth and kindness of theChemainus Theatre Festival Experience. In 2018, we celebrate unlikely lovers and dreamers. It’s a celebration of hope and resilience – an immigrant’s heartfelt comedic story in Kim’s Convenience, a broken musician’s reignited passion in the Broadway smash Once, a pitchy, bombastic singer who Gloriously delighted thousands, four sisters determined to shine in Little Women, quizzical charmers in Outside Mullingar and desperate teenagers longing for belonging in Grease. This collection of shows celebrates the moxie and determination to which many aspire – to make the most of what we’ve been given, share our lives with one another and, if we might be so blessed, light the world with love, laughter and song.
It’s a pleasure producing theatre in the heart of Vancouver Island by the side of the sea. We invite you to join us in the colourful journey through story and savour the season at the Chemainus Theatre Festival.

You’ll get more than you bargained
for at Mr. Kim’s downtown Toronto
convenience store. Along with his
enormous variety of groceries and
knick-knacks, he dispenses amusing
folk wisdom, quizzical Korean trivia,
and a peculiar type of pride. The
hilarity and the business may be short
lived if a big box store invades the
neighbourhood, his daughter rejects
the family shop, and his prodigal son
returns. Is there a future for Kim’s
Convenience?

the comedic true story of theWorst singerin the World.
Everyone agreed that she couldn’t
carry a tune – except Florence Foster
Jenkins, as recently depicted in the
Hollywood movie by Meryl Streep. She
had no idea her operatic talent was an
illusion. Throughout her life, the blissfully
ignorant soprano never stopped bringing
great pleasure to her adoring audiences.
Discover why thousands clamoured to
hear her at charity recitals, extravagant
balls, bizarre recording sessions, and
the ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall.

has happily watched 42 years crawl
by while his headstrong neighbour,
Rosemary, watched him from afar. Now
disinheritance, a land feud between
families and romantic catastrophe
loom large. The two introverted misfits
can’t avoid the heartbreaking, funny
and deeply moving disruption that
brings them closer together than they
