Rescheduled FSQA Training/Testing set for March 8
2018 Sioux County Fair Book Updates
Premise ID’s required for all Swine Exhibitors
Derby Swine Weigh-in
New Swine Classes for 2018
Derby Swine Weigh-in will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on April 7 at the Sioux County Fair-
grounds. We will be using USDA tags for the weigh-in. If State DNA tags are available, we will have
those at the weigh-in also. If you have any questions please contact the Extension Office at 712-737-
IDALS is tightening Swine regulations to require all swine exhibitors to have a
premise ID for the farms where their animals are raised. If you enter one or 12 animals,
you need to have a premise ID. If you do not have one, please click on this link to access the application.
http://www.iowaagriculture.gov/animalIndustry/pdf/premiseIDapp2.pdf Your premise ID will be REQUIRED
on the paperwork you fill out at the fair so please have your number with you at check-in.
All swine will need to have the USDA tag (as pictured on the
right) or ear notches entered into 4HOnline. If you identify your
animals with Swine DNA tags for State Fair, you also will need
their ear notches entered into the identification. IDALS isn’t rec-
ognizing the DNA tags as official.
There are a two new class additions for the 2018 Swine Show at the Sioux County Youth Fair.
Prospect Class
In the past couple of years, we’ve had a number of animals in the market division that have weighed in with
a very light weight. These animals are not ready to market and the consensus has been that they should
not be judged as a market ready animal. This gives exhibitors the opportunity to show their State Fair, Clay
County Fair and Aksarben Livestock Show animals at the Sioux County Youth Fair, without being penal-
ized for the small size of your animal. All animals weighing 230 pounds or less will be moved into this
class. You will still enter your animals into the market division in FairEntry. The classification will be decid-
ed after weigh-ins on Check-in day at the fair grounds. There will be no division of breed or sex on
with these animals, they will all be judged in one class. In the event that there are more than the desired
number of animals in this class, it will be the superintendents discretion as to how to break the classes.
Carcass Class
While this was technically a late addition to the fair classes last year, we are officially adding the class to
our rules this year. Carcass class is a class that anyone exhibiting Market Swine can enter. This is for ani-
mals that have not been weighed in as Derby Swine. Animals must be entered in this class by June 15.
They will be scanned at the same time as the Derby Swine class. The top two will received Champion and
Reserve Champion ribbons for their animals.
