Dear Parishioners,
On this !ird Sunday of Easter, St. Peter proclaims the wonders of the Lord. !e su#ering Messiah is raised from the dead and has been glori$ed. !is Jesus is our intercessor, and our o#ering for sin. He is our peace.
Bishop Parkes has announced new clergy assignments for priests of the diocese e#ective this spring and summer. !ere is no change to the assignments here at Prince of Peace. If you are interested in learning about the changes, you can go to our diocesan website, www.dosp.org. Please keep in prayer Deacons Anthony Astrab, Joshua Hare and Fredy Medina who were ordained this weekend (April 14) as transitional deacons anticipating priesthood ordination next year. Also, please pray for Deacons Kyle Bell, Louis Turcotte and Timothy Williford who will be ordained priests for our diocese May 19 at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, St. Petersburg. You are invited to the ordination Mass or to watch via live web streaming on the diocesan website. !e Lord is blessing our diocese with vocations to the priesthood and we are grateful.
!ank you to those who joined Team POP for the Walk for Life 2018 – On the Bay, at Ben T. Davis Beach this past Saturday morning. !e event created awareness and helped raise funds for four Foundations of Life Pregnancy Centers (Tampa, St. Petersburg, Spring Hill, Dade City) and Knights Women’s Center in Tampa that empower women facing a crisis pregnancy by counseling them on options for birth or adoption, and providing education and support for a baby’s $rst year of life. Pope Francis has said, “We need a church capable of walking at people’s side, of doing more than simply listening to them; a church that accompanies them on their journey.” !is is exactly the mission of Foundations of Life Pregnancy Center. Our support allows them to accompany mothers-to-be through their pregnancy journey with respect, compassion, and charity. For more information about how you can support them go to their website: www.foundationso%ife.org.
May our Risen Lord bless you and your families – Father Kovanis

THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
1. During the Easter Season, the First Reading at Sunday Mass is not from the Old Testament; rather, it is from which New Testament book? ~Revelation ~Hebrews ~John’s Gospel ~Acts of the Apostles
2. #e Polish nun canonized in 2000, St. Faustina Kowalska, originated this devotion ~Divine Mercy ~Benediction ~Centering Prayer
3. How long is the Easter Season? ~8 days ~40 days ~50 days
Welcoming Our Newly Initiated Members of Prince of Peace
We welcome into our community, John Higdon and Meghan Billick. #ey were already baptized in another ecclesial community and were received in to the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. #ey also received their Con$rmation and First Holy Communion. #e Church rejoices with them and continues praying for them as they begin their lives as fully initiated Roman Catholics. #ey will now start the Period of Mystagogy (Post-Baptismal Catechesis). Mystagogia is a Greek word which refers to the mysteries or sacraments. It means deepening their immersion into the sacraments of initiation they have just received.
Mystagogia is for all! Each one of us, along with our newly initiated members, are invited to listen “with new ears” to the gospel message each Sunday and to become more aware of the Eucharist in our lives so that our hearts are transformed.
MYSTAGOGIA: As a newly initiated Catholic, they continue their formation and education in the Period of the Post Baptismal Catechesis, which is also called Mystagogy. #is period continues at least until Pentecost. During the period, the newly baptized members re&ect on their experiences at the Easter Vigil and continue to learn more about the Scriptures, the Sacraments, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. In addition they re&ect on how they will serve Christ and help in the Church's mission and outreach activities. Retrieved from the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), USCCB

CATHOLIC IQ ANSWERS:
1. Readings from the Acts of the Apostles provide us with a sense of the enthusiasm that the early Church had for proclaiming the Risen Christ to others.
2. St. Faustina (1905-1938) was given an overwhelming insight of God’s mercy $owing through the heart of Christ. We celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday on the %rst Sunday following Easter.
3. Easter Sunday marks both the end of the Holy Triduum and the beginning of the Great Season of Easter, which lasts until the Solemnity of Pentecost 50 days later.
