A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE TAMASSEE DAR SCHOOL UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE ORGANIZATION FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to join Tamassee DAR School in celebrating its centennial in 2019; and

Whereas, Tamassee DAR School is a nonprofit, nondenominational, Christ-centered children and family service organization located in Oconee County at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains; and

Whereas, Tamassee DAR School’s mission is to partner with children and families to overcome life’s obstacles through campus and community-based programs that nurture loving homes, inspire wholeness, expand educational horizons, and train exceptional citizens, and it is known for its holistic approach in serving the emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental health needs of children; and

Whereas, the organization serves infants to youth twenty-one years of age through its various programs, and its services include a day care, residential care, Anson G. and Marian Beardslee Raymond Middle School Academy, learning resource center, LifeBridge program, and foster care program; and

Whereas, Tamassee DAR School was established in 1919 by the South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution, with twenty-three girls living and studying in the South Carolina

Calhoun Hall building. The initial one hundred ten acres were provided by three families from the community; and

Whereas, over the years, Tamassee DAR School has experienced tremendous growth in its programs and population; and

Whereas, today, Tamassee DAR School is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation and licensed by the Department of Social Services of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the organization uses a 3-5-7 Model as its approach for permanency work with children and youth in its residential program; and

Whereas, having received statewide recognition for its excellence in stewardship, Tamassee DAR School was one of only ten recipients to receive the Angel Award from the South Carolina secretary of state during the year of its presentation to the school; and

Whereas, looking toward the future, Tamassee DAR School continues to realize its master plan, which was developed in 2013 and includes projects such as a new central playground, new sidewalks, prayer garden, preservation of its historic buildings, and much more for the campus; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the dedication and commitment that Tamassee DAR School has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Tamassee DAR School upon the occasion of its one hundredth anniversary and commend the organization for its many years of service to children and families in the State of South Carolina.

Whereas, be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Tamassee DAR School.
