I. THEVISIONOFEVANGELCLASSICALCHRISTIANSCHOOL

OurvisionistocontinuetogrowastheLordprovides,usingourgiftsandtalentstoserveasmanystudentsinourareathatdesireaclassicalChristianeducation.

A. MISSIONSTATEMENTEvangelClassicalChristianSchool(ECCS)seekstoglorifyGodbybringingcovenantchildrentospiritualmaturitythroughaclassicalChristianeducationandbiblicaltrainingandteachingusingaChristianworld-viewasafoundationforalllearningwithacommitmenttoprayerandtheReformedFaith.

B. GRADESK-5through12thgrade

SCHOOLDAYTheschoolopensat7:00a.m.withBeforeHoursCarefrom7:00-7:40a.m.Thebellwillringat7:40todismissallstudentstotheirclassrooms.Studentsaremorepreparedforthedayandtendtoworkbetterwhentheyarrivebetween7:40and7:50am.Morningactivitiesbeginat7:40a.m.andclassesbeginimmediatelyat8:00a.m.TheGrammarschool(Kindergartenthrough5thgrades)dayendsat1:00p.m.

D. ORGANIZATIONALSTRUCTUREECCSisaministryofEvangelChurchP.C.A.andisgoverneddirectlybyaschoolboardallofwhomwillbeappointedbytheSessionofEvangelChurch.TheBoard’sauthoritywillbedelegatedtoitbythechurchSession,whichretainstherighttodissolvetheBoarduponatwo-thirdsvote,thusdirectlyassertingitsauthorityoverECCS.

E. ADMINISTRATIONECCSAdministrationconsistsoftheInterimHeadofSchoolwhooverseestheschoolprogramaswellasbothprincipalsandthedean;theGrammarPrincipalwhoadministersandmanagestheGrammarSchool,After-HoursCare,andtheGrammarCo-curricularEnrichmentProgram;andtheLogic&RhetoricPrincipal,whoadministersandmanagestheLogic&RhetoricSchoolandtheL&RCo-curricularEnrichmentProgram.OtheradministrativepersonnelincludetheAssistantstothePrincipals,AdmissionsDirector,GuidanceCounselor,EvangelClassicalPreschoolDirector,L&ROfficeManager,GrammarOfficeManager,BusinessOfficeManager,BusinessOfficeAssistant,andBefore/After-HoursDirector.

F. CURRICULUMThecurriculumwillbeestablishedbythePrincipals,andBoardCurriculumCommittee,whichwilldrawfromestablishedclassicalschoolcurricula,includingbutnotlimitedtoLogosClassicalSchoolandHillsdaleAcademy.TheNASBisthepreferredtranslationoftheBibleformostclassandmemorywork.

G. FINANCESECCSisfinanciallyself-supporting.Tuition,fundraisinganddonationsfromthosefavoringclassicalandChristianeducationaretheprimarysourcesofincome.

H. INSURANCEECCSprovidesAccidentInsurancecoverageforallstudentswhiletheyareonschoolgroundsandwhileattendingfieldtripsandotherschoolsponsoredactivities.

I. AFFILIATIONSEvangelClassicalChristianSchoolisanaccreditedmemberoftheAssociationofClassicalandChristianSchools(ACCS).Becauseourgoalsandphilosophiesareinherentlydifferentfromgovernmentschools,ECCSwillnotpursuestateaccreditation.ECCSdoesnotacceptanystateorfederalfunding.ACCSaccreditationdoesnotrequireteacherstobestatecertified.ECCSrequiresallteacherstohaveaminimumofaBachelor’sdegree.ECCSwillactivelyrecruitteacherswithclassicalexperience,graduatedegrees,anddegreesthatmostreflectthesubjectstobetaught.

J. PTFMISSIONSTATEMENTTheEvangelClassicalChristianSchool(ECCS)ParentTeacherFellowship(PTF)supportsthemissionofECCSthroughprayer,communication,serviceandfellowship.Weseektobuildcommunitybyencouragingandpromotingparentparticipationinschoolactivitiesandevents.AllparentsareinvitedtojoinandparticipateinallPTFmeetingsandevents.

K. NON-DISCRIMINATIONPOLICYEvangelClassicalChristianSchooladmitsstudentsofanyrace,color,ornationalandethnicorigintoallrights,privileges,programs,andactivitiesgenerallyaccordedormade

availabletostudentsoftheschool.EvangelClassicalChristianSchooldoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofrace,color,nationalorethnicorigininadministrationofitseducationalpoliciesoradmissionandhiringpractices.

L. SPECIALNEEDS ECCSisneitherstaffednorqualifiedtodiagnoseormeetspecialneedsofstudentswithcertain

specificdisabilities.Somelearningdisabilitiescategorizedasmildmayallowforcertainclassroomaccommodationstobemade,butalldiagnoseddisabilitiesmustbestatedonthestudentapplicationordocumentedinthestudent’sfileupondiagnosesifthechildisalreadyaccepted.Allrequestedaccommodationsmustbediscussedandagreeduponbyschoolofficialspriortostudent’sfinalacceptanceand/orplacementintoaclass.

III. THEBOARD

A. GOVERNANCEECCSshallbegovernedbytheBoard.

B. AUTHORITYOFTHEBOARDTheBoardshallbevestedwithitsgoverningauthoritybythechurchSession.Unlessotherwisenoted,alldecisionsoftheBoardshallbesubjecttotheauthorityoftheSessionasstatedin“OrganizationalStructure”above.

C. APPOINTEDBOARDMEMBERSTheBoardshallconsistofindividualsapprovedandappointedbytheSessionandwillalwaysincludeatleastoneactivememberoftheSession.

D. BOARDMEETINGSTheBoardshallholdatleastonemeetingeachcalendarquarter.WhiletheBoardmeetingswillbeheldinclosedsession,teachersorparentsofanECCSstudentmayrequesttoaddresstheBoardatascheduledmeetingbywrittenrequestatleastoneweekpriortoaregularlyscheduledmeeting.

IV. STATEMENTOFFAITHANDSECONDARYDOCTRINES(FROMECCSBY-LAWS)ThisstatementoffaithcontainstheessentialbiblicaldoctrinesthatguidetheministryofEvangelClassicalChristianSchool.EvangelClassicalChristianSchoolisaministryofEvangelPresbyterianChurch(EPC),withwhose“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”weagreeandoperateinaccordance.TheaforementionedEPCdocumentamplifiesItemCintheECCSStatementofFaithbelow.Theprimarydoctrinesbelowdefinetheperspectivefromwhichallclasseswillbetaughtandareoneofthetoolsthatwillbeusedinthehiringoffacultyandadministration.IssuesnotmentionedinthisinthisstatementoffaithorspecificallyaddressedintheEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”aretobeconsideredsecondarydoctrinesandwillnotbeemphasizedintheteachingoftheschool.Thesesecondarydoctrineissuesareimportant,andtheymayariseuponoccasionwithinthecurriculum;EvangelClassicalChristianSchoolrecognizesthatChristiansareatlibertytoreachdifferentconclusionsregardingthem.Theschool’srecognitionthatChristiansdisagreeonthesetopics,however,shouldnotbeinterpretedtomeanthattheschoolbelievesthatthereisnorightanswertoquestionsabouttheseissues.Withthiscaveatinmindandsothatdoctrinaldisputesdonotcauseirreparabledivisionwithintheschool,classroomdiscussionofsecondarydoctrineswillclearlydelineatetheReformedviewofthePresbyterianChurchofAmericawhileencouragingstudentstorespectfullyinvestigateandarticulatealternateviewsheldbyotherChristiantraditions.ECCSteacherswillmodelrespectfuldialogueandencouragestudentstofollowtheexampleoftheBereanswho“...receivedthewordwithgreateagerness,andexaminedtheScripturesdailytoseewhetherifwhatPaulsaidwastrue.”(Acts17:11,NIV).Studentswillalsobeencouragedtofollowupanyquestionstheyhaveregardingclassroomdiscussionwiththeirparentsandpastor.

A. SOVEREIGNTYOFGODGod’ssovereigntycontrolsallthatoccursinHisworldandinHischurch.Hisplansandpurposesalwaysprevail;nothingcanthwartthem.

GOD’SCREATIONOFTHEWORLD,MANKIND,ANDMARRIAGETheTriuneGod(Father,Son,andHolySpirit)alonehasexistedfrometernitypastandinHiswisdomdecidedtocreatetheuniversefromnothing.Godspokeanditcameintoexistence.HumanitydidnotevolvefromlowerlifeformsbutwascreatedbyGod.MankindwascreatedwithdignityinthathewasmadeinGod'simageandwascreatedinhumility;ourpurposeistoglorifyGodandtoenjoyHimforever.SeealsoEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”ItemB:“StatementontheSanctityofHumanLife.”

Godpurposefullycreatedbothmaleandfemale,andHecreatedeachgendertobedistinctfromtheother,thoughequalintheirreflectionofHisimage.Rejectionofone’soriginalanatomicalsexisarejectionoftheimageofGodwithinthatperson.

GodestablishedholymarriagebetweenonemanandonewomantoreflecttherelationshipofChristwithHisChurchandtobethebasicunitofhumansociety.Webelievethattheword“marriage”hasonlyonemeaning:theunitingofonemanandonewomaninanexclusiveunion,asdeterminedintheScriptures.Forthisreason,itisonlyinamarriagebetweenonemanandonewomanthatGodsanctionssexualrelationships.SeealsoEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”ItemC:“StatementonMarriage,Gender,andSexuality.”

D. FALLOFMANKINDAllmankindparticipatedinAdam'sfallfromhisoriginalsinlessstateandarethustotallydepravedandlostinsin.

ECCSisfinanciallyresponsiblebyassuringthattuitionandfundraisingreceiptscover100%oftheschool’sannualexpenses.

ECCSseekstokeeptuitionaffordableforECCSfamiliesbycommitting(1)toseekoutsidesponsorsanddonationsand(2)tospendtuitiondollarsonlyonexpensesthattheECCSBoardconsiderstobeessentialtotheprovisionofanexcellentclassicalandChristianeducation.ExpensesthatarenotessentialtobutmaysupplementourcoreeducationalmissionwillbefundedonlythroughECCSdonationsandfundraisers.

K. PARENTCONDUCTSTANDARDS1. EXPECTATIONS

Justasweexpectteacherstoconductthemselvesinacourteousandrespectfulmannerwhencommunicatingwithparents,likewiseparentswillbeexpectedtoconductthemselvesinacourteousandrespectfulmannerwheninteractingwithECCSfaculty,staff,andadministrators,aswellaswiththosewholeadextracurricularactivitiesincludingrepresentativesofEvangelChristianSchool(ECS)whetherinperson,throughe-mail,oronsocialmedia.

2. DEFINITIONS“Abusiveconduct”isdefinedasrudeorunseemlyconduct,whichistheantithesisofChristianloveasdescribedinICorinthians13:4-5.“Rude,”asdefinedbyMerriamWebsterisoffensiveinmanneroraction(i.e.,discourteous).“Unseemly”isdefinedbythesameresourceasthatwhichisnotaccordingwithestablishedstandardsofgoodformortaste(e.g.,unseemlybickering)orthatwhichisnotsuitablefortimeorplace(i.e.,inappropriate).

IX. ATTENDANCEANDPUNCTUALITY

A. ATTENDANCE/ABSENCESRegularattendanceisessentialfortheacademicsuccessofGrammarSchoolstudents.Duetogenerousamountsofholidayswithintheschoolcalendar,schoolshouldbemissedonlywhenabsolutelynecessary.

1. Attendancewillberecordedineachclassroomatthebeginningoftheschoolday.

2. Studentsarelimitedtonomorethanfourteen(14)absencesperyear,excusedorunexcused,inordertopromotetothenextgrade.Exceptionswouldbemadeonlyincasesofextenuatingcircumstancessuchasextendedillnesses,andwillbemadeonacase-by-casebasisbytheBoard.

3. Studentswhoareabsentfromtheirclasswillbemarked“unexcused”untilanoteofexplanationisreceivedbytheECCSGrammaroffice.ParentsarerequiredtosendanoteofexplanationtotheECCSofficethedayafteranabsence.Shouldanotenotbereceivedwithinthree(3)schooldaysfromthedateoftheabsence,theabsencewillremainunexcused.

4. Examplesofacceptableexcusesforabsencesareillness,familyemergencies,school-sanctionedevents,andotherexceptionspre-approvedbytheECCSBoard.

5. Ifastudentistobeabsentforanyforeseenreasonsuchasfamilytravel,appointments,etc.,parentsmustcontacttheGrammarSchoolofficepriortotheexpectedabsencetorequestapre-approvedabsenceortheabsencewillbeconsideredunexcused.

a. Forfamilytrips,anemailmustbesenttotheGrammarPrincipaldetailingthedatesandreasonfortheforeseenabsencepriortotheabsenceforapproval.

b. OncetheforeseenabsencehasbeenapprovedbytheGrammarPrincipal,teacherswillgivetheworkthatwillbemissedtothestudent.

c. Discretionaryabsences,suchasvacations,maynotbepre-approvedforstudentswhohavealreadymissedenoughdaysthattheyareonpacetoexceedthemaximumallowedabsencesfortheschoolyear.Forexample,ifastudenthasalreadymissednine(9)daysthefirstsemester,afour(4)dayvacationinFebruarywouldnotbeexcused,asitwouldputthestudentatgreatriskforexceedingthemaximumoffourteen(14)daysabsent.

6. Make-upworkwillnotbegivenforanydaymissedduetoanunexcusedabsence.Anygradedwork,includinghomeworkcollectedortests/quizzesadministeredduringaclassfromwhichthestudenthasanunexcusedabsencewillberecordedaszerointhegradebook.

7. Parentswillreceivenotificationfromtheofficeaftertwounexcusedabsenceswithinasemester.Followingfiveunexcusedabsences,aconferenceisrequiredbetweentheparentsandtheprincipal.

8. Ifanabsenceduetoanillnessisfourormoreconsecutivedays,adoctor’sexcusemustbeprovidedfortheabsencestobeexcused.

9. Ifregularabsencesoccurforsimpleillnesssuchasaheadacheorstomachache,adoctor’sexcusewillberequiredafterthethirdsuchabsences.

10. Anytimeastudentmissesschoolduetoappointments,suchasdoctor,dentist,ororthodonticappointments,anexcusefromthedoctor’sofficeshouldbereturnedtotheschool.Studentswhomissschoolforsuchappointmentsshouldattendschooluntiltheymustleavefortheappointmentandshouldreturntoschoolaftertheappointmentconcludesifpossible.

Sign-in/Sign-outProcedures

Studentsarrivingatschoollaterthan8:30a.m.mustbesignedinattherespectiveofficebythestudent’sparentoranauthorizedadult.Studentsmustbesignedoutbythestudent’sparentorauthorizedadultinordertobeallowedtoleavetheschoolgroundspriortoregulardismissal.Studentsmustbeinclass½day(i.e.2.5hoursinthegrammarschool)tobeconsideredpresentforthatday.

C. ACADEMICSECCSoperatesontheclassicalmodel,incorporatingelementsofgrammar,logic,andrhetoricacrosseverycourseandgradelevel.WhileincorporatingallelementsoftheTrivium,grammarteacherswillfocusprimarilyonthemethodologiesofthegrammarstage,i.e.,songs,chants,repetition,andjingles.ECCSstudentsareexpectedtostriveforacademicexcellence.Whilerecognizingthatallchildrenlearndifferently,studentswillbeencouragedtodevelopself-disciplineintheirworkandstudyhabits.OurgoalistoleadchildrentoloveGodwithalltheirheart,strength,soulandmind.

Theprincipalmayrequirerestitution,janitorialwork,parentalattendanceduringtheschooldaywiththeirchild,spanking,orotherappropriatemeasures.Ifcorporalpunishmentisdeemednecessary,theprincipalwillcalltheparentsintotheofficetoadministerthepunishmenttotheirchild.However,theprincipalreservestherighttoadministercorporalpunishmentwithouttheparent’sattendance.

Withineithersemesteroftheschoolyear,ifastudentreceivesdisciplinefromtheprincipalforanyreason,thefollowingaccountingwillbeobserved:

a. Thefirsttwotimesastudentissenttotheprincipalfordisciplinehis/herparentswillbecontactedandappraisedofthedetailsofthevisit.Theprincipalwillseektheparents'assistanceandsupportinavertingfurtherproblems.

b. Ameetingofthestudent’sparents,teachers,andtheprincipalwillfollowthethirdofficevisitandtheBoardwillbenotified.

d. IfafifthofficevisitisrequiredtheBoardwillbeapprisedandthestudentwillbeexpelled.

3. EXPULSIONTheECCSBoardrealizesthatexpellingastudentisaveryseriousmatterandshouldalwaysbecarefullyconsideredonacase-by-casebasis.Forgivenessandrestorationarefundamentaltoouroveralldisciplinepolicy.However,shouldastudentandhisparentsbeunabletoeliminatebehaviorproblemsbeforeafifthofficevisitisrequired,thestudentwillbeexpelled.Expulsiondoesnotreleaseafamilyfromtheirfinancialresponsibilitiesandtheremainingannualtuitionwillremaindueuponexpulsion.

4. RE-ADMITTANCEAnexpelledstudentcannotapplyforreadmissionforoneyearfollowinganexpulsion.Shouldtheexpelledstudentdesirere-admittancetoECCSthefollowingyear,THEBOARDwillmakeadecisionbasedon,butnotlimitedto,thecircumstancessurroundingtheexpulsion,thestudent'scurrentattitudeasitrelatestothereasonforexpulsionasdeterminedbyaninterviewbyapanelofBoardmembersandadministrators,andthecircumstancesatthetimeofre-application.

5. SERIOUSMISCONDUCTShouldastudentcommitanactwithseriousconsequencestheprincipalmayby-passtheoffice-visitprocedureandsuspendorexpelthestudentimmediately.Examplesofsuchseriousmisconductinclude,butarenotlimitedto,actsofendangeringthelivesofstudentsorstaffmembers,grossviolence,vandalismtoschoolfacilities,orviolationsofcivilorcriminallaw.Studentsmaybesubjecttoschooldisciplineforseriousmisconductthatoccursoutsideschoolhoursandsuspectedviolationsofthelawwillbereportedtotheauthorities.

6. FOOD,CHEWINGGUM,ANDDRINKS

Studentsarenotallowedtochewgumoncampus.Foodanddrinkmaybeconsumedonlyatanappropriatesnacktimeandasdesignatedbytheteacher.GrammarstudentsmayNOTusemicrowavesoranykitchenappliances.After-Hours

OFFICEETIQUETTESinceteachersarenotexpectedtopersonallyaccompanyeachstudenttotheoffice,certainguidelinesaretobefollowedtoensurethatthestudentsusetheofficecorrectly:

1. Studentsarenotallowedbehindofficecountersatanytime.2. Phoneuse:Studentsmayaskpermissiontousetheschoolphoneforemergencies.

Studentswillnotbeallowedtocallhomeformissedorforgottenwork.Callsshouldbelimitedtocriticalneedsasdeterminedbytheofficemanager.

3. Copieruse:Studentsmaynotusethecopier.4. General:Studentsarenotallowedintheofficeorstorageareasduringschoolhours

schoolofficeintheoriginalcontainersandcompleteallMedicalAuthorizationformsasdescribedbelow.

Allmedications,whetherPrescriptionorOver-the-Counter,mustbeturnedintotheschoolofficebythestudent’sparent/guardianorotherresponsibleadult.Theexceptionsare:Epi-pensandinhalers.(However,aSchoolMedicationPhysician/Prescriber/ParentAuthorizationFormmustbeonfilealongwithanappropriateEmergencyActionPlan(EAP)forthosestudentsrequiringEpi-pensforallergicreactionsandinhalersforasthma.

3. Nostudentwillbepermittedtocarryorpossessanytypeofmedications,whetherPrescriptionorOver-theCounter,onhis/herpersonatanytime–includingfieldtripsorduringafter-care(exceptemergencymedicationsandapprovedmedicationsprescribedbyaphysicianforselfadministration).

Formisaccessibleontheschoolwebsite.ECCSwillalsoaccepttheSchoolMedicationPhysician/Prescriber/ParentAuthorizationFormprovidedbytheAlabamaDepartmentofEducationthatisavailableatmostpediatricoffices.However,theAlabamaDepartmentofEducationformsstatethattheSchoolNurseordesigneewillassistthechildwithtakingthemedication.ECCSdoesnothaveaschoolnurse.IfyourphysicianusestheADEform,youwillalsoneedtosignanadditionalforminsuringyouareawarethatthereisnotaschoolnurseonstaff.

5. Prescriptionmedicationwillrequirethephysician/prescribersignatureontheauthorizationform(aswellastheparent/guardiansignature).

6. ForPrescriptionmedications,acurrentpharmacylabeledcontainerisrequiredwhichincludesthestudent’sname,physicianname,nameofmedication,strength,dosage,timeinterval,routeanddateofdrug’sdiscontinuationwhenappropriate.

7. IfthePrescriptionmedicationorderischangedduringtheschoolyear,anewauthorizationformisrequired.Bothphysician/prescriberandparent/guardianmustsignthenewform.Medicationsthatareprescribedwitharangeofdosagewillrequirewrittendocumentationfromtheparentidentifyingthedosetobegivenatschool.Thestaffcannotacceptthewordofthechildregardingthedosage.

8. Over-the-Countermedicationstobegivenforashorttermillnesssuchasacold,painduetoinjury,etc.willrequiretheparent/guardiansignatureonlyonthemedicationauthorizationformandrequirecheckingtheShortTermOver-the-Counteroption.Thisauthorizationwillexpireaftertwoweeks,andmedicationswillneedtobepickedupfromtheschool.

9. Over-theCountermedicationsforchronicconditions(menstrualcrampsandheadaches)ortotreatallergicreactions(i.e.Benadryl)willrequiretheparent/guardiansignatureonlyonthemedicationauthorizationformandrequirecheckingtheLongTermOver-the-Counteroptiononthemedicationauthorizationform.

10. ParentsmustsupplyallOver-the-Countermedicationstotheschool.Themedicationshouldnotbeexpiredandmustbeprovidedintheoriginalcontainerwithallmanufacturers’labelingclearlylegible.TheOTCmedicationmustbeageappropriate.Thestudent’snamemustbewrittenonthecontainer.

FUND-RAISINGInordertohavesuccessfulfundraisingeffortsitisessentialthatECCSparentsvolunteertimeinvariousacademic,fundraising,andotherschoolactivitiesthroughouttheyear.Limitedschool-widefundraisingisallowedforthepurposeofseekingtheextrafundsneededtosupportarobustandengagingschoolculture.Inordertoremainsensitiveandrespectfulofparentswhoarealreadypayingforaprivateeducation,ECCShasestablishedthefollowingapprovedschool-widefundraisersfortheupcomingschoolyear:
