II. ECCSATAGLANCE

A. MISSIONSTATEMENTEvangelClassicalChristianSchool(ECCS)seekstoglorifyGodbybringingcovenantchildrentospiritualmaturitythroughaclassicalChristianeducationandbiblicaltrainingandteachingusingaChristianworld-viewasafoundationforalllearningwithacommitmenttoprayerandtheReformedFaith.

B. GRADESK-5through12thgrade

C. SCHOOLDAYTheschoolopensat7:00a.m.withBeforeHoursCarefrom7:00-7:40a.m.Thebellwillringat7:40todismissallstudentstotheirclassrooms.Studentsaremorepreparedforthedayandtendtoworkbetterwhentheyarrivebetween7:40and7:50am.Morningactivitiesbeginat7:40a.m.andclassesbeginimmediatelyat8:00a.m.TheGrammarschool(Kindergartenthrough5thgrades)dayendsat1:00p.m.

D. ORGANIZATIONALSTRUCTUREECCSisaministryofEvangelChurchP.C.A.andisgoverneddirectlybyaschoolboardallofwhomwillbeappointedbytheSessionofEvangelChurch.TheBoard’sauthoritywillbedelegatedtoitbythechurchSession,whichretainstherighttodissolvetheBoarduponatwo-thirdsvote,thusdirectlyassertingitsauthorityoverECCS.

E. ADMINISTRATIONECCSAdministrationconsistsoftheInterimHeadofSchoolwhooverseestheschoolprogramaswellasbothprincipalsandthedean;theGrammarPrincipalwhoadministersandmanagestheGrammarSchool,After-HoursCare,andtheGrammarCo-curricularEnrichmentProgram;andtheLogic&RhetoricPrincipal,whoadministersandmanagestheLogic&RhetoricSchoolandtheL&RCo-curricularEnrichmentProgram.OtheradministrativepersonnelincludetheAssistantstothePrincipals,AdmissionsDirector,GuidanceCounselor,EvangelClassicalPreschoolDirector,L&ROfficeManager,GrammarOfficeManager,BusinessOfficeManager,BusinessOfficeAssistant,andBefore/After-HoursDirector.



F. CURRICULUMThecurriculumwillbeestablishedbythePrincipals,andBoardCurriculumCommittee,whichwilldrawfromestablishedclassicalschoolcurricula,includingbutnotlimitedtoLogosClassicalSchoolandHillsdaleAcademy.TheNASBisthepreferredtranslationoftheBibleformostclassandmemorywork.

G. FINANCESECCSisfinanciallyself-supporting.Tuition,fundraisinganddonationsfromthosefavoringclassicalandChristianeducationaretheprimarysourcesofincome.

H. INSURANCEECCSprovidesAccidentInsurancecoverageforallstudentswhiletheyareonschoolgroundsandwhileattendingfieldtripsandotherschoolsponsoredactivities.

I. AFFILIATIONSEvangelClassicalChristianSchoolisanaccreditedmemberoftheAssociationofClassicalandChristianSchools(ACCS).Becauseourgoalsandphilosophiesareinherentlydifferentfromgovernmentschools,ECCSwillnotpursuestateaccreditation.ECCSdoesnotacceptanystateorfederalfunding.ACCSaccreditationdoesnotrequireteacherstobestatecertified.ECCSrequiresallteacherstohaveaminimumofaBachelor’sdegree.ECCSwillactivelyrecruitteacherswithclassicalexperience,graduatedegrees,anddegreesthatmostreflectthesubjectstobetaught.

J. PTFMISSIONSTATEMENTTheEvangelClassicalChristianSchool(ECCS)ParentTeacherFellowship(PTF)supportsthemissionofECCSthroughprayer,communication,serviceandfellowship.Weseektobuildcommunitybyencouragingandpromotingparentparticipationinschoolactivitiesandevents.AllparentsareinvitedtojoinandparticipateinallPTFmeetingsandevents.

K. NON-DISCRIMINATIONPOLICYEvangelClassicalChristianSchooladmitsstudentsofanyrace,color,ornationalandethnicorigintoallrights,privileges,programs,andactivitiesgenerallyaccordedormade



availabletostudentsoftheschool.EvangelClassicalChristianSchooldoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofrace,color,nationalorethnicorigininadministrationofitseducationalpoliciesoradmissionandhiringpractices.

L. SPECIALNEEDS ECCSisneitherstaffednorqualifiedtodiagnoseormeetspecialneedsofstudentswithcertain

specificdisabilities.Somelearningdisabilitiescategorizedasmildmayallowforcertainclassroomaccommodationstobemade,butalldiagnoseddisabilitiesmustbestatedonthestudentapplicationordocumentedinthestudent’sfileupondiagnosesifthechildisalreadyaccepted.Allrequestedaccommodationsmustbediscussedandagreeduponbyschoolofficialspriortostudent’sfinalacceptanceand/orplacementintoaclass.

III. THEBOARD

A. GOVERNANCEECCSshallbegovernedbytheBoard.

B. AUTHORITYOFTHEBOARDTheBoardshallbevestedwithitsgoverningauthoritybythechurchSession.Unlessotherwisenoted,alldecisionsoftheBoardshallbesubjecttotheauthorityoftheSessionasstatedin“OrganizationalStructure”above.

C. APPOINTEDBOARDMEMBERSTheBoardshallconsistofindividualsapprovedandappointedbytheSessionandwillalwaysincludeatleastoneactivememberoftheSession.

D. BOARDMEETINGSTheBoardshallholdatleastonemeetingeachcalendarquarter.WhiletheBoardmeetingswillbeheldinclosedsession,teachersorparentsofanECCSstudentmayrequesttoaddresstheBoardatascheduledmeetingbywrittenrequestatleastoneweekpriortoaregularlyscheduledmeeting.



IV. STATEMENTOFFAITHANDSECONDARYDOCTRINES(FROMECCSBY-LAWS)ThisstatementoffaithcontainstheessentialbiblicaldoctrinesthatguidetheministryofEvangelClassicalChristianSchool.EvangelClassicalChristianSchoolisaministryofEvangelPresbyterianChurch(EPC),withwhose“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”weagreeandoperateinaccordance.TheaforementionedEPCdocumentamplifiesItemCintheECCSStatementofFaithbelow.Theprimarydoctrinesbelowdefinetheperspectivefromwhichallclasseswillbetaughtandareoneofthetoolsthatwillbeusedinthehiringoffacultyandadministration.IssuesnotmentionedinthisinthisstatementoffaithorspecificallyaddressedintheEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”aretobeconsideredsecondarydoctrinesandwillnotbeemphasizedintheteachingoftheschool.Thesesecondarydoctrineissuesareimportant,andtheymayariseuponoccasionwithinthecurriculum;EvangelClassicalChristianSchoolrecognizesthatChristiansareatlibertytoreachdifferentconclusionsregardingthem.Theschool’srecognitionthatChristiansdisagreeonthesetopics,however,shouldnotbeinterpretedtomeanthattheschoolbelievesthatthereisnorightanswertoquestionsabouttheseissues.Withthiscaveatinmindandsothatdoctrinaldisputesdonotcauseirreparabledivisionwithintheschool,classroomdiscussionofsecondarydoctrineswillclearlydelineatetheReformedviewofthePresbyterianChurchofAmericawhileencouragingstudentstorespectfullyinvestigateandarticulatealternateviewsheldbyotherChristiantraditions.ECCSteacherswillmodelrespectfuldialogueandencouragestudentstofollowtheexampleoftheBereanswho“...receivedthewordwithgreateagerness,andexaminedtheScripturesdailytoseewhetherifwhatPaulsaidwastrue.”(Acts17:11,NIV).Studentswillalsobeencouragedtofollowupanyquestionstheyhaveregardingclassroomdiscussionwiththeirparentsandpastor.

A. SOVEREIGNTYOFGODGod’ssovereigntycontrolsallthatoccursinHisworldandinHischurch.Hisplansandpurposesalwaysprevail;nothingcanthwartthem.

B. INERRANCYOFSCRIPTUREGod'swrittenWord,theBible,isfreefromerrorandiscompletelytrustworthy.ItisHistruthandisthefinalauthorityinallmatters.



C. GOD’SCREATIONOFTHEWORLD,MANKIND,ANDMARRIAGETheTriuneGod(Father,Son,andHolySpirit)alonehasexistedfrometernitypastandinHiswisdomdecidedtocreatetheuniversefromnothing.Godspokeanditcameintoexistence.HumanitydidnotevolvefromlowerlifeformsbutwascreatedbyGod.MankindwascreatedwithdignityinthathewasmadeinGod'simageandwascreatedinhumility;ourpurposeistoglorifyGodandtoenjoyHimforever.SeealsoEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”ItemB:“StatementontheSanctityofHumanLife.”

Godpurposefullycreatedbothmaleandfemale,andHecreatedeachgendertobedistinctfromtheother,thoughequalintheirreflectionofHisimage.Rejectionofone’soriginalanatomicalsexisarejectionoftheimageofGodwithinthatperson.

GodestablishedholymarriagebetweenonemanandonewomantoreflecttherelationshipofChristwithHisChurchandtobethebasicunitofhumansociety.Webelievethattheword“marriage”hasonlyonemeaning:theunitingofonemanandonewomaninanexclusiveunion,asdeterminedintheScriptures.Forthisreason,itisonlyinamarriagebetweenonemanandonewomanthatGodsanctionssexualrelationships.SeealsoEPC“StatementonMattersofFaith,Belief,Conduct,andUseofFacilities”ItemC:“StatementonMarriage,Gender,andSexuality.”

D. FALLOFMANKINDAllmankindparticipatedinAdam'sfallfromhisoriginalsinlessstateandarethustotallydepravedandlostinsin.

E. JESUS,SAVIOROFSINNERSJesusChrististheuniqueSonofGodandtheonlySavioroftheworld.FullyGodandfullyman,Hewasbornofavirginandlivedasinlesslife.HealonesecuredoursalvationbyHissubstitutionaryatonementonthecrossandbyHisrighteouslifeimputedtous.Jesusrosebodilyfromthedead,ascendedtotherighthandoftheFather,andwillcomeagaininpowerandglory.



F. JUSTIFICATIONBYFAITHALONESinnersarejustifiedbyfaithaloneanddonotdeservenorcantheyearn,salvation.JustificationisgrantedonlybyGod'sgracethroughfaithinJesusChrist.

G. EMPOWERINGHOLYSPIRITEverytruebelieverinJesusChristisin-dweltandempoweredbytheHolySpirit,whoenablesbelieverstoliveagodlylifeandtoperformgoodworks.

H. BODYOFCHRISTAllbelieversarespirituallyunitedintheLordJesusChrist,theHeadoftheChurch,andeverybelieverisamemberofthebodyofChrist.

I. FINALJUDGMENTANDRESURRECTIONAtthesecondcomingofChrist,thesavedandthelostwillbebodilyresurrectedandjudged.Thesavedwillberesurrectedtoeternallife,andthelostwillberesurrectedtoeternalcondemnation.

V. ADMISSIONPROCEDURES

A. ADMISSIONSCRITERIA1. Allapplicationsmustbesubmittedonlineviawww.evangelclassical.org.2. $425.00newstudentfeewillbepaidatthetimeofsubmission.3. Studentsmustdemonstrateduringtheadmissionstestingprocessthattheyare

academicallypreparedtobeginstudyatECCS.Agradelevelcompetence/entranceexaminmathematics,readingcomprehension,andwritingskillsisrequired.

4. Studentmustscore70%oraboveontherequiredentranceexam.5. ECCSisnotstaffedtoservestudentswithsignificantsocial,mental,orbehavioralproblems.

Studentmustexhibitappropriatelevelsofbehaviorandmaturityandparentsmustdiscloseanypreviousrecordofsignificantsocial,behavioral,ormentalproblems.Ifevidenceofnondisclosureoccursafteracceptancethestudentcouldbecomesubjecttodismissal.

6. Parent/Guardians’interviewmusthaveasatisfactoryconclusionasdeterminedbytheinterviewer.

7. ECCSisacovenantschoolrequiringthatatleastoneparentorlegalguardianbeaprofessingChristianingoodstandinginalocalchurchbasedonHebrews10:25.



B. WAITINGLISTANDAPPLICATIONPROCEDURE1. ECCSshallmaintainawaitingpoollistforallclasses.CurrentlyenrolledEvangel

ClassicalPreschoolK4studentswillhavefirstpriorityoverallotherK5applicationsprovidedthattheirnamesareonthewaitinglistbyJanuary15th.Childrenofteachers,siblingsofcurrentlyenrolledstudents,EvangelPresbyterianChurch(EPC)minister’schildren,andchildrenofEPCmemberswhohavetheirnamesplacedinthewaitingpoolbyJanuary15thwillhaveprioritystatusinthatorder(hereafterreferredtoas“PriorityApplicants”).

2. Onlyachild'sparentorlegalguardianmayplacethechild’snameintheECCSwaitingpool.Aone-time,non-refundable$50.00feemustaccompanyeachwaitinglistformsubmitted.The$50.00paymentwillbecreditedtowardthe$425.00applicationfee.

3. AllthoseinthewaitingpoolwillreceivenotificationwhenECCSonlineapplicationisopenforthem.ECCSwillsetaWaitingPoolApplicationdeadlinefortheupcomingschoolyear.PriorityApplicantsmustsubmittheirapplicationstoECCSpriortothedeadlineorforfeittheirpriorityliststatus.Aftersuchdeadline,allstudentswillhavenon-prioritystatus.

4. TheAdmissionsDirectorshallevaluatetheapplicantsintheWaitingPoolintheorderlistedaboveinB1untilallclassopeningshavebeenfilled.Itisourdesiretomaintaina1:16teacher/studentratioinKindergartenthrough2ndgradeanda1:18teacher/studentratioin3rd-12thgrades.

C. AGEDEADLINESAllstudentsenteringKindergartenmustbe5yearsoldbeforeSeptember1st.Allstudentsentering1stgrademustbe6yearsoldbeforeSeptember1st.ExceptionswillbeconsideredforachildwhosebirthdayisSeptember1st–15th,contingentonmeetingallotheradmissioncriteria.



D. IMMUNIZATIONREQUIREMENTSEachstudentmusthaveavalidAlabamaCertificateofImmunization(COI)onfileonorbeforethefirstdayoftheschoolyear.StudentsmaynotattendclassesuntilthisCOIisonfileatECCS.COIsmaybeobtainedfromthechild’sdoctor,clinicorhealthdepartment.Avaricella(chickenpox)vaccinedocumentationisalsorequiredforeachstudent.ForstudentswhoaremovingtoAlabama,out-of-statevaccinationrecordsmustbetransferredtotheAlabamaCertificateofImmunizationpriortoschoolentry.Amedicalexemption(suppliedbyanAlabamaphysician)oraCertificateofReligiousExemption(obtainedfromthelocalcountyhealthdepartment)mustbeonfilepriortothestudententeringclassatECCSinordertosatisfyanyvariancesfromtheimmunizationrequirementsasstatedabove.

VI. TUITIONANDFEES

A. TUITIONPHILOSOPHYECCSiscommittedtomaintainingtuitionatalevelthatisbothaffordableforECCSfamiliesandfinanciallyresponsiblefortheschool.

B. PARENTVOLUNTEERISMINCLASSROOMSECCSrecognizesthattheexpertiseandknowledgeofparentsinvariousfieldscanbeofinvaluableworthinourclassrooms.Weencourageanyparentswhofeelthattheirskillsorknowledgemaybeusefultotheteacher,whetheronanon-goingoronaone-timebasistocommunicatethatwiththeteachertoseeifandhowassistancemaybegiven.

EARLYMORNINGVISITSParentsmaywalktheirchildtotheclassroomthefirstweekofschool.Afterthefirstweek,parentsareaskedtodropstudentsoffinthecarlineor,ifneeded,theymaywalktheirchildtotheoffice,butnottotheclassroom.Parentsshouldnotmakeunannouncedvisitstoteachersbeforeclassesbegininthemorningsasteachersarepreparingfortheschoolday.Ifanearlymorningmessageneedstobecommunicatedwiththeteacher,parentsareaskedtoleavethemessagewiththeofficeanditwillbedeliveredtotheteacher.

E. CLASSROOMOBSERVATIONSParentsarealwayswelcometovisittheirchildren’sclasses.Allvisitsaretobescheduledinadvancewiththeteacher,oriftheparentwishestositinonmorethanoneclass,withtheprincipal.Parentswhovisitclassesshouldbeinplacebythetimethetardybellforthatclassringsandstayuntilthedismissalbellringsinordertoavoidunnecessarydistractions.Parentsmayvisitoneclass,ortheymay“shadow”theirstudentthroughoutawholeorpartialday’sschedule.Whenvisiting,parentsshouldbeconsiderateoftheteacher'stimeandbeawareofhowtheirpresenceaffectstheclassroom.Allvisitors,includingvisitingparents,arerequiredtosigninatthefrontdeskandobtainavisitor’spassbeforegoingtoaclassroom.Allvisitorsmustsignoutatthefrontdeskuponleavingtheschool.

communications,norshoulditbeconsidered“realtime”asfarasacademicprogressisconcerned.Thereisagradingwindow,fromafewdaystoaweek,fromthetimethatastudentturnsinanassignmentuntilthegradeforthatassignmentappearsinRenweb,dependinguponthecomplexityoftheassignmentandthetimerequiredtogradeit.Therefore,anytimeaparenthasanimmediateconcernoraquestionaboutgradesorotherinformationinRenweb,theyshouldcontacttheteacherforclarification,preferablythroughemail.

CONFERENCESParent-teacherconferenceswillbescheduledtwotimesperyearbutmaybescheduledasdeemedappropriatebyeithertheteacherortheparents.Bothparentsarestronglyencouragedtoattendanyandallconferences.Torequestaspecialconferencewithateacher,parentsareencouragedtoemailtherequesttotheteacherorcalltheschoolofficetorequestaphonecallfromtheteacherandtocompleteapost-conferenceform,availablefromtheteacheroroffice.

Ourphilosophyofhandlingquestions,concerns,orcomplaintsisbasedontheprinciplestaughtbyourLordfoundinMatthew18:15-16:Andifyourbrothersinsgoandreprovehiminprivate;ifhelistenstoyou,youhavewonyourbrother.Butifhedoesnotlistentoyou,takeoneortwomorewithyou,sothatbythemouthoftwoorthreewitnesseseveryfactmaybeconfirmed.Bygoingfirsttothepersonundersuspicion,gossipisavoided.Bygoingfirsttotheappropriateperson,bothsidesofanissuecanbeheard,andmostoftenitisdiscoveredthatatleastpartoftheconcernwasbasedoninaccurateorincompleteinformation,andthentheproblemcanberesolved.Theprincipleunderlyingtheprocedureoutlinedbelowisclear:Solveeachcomplaintwiththeperson(s)directlyinvolvedatthelowestpossiblelevel.Movethematterupthechainofauthority,onlyasnecessary,tothelevelwhereitcanberesolved.

K. PARENTCONDUCTSTANDARDS1. EXPECTATIONS

Justasweexpectteacherstoconductthemselvesinacourteousandrespectfulmannerwhencommunicatingwithparents,likewiseparentswillbeexpectedtoconductthemselvesinacourteousandrespectfulmannerwheninteractingwithECCSfaculty,staff,andadministrators,aswellaswiththosewholeadextracurricularactivitiesincludingrepresentativesofEvangelChristianSchool(ECS)whetherinperson,throughe-mail,oronsocialmedia.

2. DEFINITIONS“Abusiveconduct”isdefinedasrudeorunseemlyconduct,whichistheantithesisofChristianloveasdescribedinICorinthians13:4-5.“Rude,”asdefinedbyMerriamWebsterisoffensiveinmanneroraction(i.e.,discourteous).“Unseemly”isdefinedbythesameresourceasthatwhichisnotaccordingwithestablishedstandardsofgoodformortaste(e.g.,unseemlybickering)orthatwhichisnotsuitablefortimeorplace(i.e.,inappropriate).

3. PROCESSParentswhodisplayapatternofabusiveconduct,whetherinpersonorthroughotherformsofcommunication,includinge-mailandsocialmedia,maybeaskedtowithdrawtheirchildfromtheschoolifeffortstoencourageamoreconstructiveapproachtoproblem-solvingfail.Astudentwhoiswithdrawnduetoabusiveparentconductcannotapplyforreadmissionforoneyearfollowingawithdrawal.Shouldsuchstudentdesirere-admittancetoECCSthefollowingyear,THEBOARDwillmakeadecisionbasedon,butnotlimitedto,thecircumstancessurroundingthewithdrawalandtheparent'scurrentattitudeasrelatestothereasonforwithdrawalasdeterminedbyaninterviewbyapanelofBoardmembersandadministrators,andthecircumstancesatthetimeofre-application.



VIII. ARRIVAL,DISMISSAL,ANDBEFORE/AFTERHOURSCARE

A. MORNINGARRIVAL1. BEFOREHOURSCARE

StudentswhoparticipateinBefore-HoursCaremayarriveattheschoolbetween7:00-7:40a.m.Parentsmaydropthematthedownstairsentrance.ThestudentswillproceeddirectlytotheBHClocation,andtheBHCchargeof$3.00willbeapplied.AchildattendingBefore-HoursCarewillbechargedaflatfeeof$3.00regardlessofhowmuchorhowlittletimethechildwascaredforbetween7:00and7:40a.m.TimewillbekeptbytheECCSofficeclockandrecordedonadailybasisbytheBHCteacher.

2. ARRIVALTIMEStudentsshouldarriveforschoolbetween7:40-7:55a.m.Anystudentarrivingpriorto7:40willbesenttoBefore-HoursCareandtheBHCchargeof$3.00willbeapplied.Anystudentarrivingafter8:00a.m.willbecountedastardy.

3. DROP-OFFPROCEDUREa. K5through5thgradersshouldbedroppedoffatthelowercoveredentrance.b. Whendroppingoffstudents,parentsshouldfollowdesignatedtrafficflow

instructions,enteringthedrivewayandproceedingalongdesignatedlanesintheparkinglottothecovereddrop-offarea.Theentrancewillthenbeontheright.Studentsshouldbereadytoexitthecarupontheapproachofthefarthestcone.Thiswillenablethelinetocontinuemovingquickly.

c. Carsshouldbeplacedin“park”whenstoppedtodropoffstudents.d. Parentsshouldalwaysfollowthedesignatedtrafficflowinstructions.

4. PARKING/WALKINGCHILDRENINTOBUILDINGa. Parentswhowishtowalktheirchildintothebuildingmustparkindesignated

spacesandwalkstudentstotheentranceofthebuildingusingthedesignatedcrosswalkareasonly.Parentsareaskednottowalkstudentstotheclassroombeyondthefirstweekofschool.Donotparkinthehandicapspaceswithoutauthorizedpermission.

b. Parentsmustnotparkorleavecarsunattendedinthedropoffarea.



5. BICYCLERIDERSAbikerackislocatedatthelowerentranceofthebuildingforallbikes.Cautionmustalwaysbeusedwhenapproachingschooltrafficandbikesafetylawsmustbefollowed.Bikersareaskedtousetheparkinglotandsidewalksinsteadofthedrivewaywhenapproachingtheschool.Anystudentabusingsafetylawswilllosetheprivilegeofridinghis/herbiketoschool.

B. AFTERNOONDISMISSAL1. DISMISSALTIME

Preschoolpick-upwilloccurdirectlypriortothegrammartraffic.K5through5thgradepick-upwilloccurbetween1:00-1:10p.m.onlyatthelowercoveredentrance.

2. AFTER-HOURSCAREParentsarrivinglateforpick-upwillberequiredtopark,enterthebuilding,andproceedtothedesignatedAfter-HoursCare(AHC)roomtosigntheirchildoutofAHC.ThiswillincuranAHCcharge.AnAHCregistrationandfeewillresultuponthe3rdsuchlatepick-up.

3. PICKINGUPSTUDENTSa. Eachstudentwillreceiveacolor-codedpick-upcardfromhis/herteacher.This

willbethechild'scardthroughoutthisschoolyear.b. Parentswillbegivenseveralcopiesofthepick-upcardtokeepintheirvehicles

orpasstootherswhohavepermissiontopickuptheirchild.Nochildwillbereleasedtoacarlinevehiclewithoutthiscardunlesstheparentisrecognizabletotheteacher.

c. Thepick-upcardshouldbekeptinthecarandbeclearlydisplayedwheninthecarpoolline.

d. Adults,otherthanparents,whodesiretopickupachildbutdonothaveapick-upcard,willneedtoparkandcomeinsidetotheschooloffice.Theirnamemustbeontheparent'spermissionformandtheymustshowproofofidentificationinorderforthechildtobereleasedtothem.Parentsmaycalltheschoolofficeduringthedaytomakespecialpick-uparrangements.

e. Topickupstudentsintheafternooncarline,parentsshouldproceedtofarthestcolorcone,placethecarinparkandallowteacherstoloadthestudentsintothecars.Parentsarestronglydiscouragedfromenteringthebuildingduringpick-up.Parentswhochoosetowalkupforpick-upmustquietlywaitinthedesignatedundercoverarea,avoidingloudconversations,andbeawarethatthecarlinewill

IX. ATTENDANCEANDPUNCTUALITY

A. ATTENDANCE/ABSENCESRegularattendanceisessentialfortheacademicsuccessofGrammarSchoolstudents.Duetogenerousamountsofholidayswithintheschoolcalendar,schoolshouldbemissedonlywhenabsolutelynecessary.

1. Attendancewillberecordedineachclassroomatthebeginningoftheschoolday.

2. Studentsarelimitedtonomorethanfourteen(14)absencesperyear,excusedorunexcused,inordertopromotetothenextgrade.Exceptionswouldbemadeonlyincasesofextenuatingcircumstancessuchasextendedillnesses,andwillbemadeonacase-by-casebasisbytheBoard.

3. Studentswhoareabsentfromtheirclasswillbemarked“unexcused”untilanoteofexplanationisreceivedbytheECCSGrammaroffice.ParentsarerequiredtosendanoteofexplanationtotheECCSofficethedayafteranabsence.Shouldanotenotbereceivedwithinthree(3)schooldaysfromthedateoftheabsence,theabsencewillremainunexcused.

4. Examplesofacceptableexcusesforabsencesareillness,familyemergencies,school-sanctionedevents,andotherexceptionspre-approvedbytheECCSBoard.



5. Ifastudentistobeabsentforanyforeseenreasonsuchasfamilytravel,appointments,etc.,parentsmustcontacttheGrammarSchoolofficepriortotheexpectedabsencetorequestapre-approvedabsenceortheabsencewillbeconsideredunexcused.

a. Forfamilytrips,anemailmustbesenttotheGrammarPrincipaldetailingthedatesandreasonfortheforeseenabsencepriortotheabsenceforapproval.

b. OncetheforeseenabsencehasbeenapprovedbytheGrammarPrincipal,teacherswillgivetheworkthatwillbemissedtothestudent.

c. Discretionaryabsences,suchasvacations,maynotbepre-approvedforstudentswhohavealreadymissedenoughdaysthattheyareonpacetoexceedthemaximumallowedabsencesfortheschoolyear.Forexample,ifastudenthasalreadymissednine(9)daysthefirstsemester,afour(4)dayvacationinFebruarywouldnotbeexcused,asitwouldputthestudentatgreatriskforexceedingthemaximumoffourteen(14)daysabsent.

6. Make-upworkwillnotbegivenforanydaymissedduetoanunexcusedabsence.Anygradedwork,includinghomeworkcollectedortests/quizzesadministeredduringaclassfromwhichthestudenthasanunexcusedabsencewillberecordedaszerointhegradebook.

7. Parentswillreceivenotificationfromtheofficeaftertwounexcusedabsenceswithinasemester.Followingfiveunexcusedabsences,aconferenceisrequiredbetweentheparentsandtheprincipal.

8. Ifanabsenceduetoanillnessisfourormoreconsecutivedays,adoctor’sexcusemustbeprovidedfortheabsencestobeexcused.

9. Ifregularabsencesoccurforsimpleillnesssuchasaheadacheorstomachache,adoctor’sexcusewillberequiredafterthethirdsuchabsences.

10. Anytimeastudentmissesschoolduetoappointments,suchasdoctor,dentist,ororthodonticappointments,anexcusefromthedoctor’sofficeshouldbereturnedtotheschool.Studentswhomissschoolforsuchappointmentsshouldattendschooluntiltheymustleavefortheappointmentandshouldreturntoschoolaftertheappointmentconcludesifpossible.

11. Ifastudentisabsentfromschoolorchecksoutofschoolduetoillness,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtoreturntoschoolattheendoftheschooldayto

TARDINESSClassroomsopenat7:40a.m.andclassesbeginat8:00a.m.Itistheparents’responsibilitytogetstudentstoschoolby8:00a.m.Tardinesscausesastressfulstarttothechild’sdayandpenalizesthechildbyresultinginlossofclassroompreparationtime,instructiontime,andsocialinteractionwithpeers.Astudentistardyifarrivingintheclassroomafter8:00a.m.Thetardywillbeexcusedifastudenthasanotefromhis/herparentthatgivesalegitimatereasonforthetardinessorifavalidreasonisdeterminedfromcircumstancesasdeterminedbytheofficeand/orprincipal.Otherwise,thetardywillbeunexcused.Followingathirdunexcusedtardy,theparentswillbechargeda$5.00tardyfeeperchildpersemester.Thisfeewillautomaticallybechargedtotheparents’account..Note:After8:30a.m.thestudentmustbesignedinattheofficebythestudent’sparentoranotheradultauthorizedinwritingtoECCSbythestudent’sparentstatingthereasonforthetardy.Thistardywillbeexcusedorunexcusedasdecidedbytheofficeorprincipal.

Sign-in/Sign-outProcedures

Studentsarrivingatschoollaterthan8:30a.m.mustbesignedinattherespectiveofficebythestudent’sparentoranauthorizedadult.Studentsmustbesignedoutbythestudent’sparentorauthorizedadultinordertobeallowedtoleavetheschoolgroundspriortoregulardismissal.Studentsmustbeinclass½day(i.e.2.5hoursinthegrammarschool)tobeconsideredpresentforthatday.

C. MAKE-UPWORKMake-upworkforexcusedabsencesmustbecompletedtothesatisfactionoftheteacherwithinaperiodoftimeequivalenttonomorethanoneschooldayforeachdayabsent.Exceptionsforextenuatingcircumstanceswillbeaddressedonanindividualbasis.Make-upworkwillnotbegivenforanydaymissedduetoasuspensionorunexcusedabsence.Thestudentwillreceiveagradeofzeroforanyworkmisseddueto

ACADEMICSECCSoperatesontheclassicalmodel,incorporatingelementsofgrammar,logic,andrhetoricacrosseverycourseandgradelevel.WhileincorporatingallelementsoftheTrivium,grammarteacherswillfocusprimarilyonthemethodologiesofthegrammarstage,i.e.,songs,chants,repetition,andjingles.ECCSstudentsareexpectedtostriveforacademicexcellence.Whilerecognizingthatallchildrenlearndifferently,studentswillbeencouragedtodevelopself-disciplineintheirworkandstudyhabits.OurgoalistoleadchildrentoloveGodwithalltheirheart,strength,soulandmind.

b. Teacher’srecommendationbaseduponprojectedsuccessatnextgradelevel.c. Conductratingof“S”unlessotherwiseapprovedbyprincipalrecommendation.

Failureofanycoresubject(Bible,History,Math,Latin,Science,Reading/Literature,andGrammar)isaseriousimpedimenttopromotion.Shouldastudentfailanycoresubject,remediationofthesubjecttotheschool’ssatisfactionwillberequiredasdemonstratedbyascoreof70%accuracyonare-entrytest.Failuretoremediaterequiredcoursewillresultinthestudenthavingtorepeatthegrade.Failureofanytwocoresubjectswillresultinfailureofthegrade.



Ifallcriteriaaremet,thestudentwillbepromotedtothenextgrade.Ifsome,butnotallaremet,theprincipalwillreviewthecase,withtheinputoftheteacherandparents,anddeterminewhetherthestudentmaybepromoted.ParentsmayappealthisdecisiontotheBoard.

4. Repeated,shortperiodsofpracticeorstudyareoftenamoreeffectivewaytolearnthanonelongstudyperiod.

5. Homeworkmaybeassignedtostudentswhohavebeengivenadequatetimeinclasstocompleteanassignmentyetdidnotusetheirtimewisely.Inthisevent,parentsareaskedtohelpreinforcetheimportanceofusingourtimewiselywhilecompletingclasswork.

6. WhilehomeworkispostedonRenWeb,studentsandparentsshouldnotrelyprimarilyonRenWebtokeepupwiththeworkdue.ChangesmaybemadeintheclassroomthatarenotimmediatelyreflectedinRenWeb.Therefore,allstudentsinfirstthroughfifthgradeswillbeissuedanassignmentnotebook.Itisthestudents’responsibilitytokeepawrittenlistofdailyassignedhomeworkinthisassignmentnotebook.ThishomeworkassignmentnotebookwillsupersedeanyhomeworklistedonRenWeb.

Thesamestandardsofbehaviorthatapplyinschoolwillapplytofieldtrips.Studentbehaviorduringafieldtripshouldmirrorclassroomexpectations.Childrenshouldshowrespectandhonortoclassmates,totheaudience,toperformers,andtodrivers/chaperones.ECCSstudentsareexpectedtoactcourteouslyandwithdignity,doingwhatwouldbepleasingtoGod.

Websterdefinesdisciplineas"totrainordevelopbyinstructionandexerciseespeciallyinself-control"andas"trainingthatcorrects,molds,orperfectsthementalfacultiesormoralcharacter."Webelievethatitispossible,right,andessentialtodefineandteachwhatacceptableandunacceptablebehaviorisinpracticalwaysthatgovernandaffectourdailylives.

C. DISCIPLINEPOLICY1. PROBLEMBEHAVIOR

Responsetoastudent'sproblembehavior,inkindandamount,willbedeterminedbyhis/herteacherand,ifnecessary,theprincipal.Theseapplicationsofdisciplinewillbebasedonbiblicalprinciples,e.g.restitution,apologies(publicandprivate),swiftchastisement,restorationoffellowshipanddealingwithinappropriatelingeringattitudes.Thevastmajorityoftheseproblemswillbedealtwithattheclassroomlevel.Tomaintainconsistency,teacherswillmeetregularlytodiscussbiblicalstandardsandschoolpolicyconcerningtheseaspectsofdiscipline.

2. OFFICEVISITSTherearefivebasicbehaviorsthatwillautomaticallynecessitateattentionfromtheprincipal:

a. Disrespectshowntoanystaffmemberasdeterminedbythestaffmember.b. Dishonestyinanysituationwhileatschool,includinglying,cheating,and

stealing.c. Rebellion-outrightdisobedienceinresponsetoinstructions.d. Fighting-strikinginangerwiththeintenttoharmanother.e. Obscene,vulgar,orprofanelanguage.

Theprincipalmayrequirerestitution,janitorialwork,parentalattendanceduringtheschooldaywiththeirchild,spanking,orotherappropriatemeasures.Ifcorporalpunishmentisdeemednecessary,theprincipalwillcalltheparentsintotheofficetoadministerthepunishmenttotheirchild.However,theprincipalreservestherighttoadministercorporalpunishmentwithouttheparent’sattendance.

Withineithersemesteroftheschoolyear,ifastudentreceivesdisciplinefromtheprincipalforanyreason,thefollowingaccountingwillbeobserved:

a. Thefirsttwotimesastudentissenttotheprincipalfordisciplinehis/herparentswillbecontactedandappraisedofthedetailsofthevisit.Theprincipalwillseektheparents'assistanceandsupportinavertingfurtherproblems.

b. Ameetingofthestudent’sparents,teachers,andtheprincipalwillfollowthethirdofficevisitandtheBoardwillbenotified.



c. ShouldthestudentrequireafourthofficevisitthestudentwillbesuspendedfortwodaysandtheBoardwillbenotified.

d. IfafifthofficevisitisrequiredtheBoardwillbeapprisedandthestudentwillbeexpelled.

3. EXPULSIONTheECCSBoardrealizesthatexpellingastudentisaveryseriousmatterandshouldalwaysbecarefullyconsideredonacase-by-casebasis.Forgivenessandrestorationarefundamentaltoouroveralldisciplinepolicy.However,shouldastudentandhisparentsbeunabletoeliminatebehaviorproblemsbeforeafifthofficevisitisrequired,thestudentwillbeexpelled.Expulsiondoesnotreleaseafamilyfromtheirfinancialresponsibilitiesandtheremainingannualtuitionwillremaindueuponexpulsion.

4. RE-ADMITTANCEAnexpelledstudentcannotapplyforreadmissionforoneyearfollowinganexpulsion.Shouldtheexpelledstudentdesirere-admittancetoECCSthefollowingyear,THEBOARDwillmakeadecisionbasedon,butnotlimitedto,thecircumstancessurroundingtheexpulsion,thestudent'scurrentattitudeasitrelatestothereasonforexpulsionasdeterminedbyaninterviewbyapanelofBoardmembersandadministrators,andthecircumstancesatthetimeofre-application.

5. SERIOUSMISCONDUCTShouldastudentcommitanactwithseriousconsequencestheprincipalmayby-passtheoffice-visitprocedureandsuspendorexpelthestudentimmediately.Examplesofsuchseriousmisconductinclude,butarenotlimitedto,actsofendangeringthelivesofstudentsorstaffmembers,grossviolence,vandalismtoschoolfacilities,orviolationsofcivilorcriminallaw.Studentsmaybesubjecttoschooldisciplineforseriousmisconductthatoccursoutsideschoolhoursandsuspectedviolationsofthelawwillbereportedtotheauthorities.

6. FOOD,CHEWINGGUM,ANDDRINKS

Studentsarenotallowedtochewgumoncampus.Foodanddrinkmaybeconsumedonlyatanappropriatesnacktimeandasdesignatedbytheteacher.GrammarstudentsmayNOTusemicrowavesoranykitchenappliances.After-Hours



CareandExtra-Curricularparentsareencouragedtosendfoodsthatdonotrequireheatingorrefrigeration.

7. ELECTRONICDEVICES/INAPPROPRIATEITEMS/WEAPONS

Grammarstudentsmaynotbringpersonaltoys,radios,musicdevices,videogames,cellularphones,laserpointers,pagers,oranyothersimilardevicestoschool.AnyoftheseitemsaswellasotheritemsdeemedinappropriateorcontrarytoECCSprinciplesorChristianvaluesbyateacherand/ortheprincipalwillbeconfiscated.Noelectronicequipment,e.g.,IPods,IPads,hand-heldgamingdevices,etc.,isallowedonfieldtripsexceptforextended,overnighttrips,andthenitisatthediscretionoftheteacher.Studentsmaynotbringmovies,CD’s,orDVD’stoschoolunlesstheteachermakesaspecificrequestdirectlytotheparent.NoweaponsoritemsdeemeddangerousareallowedonECCSgrounds.Ornamentalweaponsmustbepre-approvedbytheprincipal.

8. InaccordancewithECCSpoliciesproperconductisexpectedofallstudentsduringtheschooldayandschool-sponsoredfieldtripsorevents.

XII. OFFICEPOLICIES

OFFICEETIQUETTESinceteachersarenotexpectedtopersonallyaccompanyeachstudenttotheoffice,certainguidelinesaretobefollowedtoensurethatthestudentsusetheofficecorrectly:

1. Studentsarenotallowedbehindofficecountersatanytime.2. Phoneuse:Studentsmayaskpermissiontousetheschoolphoneforemergencies.

Studentswillnotbeallowedtocallhomeformissedorforgottenwork.Callsshouldbelimitedtocriticalneedsasdeterminedbytheofficemanager.

3. Copieruse:Studentsmaynotusethecopier.4. General:Studentsarenotallowedintheofficeorstorageareasduringschoolhours

withoutanotefromtheteacher.Studentsshouldneverremoveitemsfromtheoffice.



EXPENDITUREREIMBURSEMENTDonationsofsuppliesandequipmentaregratefullyappreciated.Parentswhodesiretobereimbursedforexpensesmustobtainwrittenapprovalpriortoexpendingthefunds.Expensesincurredwithoutpriorwrittenapprovalwillbeconsidereddonations.

SICKNESS/FIRSTAID1. Achildshouldnotbebroughttoschoolifhe/shehashadvomiting,diarrhea,an

undiagnosedrash,pinkeye,orfeverwithintheprevious24hours.2. Ifachildbecomesillduringschoolhours,developsafeveroforgreaterthan100.5

degrees,experiencesvomitingorhasanapparentcommunicabledisease,theparentwillbenotifiedandaskedtocomeimmediatelytopickupthechild.

3. Thechildmustnotreturntoschooluntil24hoursaftertheyaresymptomfreeorhavewrittenpermissionfromtheirphysician.

4. Firstaid:Teacherswilladministersimplefirstaid,i.e.,Band-Aids.Shouldastudentrequireadditionalfirstaid,theofficestaffwilladministeradditionalfirstaid.

MEDICATION1. Parentsshouldbringanymedicinestobeadministeredduringschoolhourstothe

schoolofficeintheoriginalcontainersandcompleteallMedicalAuthorizationformsasdescribedbelow.

2. Allmedications,whetherPrescriptionorOver-the-Counter,mustbeturnedintotheschoolofficebythestudent’sparent/guardianorotherresponsibleadult.Theexceptionsare:Epi-pensandinhalers.(However,aSchoolMedicationPhysician/Prescriber/ParentAuthorizationFormmustbeonfilealongwithanappropriateEmergencyActionPlan(EAP)forthosestudentsrequiringEpi-pensforallergicreactionsandinhalersforasthma.

3. Nostudentwillbepermittedtocarryorpossessanytypeofmedications,whetherPrescriptionorOver-theCounter,onhis/herpersonatanytime–includingfieldtripsorduringafter-care(exceptemergencymedicationsandapprovedmedicationsprescribedbyaphysicianforselfadministration).

4. Theparent/guardianmustsignaSchoolMedicationPhysician/Prescriber/ParentAuthorizationFormbeforeanymedication,PrescriptionorOver-the-Counter,canbeadministeredatschool.TheSchoolMedicationPhysician/ProviderAuthorization

5. Prescriptionmedicationwillrequirethephysician/prescribersignatureontheauthorizationform(aswellastheparent/guardiansignature).

6. ForPrescriptionmedications,acurrentpharmacylabeledcontainerisrequiredwhichincludesthestudent’sname,physicianname,nameofmedication,strength,dosage,timeinterval,routeanddateofdrug’sdiscontinuationwhenappropriate.

7. IfthePrescriptionmedicationorderischangedduringtheschoolyear,anewauthorizationformisrequired.Bothphysician/prescriberandparent/guardianmustsignthenewform.Medicationsthatareprescribedwitharangeofdosagewillrequirewrittendocumentationfromtheparentidentifyingthedosetobegivenatschool.Thestaffcannotacceptthewordofthechildregardingthedosage.

8. Over-the-Countermedicationstobegivenforashorttermillnesssuchasacold,painduetoinjury,etc.willrequiretheparent/guardiansignatureonlyonthemedicationauthorizationformandrequirecheckingtheShortTermOver-the-Counteroption.Thisauthorizationwillexpireaftertwoweeks,andmedicationswillneedtobepickedupfromtheschool.

9. Over-theCountermedicationsforchronicconditions(menstrualcrampsandheadaches)ortotreatallergicreactions(i.e.Benadryl)willrequiretheparent/guardiansignatureonlyonthemedicationauthorizationformandrequirecheckingtheLongTermOver-the-Counteroptiononthemedicationauthorizationform.

10. ParentsmustsupplyallOver-the-Countermedicationstotheschool.Themedicationshouldnotbeexpiredandmustbeprovidedintheoriginalcontainerwithallmanufacturers’labelingclearlylegible.TheOTCmedicationmustbeageappropriate.Thestudent’snamemustbewrittenonthecontainer.
