Nearly twenty-five years ago, Heidi and I arrived in Mozambique. The country had suffered through colonialism, slavery, civil wars, communism, natural disasters, rampant disease, and poverty beyond description. We came knowing only Jesus, and all we could do was point to the Cross. We came to test and prove the Gospel in one of the neediest places we could find. Could we trust God? Did we have Good News for Mozambique? Would revival come to such an unlikely place? After twenty-five years, we still face extreme need knowing only Christ and Him crucified. We are still preaching the same Gospel. And through it all, God has been faithful. We have seen revival. Untold numbers have come to the Kingdom. The people of Mozambique have learned that Jesus is real and He loves them. Signs and wonders, not only in Mozambique but now in 34 nations around the world, testify to the Presence of the King!

We are thankful for the countless ways Jesus has shown Himself. We continue learning more from Him and seeking His face - every day we pursue growth in the knowledge of God. Our focus is Jesus, the life-giving lover of our souls. Everlasting life is found only in Him, complete with joy unspeakable. Daily we betroth people to Him, spreading everywhere His sweet fragrance. Our faith builds as we encounter and overcome obstacles, one at a time. We put no confidence in our-selves, but glory in Christ Jesus. Our aim is to make Him feel more loved than anyone or anything in this world, and God gives us an eternal perspective.

We have endless opportunity to demonstrate to the lost and needy a love they have never encoun-tered before. Although we are overwhelmed by the challenges of meeting such need, we continue to pursue Jesus. We consider it our priceless privilege to face the most critical issues of life in this world as we stop to love those whom He places in front of us. As we do this, we acknowledge what real blessings are, as Jesus outlined for us in the Beatitudes: poverty of spirit, meekness, purity in heart, hunger for righteousness, mercy, and faithfulness under persecution. These are blessings that satisfy like no others!

May you be be filled with Jesus’ sweet joy. We are truly thankful for your love and generosity.

In 2019, we set out on our 2nd annual Iris Global Summer Tour. Our vi-sion is to go where people are hungry for God and create a sacred space for intentional worship of our King. We long to stir up a sustained passion for God and His Kingdom, and for people to answer the call to go to the nations.

The foundation of Iris is built on the premise that we must first find God and experience intimacy with Him. To quote Papa Rolland, ‘We cannot love with supernatural, unstoppable love unless we first experience the love of the Father ourselves.’

The Gospel is simple. It says to love those in front of you and take care of those in need. Those needs may look differently, but we show up with the bread of the Father for those we are in front of. This is what we carry as we travel: we are vessels of renewal for many to wake up from their sleep and be His hands and feet again.

As we traveled across America and Canada we saw the prodigals come home, the sick healed, and souls saved. We desire to be a part of what God is doing in the earth and with joy, we enthusiastically invite others to follow His lead. Our heart is to spark that desire in the body of Christ wherever we go and with whomever we encounter.

We are guided by our belief that when we find Him we gain everything, and without Him we can do nothing of real value. He is the one our hearts adore!”

OUTREACHFor Iris, all fruitfulness flows from intimacy. Our priority is on prayer and worship. The interesting thing about this is the more we pray, the more we want to go out on the streets. The more we dedicate ourselves to seeking the Father, the more we want to minister to the lost. It is a natural overflow to progress from loving God with heart, soul, mind, and strength to loving our neighbor.

“My heart was grieved because my city of St. Louis faces deep challenges from violence, systemic poverty, and racial tensions. I was compelled to do something, and what started as a personal mission to pray in all 79 neighbor-hoods within a year has attracted prayer warriors from all over!

As we “pray for The Lou,” we are often regarded suspiciously at first, but then our neighbors see we are there to spread a message of hope and love. We get asked all the time, ‘Why are you here?’ Our answer is our message: ‘We want you to know how much God loves you!’ They are usually surprised because we actually show up where people don’t show up, and the walls come down. Not only are we dedicated to shifting the spiritual atmosphere of our community, we also lay hands on the sick and they are healed, many have encountered the living God, and light is shining in the darkness.

We are out on the streets pursing the shalom of Heaven for this city and we see the impact already. We will press on for revival in our community and for lives to be eternally transformed!”

    EDUCATION

We see our opportunity to provide education as an extraordinary privilege. It speaks to God’s faithfulness and our long-standing com-mitment to the communities we serve. We know education combined with the truth of the Gospel has the power to transform nations. While our beginnings are humble — with a teacher holding classes under a tree — we have since estab-lished education programs in 30 locations. Iris University is

coming to life. Students from our very own Escola Comun-hão Arco-Íris in Pemba, Mo-zambique attended Stanford University’s International In-stitute summer program.

“From the moment we received the invitation to participate, we understood the immense honor of being the first students to represent Mozambique at Stan-ford’s International Institute. Our school has already been nationally recognized with ac-

ademic awards, but this was a chance not only to show the world our high-achieving stu-dents, but to show our students the world.

Four students — Domingas, Manuel, Matias, and Yurque — and I traveled from Pem-ba to Stanford and joined stu-dents from across the globe to be intellectually challenged, to develop critical and creative problem-solving skills, and to apply these to global problems.

During the program the stu-dents attended different work-shops covering various topics including bioscience, business, engineering, leadership, math-ematics, computer science, and global citizenship.

In the ‘Global Solutions’ group project, our students’ groups won 1st Place for ‘Best Presen-tation’ and 1st Place for ‘Best Project.’ We are so proud of their hard work, but Domingas said it best when she summed

up her experience: ‘Traveling to America expanded my hori-zons, my ideals, and my pur-pose. It helped me be aware of my potential and the capacity I have to use it wisely. All this knowledge I gained made me realize that in whatever I hope to do in the future, I’d like to make a positive impact in peo-ple’s lives.’”

Through our relief efforts we meet people at their most desperate and pro-vide physical, spiritual, and emotional relief to suffering people. In flood-ing, earthquakes, hurricanes, fires and whatever else nature can think of, we bring in basic supplies, help with recovery and rebuilding, and always share the hope we have in Jesus.

This year we experienced historic opportunities to serve our beloved com-munities when two record-breaking cyclones ravaged Mozambique. We are blessed to have invested years of hard work and commitment into the re-gions hardest hit, and we were in perfect position to respond immediately to the crisis. We were also undone by the resounding support from the international body of believers to rally behind us with prayer and resources to alleviate the suffering.

“One amazing thing that has come from all of the devastation of Cyclone Kenneth is we are finally reaching the Mwani people. The Mwani are a coastal fishing group — in fact, “mwani” means beach in their own language. They are hard, proud, and strong followers of another faith. Less than 1% are Christians and most have not heard the Gospel message. Through this storm and relief efforts, the door for the Mwani is open. It’s no coincidence that the first ones to appear on their shores were Christians. We came in a way they understand, by wooden boat. We brought with us basic necessities and all of it without strings attached. Just love. When they ask, ‘Why are you here? Why did you come?’ Our answer is simple, ‘We come because God loves you and we love you.’ This answer is dumbfounding. A people who have felt forgotten for years now know they are loved enough that someone would come, and that sounds exactly like Jesus to me.”

We follow Jesus’ admonition to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and give water to the thirsty. We know transformation takes time and one of our Irisisms is “to go low and slow.” Our development projects start where our relief programs end. Iris is investing in the long-term success of the communities we serve, and we work closely with them to empower their transformation. Our mercy ministry programs provide assistance to the most vulnerable people in our communities – widows who need a new roof to get through rainy season, disabled children and adults who find themselves on the fringe and need help with the essentials, micro-finance and business training for single mothers working toward a better life for themselves and their chil-dren, and drilling wells to give whole communities easy access to clean, safe water.

    HEALING

As soon as I walked up to Custeja’s new house, kids gathered around curiously and comfortably. With Custeja being the primary caregiver of her grandson, you could tell this was a place where kids felt safe. Mama Custeja was a mama to many.

After spending some time with Custeja, she mentioned she had suffered from extreme lower back pain that often made it difficult to perform daily tasks and to care for her grandson. At this point, I felt Holy Spirit nudging me to minister to the kids as well, and to include them in what God was doing that day. I shared the sto-ry of when Jesus fed the 5,000. More specifically, I taught them about how God used a little boy to perform the miracle when the boy had offered Jesus his lunch. It wasn’t much, just five loaves of bread and two fish, yet Jesus multiplied the offering and fed the multitudes.

I told the kids even if they didn’t have much to give to Jesus, He could take the little they had and do something spectacular with it. I asked if any of the children wanted to pray for Mama Custe-ja’s back. Unexpectedly, the smallest and youngest of the kids, literally named “Baby,” raised his hand. Only around four years old, he laid his hand on Custeja’s back, closed his eyes, and prayed tenaciously. The others looked on intently. When he had finished praying, Custeja began to laugh. She twisted her torso around and tested out her back. God healed her through a little boy who cou-rageously offered up what little he had!

In a generation that is mostly impacted and led by media and is increasingly hungry for creativity, we have a responsibility to understand the mission field of Arts and Entertainment. Our Iris Global mission statement includes the Arts because God is looking to impact this generation in a language they speak fluently. Therefore we want to see the Kingdom released through media and the arts!

Iris Global Media communicates stories of what God is doing around the world through videos, pictures, podcasts, social media, music, video messages, and more.

As well as creating content that inspires and ministers to our audiences, our calling to the Arts also means a calling to those working in this industry. We have now seen hundreds of students graduate our ILA FAM (Iris Los Angeles Film, Acting and Music) School where we train, equip, and support artists who feel a mission-al calling to become content creators and influencers of the industry. In our recent schools we have had leading industry professionals pour into our aspiring artists, with our highlight being a 2018 Oscar award winner. God has blessed ILA FAM with world-class teachers who are graduates of schools including Juilliard, Berke-ley, and UCLA and have worked professionally in their fields for decades. We have seen many of our graduates transplant to LA to begin ministering and pursing their craft. Many are now working in television and on movie sets. Some have been signed to music labels and several albums have been recorded. Through the school God has opened doors for graduates become true salt and light in LA! There has been so much fruit produced by those who have joined the Iris family to help dis-play His glory through their art and lives! We continue to see God move among those in high places of influence as well as minister to very broken artists and the spiritually poor in LA. We believe a great outpouring is coming to Hollywood.

Iris Global received $11 million in donations during the fiscal year ended September 30, 2019. $2.38 million of those donations were in response to the devastation of cyclones, hurricanes, and other disasters. We were able to put these relief funds to work immediately providing food, housing, and other necessities as we ministered.

The dedication and generosity of our donors made it possible for Iris Global to grant $7.4 million dollars directly to ministry locations and missionaries on the field during the year. To maximize the impact of each donor’s gift, administrative costs are controlled closely and comprise less than 12% of total expenses.
