Message from the chairman

On behalf of the committee I would like to wish you a warm welcome to our annual Berriew Show.

After the success of our 70th anniversary celebrations, this year we are extending the opening time of the bar to 7:30pm, when strolling players will entertain you as you relax at the end of a busy day. No fireworks I’m afraid. Although popular, they will have to wait until the show’s 75th anniversary!

As ever, there will be a wide range of stands and stalls that make the showfield such a colourful and vibrant place on the Bank Holiday Saturday. I always try to get around and look, but never seem to get

the time to visit them all. Maybe this year!

I also never seem to get the time to have a good look round the exhibit marquee, which is always full of so many impressive entries. I try to sneak in before the marquee opens to the public and I never fail to be amazed by the quality and number of the entries. I would like to thank all the people who take the time and effort to build, create and grow all these exhibits.

We have a wide range of entertainment for all ages, both in the main arena and also around other areas of the showfield. Our headline attraction this year is the Welsh Axemen whose demonstrations are very spectacular and well worth taking the time to watch. Our dog, sheep and horse sections will also be bigger and better than ever.

The committee sadly lost one of its members recently. Fred Miniken might be a name that many of you would not recognise, but for many years, he was the ‘voice of the show’. As the announcer, Fred enjoyed being in the Secretary’s office, watching events from the side of the main ring and keeping people entertained and informed over the PA system. He will be greatly missed and the committee’s thoughts are with his family.

Finally, I would like to thank all the members of the show committee, without whose hard work there would be no show. This small group of people work hard, not just on show weekend, but also over the course of the rest of the year.

Wishing you all the best for the 2019 Show.Wayne Jones, Chairman

DOG SECTIONCOMPANION SHOW

PRIZES DONATED BY OUR SPONSOR

RULES & REGULATIONS

DOGS IN CARS ON HOT DAYS • When travelling to a show, please consider if the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

• If your car is not air conditioned, seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all in hot weather.

• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible and plenty of stops should be taken with lots of water available to drink.

• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog(s).

• When at the show, never leave your dog(s) in the vehicle.

• Keep your dog(s) in the shade - take your own shade, for example a large umbrella, and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog(s) stays well hydrated.

• Avoid your dog(s) taking part in unnecessary exertion or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.

• Remember: If you feel hot, dogs are very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.

If dogs are found to be at risk - forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability

for any damage caused.
