Presenters

Michael Barton, Pharm. D., B.C.P.S., B.C.G.P.Dr. Michael Barton graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy in 2015. Dr. Barton currently practices as a clinical pharmacist at St. Joseph Medical Center and serves

as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the UMKC School of Pharmacy. He is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist and Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

David Blick, M.D., F.A.C.C.Dr. Blick earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his cardiovascular fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and interventional Cardiology and

practices at St. Joseph and St. Mary’s Medical Centers. He has organized over 17 cardiovascular conferences to help advance the practice and his fellow practitioners. He also participates in clinical research as a lead investigator.

Paul Dobesh, Pharm. D., F.C.C.P., B.C.P.S., B.C.C.P.Dr. Dobesh is the Professor of Pharmacy Practice with the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from South Dakota State University

with a BS in Pharmacy and a two-year add-on Pharm D degree. Dobesh did an Internal Medicine Specialty Residency with the University of Texas at Austin at Brackenridge Hospital and maintains a clinical practice with cardiology services at Nebraska Medical Center.

Edward Ellerbeck, M.D., M.P.H.Dr. Ellerbeck is the chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He has over 25 years of experience in measuring and improving the quality of medical care,

particularly in the area of smoking cessation. He is involved in a wide variety of research designed to promote smoking cessation, cancer screening, dietary changes, and diabetes control.

Anthony Magalski, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.H.A., F.A.S.E., F.H.F.S.A.Dr. Magalski is a Board Certified Cardiologist with Saint Luke’s Cardiovascular Consultants and is on staff at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School

of Medicine. He has been involved in evaluating athletes at the professional, collegiate, and high school level and as the Medical Director for the Athletic Heart Clinic at Saint Luke’s, spearheads the athletic heart examinations for University of Kansas Athletic Department and local community.

Charles Porter, M.D.Dr. Porter is founding Medical Director of cardio-oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Working with oncologists at the KU Cancer Center, he established the Cardio-Oncology program in 2007. Dr. Porter has served as the first American President of the International Cardio-Oncology

Society and spoken at ICOS programs in the US and Europe. His has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed cardio-oncology reports and is a member of the ACC Cardio-Oncology patient education website committee. Dr. Porter also maintains a cardio-oncology practice and cardio-oncology research at KU Medical Center.

Hiren Shah, M.D.Dr. Shah is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He has been a member of the National Steering Committee for the American College of Physician’s initiative on Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke

Prevention and was the chair of its National Clinician Intervention Subcommittee. Dr. Shah is also the national director of the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Stroke Reduction in Atrial Fibrillation Initiative.

Jeffrey Sparling, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I.Dr. Jeffrey Sparling is a structural interventional cardiologist at INTEGRIS Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. As Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, his practice focuses on the catheter-based treatment of valvular heart disease, stroke prevention, and

coronary artery disease.
