FSU VS. UCFFlorida State is 26-4 all-time against UCF, including winning each of the last 17 matches, dating back to 1984.

Thursday's match will be the first time that the Seminoles and Knights will meet in the NCAA Tournament.

FSU VS. ALABAMA STATEThe Seminoles have never played against the Hornets and are 3-0 all-time against current SWAC teams, with wins against Alabama A&M, Southern and Mississippi Valley State.

FSU VS. FLORIDAThe Seminoles and Gators have had a long history against each other in volleyball and Florida holds a 43-30 advantage all-time in the series and the Noles are 6-25 all-time in Gainesville, dating back to 1974.

FSU and UF have met six times previously in the NCAA Tournament, with the Gators holding a 4-2 advantage. The Seminoles won a pair of five-set matches in 2013 and 2016 over Florida.

DECADE OF CONSISTENCYFSU is one of only 11 programs in the country to make the last 11 NCAA Tournaments (along with Colorado State, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Texas, USC and Washington). Eight of the 11 schools - Hawaii, Nebraska, Penn State, Stanford, Texas, USC and Washington - have previously won NCAA National Championships, and combine to hold 29 of the 38 titles in the history of NCAA Volleyball.

AGAINST THE FIELD OF 64The Seminoles are 3-6 this season against teams that have made the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Championship, including wins over No. 7-seed Minnesota, Louisville and Big East Champion St. John's.

SULLIVAN: LONE NCAA WINNER Along with the youth on the 2019 Seminoles, there is also not a lot of success in the postseason for Florida State, as senior Madison Sullivan is the only member of the team that has played in and won a match in the NCAA Tournament. The senior libero started in each of FSU's wins in 2016 against Cincinnati and Florida, before falling to Stanford. The Noles lost in the first round in each of the last two seasons.

Senior Payton Caffrey did not make the NCAA Tournament in either of her two seasons at West Virginia, junior Jasmyn Martin only played in one match, a loss against USC, in the NCAA postseason in her two years at Minnesota, and Marissa Stockman lost in the first round in 2018.

ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEARFor the first time in ACC history, a non-libero was crowned the conference's best defender as junior Taryn Knuth was named the 2019 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

It also marked the first FSU player to earn the award, as the Johnston, Iowa native led the ACC and ranked fourth in the NCAA with 154 blocks, including 24 solo blocks.

FOUR NAMED TO ALL-ACC TEAMSThe Seminoles tied for third in the conference with four players selected to the 2019 All-ACC Teams.

Led by 2019 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, junior Taryn Knuth was joined on the All-ACC First Team by senior Payton Caffrey.

Junior Jasmyn Martin was selected to the All-ACC Second Team, while Emma Clothier earned a spot on the All-ACC Freshman Team.

TARYN KNUTH: BRICK WALLThe Seminoles are anchored in the middle by junior Taryn Knuth, who led the ACC and finished third in the NCAA in 2018 with 188 blocks, including 30 solo blocks. Knuth held a 26-block advantage over the next highest player in the conference - Amber Witherspoon, Syracuse (162).

Through 28 matches of the 2019 season, Knuth ranks fourth in the NCAA with 1.54 blocks per set, along with 154 total blocks, including seven on August 31 in a straight-set victory against No. 3 Minnesota.

In just her third season in the Garnet and Gold, Knuth is climbing up the all-time block record book and already has tallied 504 total blocks, which ranks sixth all-time in FSU history. Gabrielle Reece holds the program record of 747 blocks, set from 1987-90.

Her 428 assisted blocks are sixth-most in school history, while her current rate of 1.58 blocks per set is third-highest all-time.

Knuth currently ranks eighth among all active players in Division I, and is the top blocker among juniors, recording 42 more blocks than the next closest junior (Dana Rettke, Wisconsin - 468). Her 1.58 career average is the most among active players, topping VCU's Jasmin Sneed who currently has 1.52 blocks per set in her career.

BLOCKING FREQUENCYAfter finishing last season ranked No. 9 in the NCAA with 2.85 blocks per set, the Seminoles have improved to currently be the second-best blocking team in the country in 2019 with 3.00 blocks per set.

So far this season, there have only been two sets in FSU's 28 matches where the Noles did not record a block, and the Seminoles have recorded multiple blocks in 85% of their sets (85-of-100). Florida State has posted a team-high seven blocks in a set three times this season - Stony Brook (Sept. 13), Louisville (Nov. 10) and North Carolina (Nov. 17).

STRAIGHT-SET STUNNER!The Seminoles made history on August 31 with their straight-set victory over No. 3 Minnesota (25-17, 26-24, 25-21). The win was the highest-ranked victory in program history and the first-ever win over a Top-5 opponent. The last time Florida State defeated a Top-10 team was on August 29, 2014 with a 3-1 win on the road at No. 7 Nebraska.

Junior Jasmyn Martin, who transferred from Minnesota during the offseason, carried the Noles offensively with 16 kills and two errors for a .500 hitting percentage on the afternoon. Senior Payton Caffrey recorded a double-double on 10 kills/15 digs with two service aces, while redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon came up a kill short of a double-double on nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman Emma Clothier hit at a .556 pace with six kills in the match, while redshirt freshman Lily Tessier had 21 assists.

FROM A SEMINOLE TO A GATORSenior Madison Sullivan may have a chance to play against Florida this week, but the Seminole libero will become a Gator next fall as she was accepted to the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

Sullivan is among the 3% of applicants that were accepted for the 2020 year (90 of over 3,000), and the school ranks No. 31 in the nation.

DOMINANCE AGAINST DUKEThe Seminoles celebrated Senior Day on November 24 with a dominant win over Duke, sweeping the Blue Devils, 25-22, 25-7, 25-10.

The 39 total points allowed is the fewest in an FSU match since surrendering 38 in a victory at Boston College on October 18, 2009 (25-14, 25-15, 25-9), and is the fewest allowed in any match since August 31, 2012 in a win against FIU (25-11, 25-12, 25-16).

The seven points allowed in the second set against the Blue Devils is the fewest since giving up just two points in the first set against Stetson on August 30, 2008.

CHACON'S ROAD TO RECOVERYEarning a Top 100 ranking from PrepVolleyball.com, as well as a Third Team All-America honor from Under Armour, Morgan Chacon was playing in the 2017 IHSAA 4A State Championship match on November 4, looking to finally give Crown Point a state title, after finishing as finalists in 2016 and quarterfinalists in 2015.

During the first set, Chacon jumped for a block, but came down on a teammate, breaking her right leg. After surgery to put a metal rod in her leg, she rehabbed for over a year to regain the ability to walk, jump and run.

Redshirting during the 2018 season at FSU, Chacon is back for her first full season of volleyball and is still gaining back her pre-injury abilities.

COACH POOLE ALL-TIME WINS/RANKIn his 33rd season of coaching, and the 12th at the helm of Florida State, head coach Chris Poole is among the best in the NCAA.

Posting a current record of 843-319, Poole is fourth among active Division I coaches in all-time wins and is 12th among all coaches in NCAA history, while his current winning percentage of .725 ranks 17th amongst active coaches.

20+ KILLS FOR CAFFREY/CHACON Leading the team with 378 kills and 3.98 kills per set, senior Payton Caffrey has been the primary attacker for the Seminoles this season.

Highlighted by a season-high 22 kills against FAU on September 6, Caffrey also eclipsed the 20-kill mark in ACC matches against Miami (21), at Duke (20), Clemson (20) and against Virginia (20).

She has recorded 20 or more kills 10 times in her 56 matches as a Seminole, and also had 14 20-kill matches in her two years at West Virginia.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon set a career high on November 2 with 21 kills on the road at High Point, and also tallied 20 kills at UNC on October 13.

BLOCK PARTY!Florida State continually puts pressure on the opposing offenses with its impressive blocking ability, as the Noles are second in the nation with 3.00 blocks/set. Eight different Seminoles are averaging over 0.70 blocks/set - Taryn Knuth (1.54), Emma Clothier (1.25), Deion Williams (1.03), Jasmyn Martin (0.88), Marissa Stockman (0.74), Jessica Nunge (0.61), Caleigh Morrison (0.56) and Payton Caffrey (0.54).

Overall, the Noles have recorded double-figure blocks in 18 of their 28 matches on the season - No. 4 Pitt (18), St. Johns (15), North Carolina (15), FAU (14), High Point (14), Louisville (14), North Carolina (14), Syracuse (13), Stony Brook (12.5), Clemson (12), Miami (12 - twice), Virginia Tech (12), No. 2 Pitt (11), Duke (10), Wake Forest (10), NC State (10) and No. 3 Minnesota (10).

Of that list, only the matches against Pitt (4 - both matches), Duke (4), Clemson (4), Miami (4 - twice), Louisville (4), UNC (5 - both matches), High Point (5) and FAU (5) were more than three sets.

CLOTHIER'S CAREER DAYFreshman Emma Clothier was on another level on October 6 when the Seminoles hosted No. 4 Pitt, as the middle blocker posted a career-high 11 blocks against the Panthers.

The 11 blocks are tied for the fifth-most in the NCAA this season in a five-set match, and also tied with Stanford's Holly Campbell (11 vs. No. 12 BYU) for the most blocks against a ranked team in a match of any length this season.

She also ranked in a tie for 12th all-time in FSU history, tied for sixth during the rally-scoring era, and tied for fourth-most in school history in an ACC match.

VOTED TO FINISH 2ND IN ACCFor the fourth time in the last five seasons, Florida State was been picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, as voted on by the 15 ACC head coaches. The Seminoles received two first-place votes and 174 points, which trailed 2018 ACC Champion Pitt, which garnered 195 points and 13 first-place votes.

The Seminoles have finished either first or second in the conference in eight of the last 10 seasons, including ACC Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

BLOCKS AGAINST PITTThe Seminole defense was on display against No. 4 Pitt on October 6 as Florida State recorded 18 blocks in a four-set loss to the Panthers.

The total ranks 36th in the nation, and third in the ACC, in a four-set match, and is seventh in the conference in a match of any length.

Emma Clothier (11), Jasmyn Martin (7) and Lily Tessier (5) each recorded career highs in blocks against Pitt, while Taryn Knuth and Payton Caffrey added six and four blocks, respectively.

TAKING SETS AGAINST PITTDespite the heartbreak of losing the second set against No. 6 Pitt (26-24) after having three set points on October 6, the Seminoles came out and played some of their best volleyball in the third set against the Panthers.

Tallying six blocks in the entire set, they held Pitt to just 14 points, which is by far the fewest points scored in a set this season by the Panthers, as the next lowest total is 18 against Georgia Tech.

The Seminoles tied the set at No. 2 Pitt on November 22 with a 28-26 win, marking just the fifth set that the Panthers have lost in ACC play, and 13th overall.

TEN SERVICE ACES!Florida State was outstanding on the serve on November 24 against Duke, posting 10 service aces in the sweep of the Blue Devils.

The 10 aces were recorded by seven different players - one each from Morgan Chacon, Lily Tessier, Madison Sullivan and Alyssa Collins, and two from Emma Clothier, Adrian Ell and Taylor Roberts.

It marked the most aces in a match since September 20, 2009 against Notre Dame.

TARYN KNUTH VS. SYRACUSEJunior Taryn Knuth had a nearly perfect afternoon on October 20 against Syracuse as she posted a .600 hitting percentage with six kills and zero errors, while also adding 10 blocks in the three-set win over the Orange.

The 10 blocks is tied for ninth in the NCAA this season in a three-set match, set a season high, and is tied for fourth-most in her career.

IMPROVED ATTACKWith a team full of newcomers, as 10 of the Seminoles are either freshmen, transfers, or redshirted in 2018, it has been a process for the offense to come together and find a rhythm.

Beginning the year with just one match with a hitting percentage of over .300 in its first eight contests (.315 at TCU), Florida State has turned its offense around in recent weeks, finishing seven of the last 17 matches with a hitting percentage of over .320 - Boston College (.390), Duke (.378), Syracuse (.358), Virginia (.349), at Clemson (.347), at NC State (.346) & UNC (.322).

Individually over that span, junior Taryn Knuth has led the offensive resurgence with a .405 hitting percentage on 118 kills with just 20 errors in 242 attacks. She has posted a hitting percentage over .500 in five of her last 16 matches, including .632 (12-0-19) versus UNC, .611 (12-1-18) at Clemson and .600 (6-0-10) at home against Syracuse.

QUALITY LOSSESAlong with the strong schedule and quality wins that the program has had over the past few years, most all of the blemishes on the schedule have come against quality opponents.

Of the last 19 losses the program has had, dating back to the beginning of the 2018 season, 13 of them have come against teams ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 - No. 2 Pitt (1-3), No. 4 Minnesota (0-3), No. 4 Pitt (1-3), No. 5 Wisconsin (0-3), No. 8 Pitt (1-3), No. 9 Wisconsin (1-3), No. 10 Pitt (1-3), No. 11 Florida (1-3), No. 11 Florida (0-3), No. 16 Florida (0-3), No. 25 Colorado State (2-3), RV Notre Dame (0-3) and RV Colorado State (0-3).

In the other six losses, four were in five sets (Cincinnati, Miami and North Carolina twice), while the final two losses were on the road at Auburn and Georgia Tech.

ROOKIE MAGICFreshman Emma Clothier has made an excellent transition to college volleyball and has been outstanding in the middle for the Seminoles in 2019.

The Carrollton, Texas native is second on the team with both 15 solo blocks and 125 total blocks. She has tallied 130 kills (1.30 per set) and has a .244 hitting percentage through 28 matches this season. Her 1.25 blocks per set ranks ninth among all freshmen in the NCAA and is tops in the ACC.

TOPPING RANKED TEAMSOne of the standards of the Florida State Volleyball program under head coach Chris Poole is that the Seminoles will play a difficult schedule and seek to play as many ranked teams as possible.

The Noles have been very successful in that regard, posting 28 wins over ranked opponents since Poole took the helm in 2008, including seven wins over Top 10 teams.

The 2019 Seminoles have already faced five ranked teams and two that were receiving votes in the AVCA Poll - No. 2 Pitt (L, 1-3), No. 3 Minnesota (W, 3-0), No. 4 Pitt (L, 1-3), No. 5 Wisconsin (L, 0-3), No. 11 Florida (L, 0-3), RV Colorado State (L, 0-3), RV TCU (W, 3-0).

ACE IN THE HOLE! The Seminoles have improved on the serve this season, as FSU has already recorded 117 aces, for a pace of 1.17 per set. Last season, Florida State only had 108 aces over 29 matches, with a rate of 0.99 per set. Redshirt sophomore Adrian Ell leads the team with 23 aces, while redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon (20), sophomore Taylor Roberts (19), senior Payton Caffrey (17), redshirt freshman Lily Tessier (14) and senior Madison Sullivan (11) also have double-digit aces. Overall, the 117 aces have come from 10 different players.

COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICTSplitting the libero duties on the court this season for the Seminoles, senior Madison Sullivan and sophomore Taylor Roberts have been recognized as well for their work in the classroom as the pair of Florida State student-athletes have earned Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

It is the first time since 2009 that the Seminoles have had multiple players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, and Florida State had as many All-District honorees as the rest of the ACC combined, as North Carolina and Wake Forest each had one apiece.

Sullivan currently holds a 3.726 GPA as she pursues a degree in Exercise Physiology, and Roberts has a 3.985 GPA and is majoring in Psychology.

BEACH/INDOOR DOUBLE DUTYSenior Payton Caffrey and redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon have been honing their skills all year long as the duo were also part of the 2019 FSU Beach Volleyball roster, which earned the CCSA Championship and finished ranked No. 4 in the nation.

Payton led the team with 31 pairs victories, including a 29-4 mark during the dual season. She primarily played with Molly McBain on Court 4, and the pair earned a 14-1 record together. Caffrey also played with Sara Putt, and they earned a 12-1 mark together, including a win on court 4 against No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC and No. 4 LSU.

Chacon played in just 10 matches on the season, posting a 4-6 mark, with a 2-2 record in tournaments (all paired with Caffrey) and a 2-4 record in duals, combining with Brooke Kuhlman (1-3), Nikki Esposito (1-0) and Sara Putt (0-1).
