NEW MIXED-USE PROJECTNorthwood broke ground on a 328,000-square-foot, 11-story Class A office building with a top-level amenity floor, as well as an adjacent 16-story residential tower. The office portion will deliver in Q1 2021.

WELLNESS FAIR

The Ballantyne Wellness Fair featured over 50 wellness-related local vendors, flu shots, pet adoptions, a free pumpkin handlettering SkillPopclass, food trucks and more.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES& EVENTS

LUNCH SEMINARS

Join us for our next free lunch and learn on February 1, where Doug Bacon, managing director of Throwing Words will present Better Business through Strengths.

• February’s fifth annual Ballantyne Ball had 350 attendees and raised $63,550 for The Relatives.

• Tenant Golf Nights at The Golf Club at Ballantyne continued to be popular from April through October.

• Charlotte Regional Business Alliance’s Ballantyne Business Bash drew hundreds of professionals to network in June.

• September’s 12th annual Isabella Santos 5K/10K Race for Kids Cancer had 2,500 attendees and 1,700 race participants and raised over $230,000.

• More than 200 people participated in Tour de Cure, raising over $65,000 for the American Diabetes Association.

• Ballantyne hosted nine SkillPop classes ranging from how to make smart investments to cookie decorating workshops. Look out for more classes in 2020!

• Ballantyne Book Club enjoyed monthly gatherings to discuss a variety of captivating books.

In May, nearly 1,800 runners enjoyed the 15th annual Run! Ballantyne 5K/8K and 1-Mile Fun, raising more than $77,000 to support the Steele Creek YMCA Afterschool and Camp programs.

TRAINING ON TAP

Sara’s YMCA hosted its annual Training on Tap in October. Nearly 175 people attended the fitness social hour that included various group workouts, music, food trucks and local beer and wine.

More than 100 volunteers counted, sorted and cleaned hundreds of book donations from the Books for a Brighter Future Book Drive benefiting Promising Pages.

Volunteers prepared and sorted 3,700 door hangers, 200 towels, 100 swimsuits and 75 toys and goggles to benefit the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program.

LIME SCOOTERS Lime hosted a pilot program for its electric scooters (Lime-S) in Ballantyne, offering a convenient transportation option that supports our community’s commitment to sustainability.

ECOSHINE Ecoshine, a mobile car cleaning service, allows tenants to get their car cleaned without having to leave the office. Ecoshine uses safe products and eco-friendly cleaning methods.

THE PRODUCE BOX The Produce Box offered its delivery service to Ballantyne offices providing its members with fresh produce and specialty items from over 70 local farmers and 100 local artisans. NEW RESTAURANTS Potbelly Sandwich Shop, featuring breakfast and lunch options, opened in January. Cabo Fish Taco, offering a blend of fresh seafood and baja Mexican cuisine, opened in March.

GOODWILL OFFICE EQUIPMENT PICKUPS Goodwill offers monthly on-site pickups for office furniture and electronic donations. FOODSBY MEETINGS Foodsby Meetings makes group lunches easier by providing customized catering options.

We continued our partnership with Livable Meck, a collaborative group of organizations in Mecklenburg County, by hosting a community forum for Ballantyne tenants and residents and participating in key partner meetings.

Northwood has pledged to only use LED lighting and has begun

converting full stairwell, restrooms and common areas lighting to LED.

Northwood initiated a more robust recycling program that will provide detailed results of our efforts.

OFFICE RECYCLING UPDATE

With recent changes in the trash/recycling industry across the nation, it’s become essential that recycling loads be free of contamination. As part of Northwood’s continued efforts to recycle, Ballantyne tenants are now required to separate trash from recyclables. View details.

Northwood has committed to a two-year initiative to benchmark water consumption

and associated costs to improve performance, compare performance with

peers and reduce operating costs.

• The Ballantyne had a successful year following its multimillion-dollar renovation and the addition of an incredible new executive team. The hotel appointed Christophe Le Chatton as general manager, Beth Allen as director of sales and marketing and Ivo Sandrea as executive chef.

• Gallery Restaurant continued to evolve its contemporary American fare by highlighting local, in-season ingredients.

• Gallery Bar and The Ryal increased their beverage club offerings. Wine Club hosted pairing events with Rodney Strong, J. Lohr and Cambria; Beer Club held several tastings with local breweries and a chef’s dinner with Wicked Weed; and the Whiskey Club featured small bites paired with some of the world’s finest Scotch, Irish and American spirits.

• The Ballantyne hosted many popular themed afternoon teas including Downton Abbey, Pearls and Champagne, Harvest, Mad-Hatter, Princess and Holiday.

• The Spa at Ballantyne introduced several new offerings this year, including Dr. Dennis Gross skincare, Margaret Dabbs London luxury hand, foot and leg care products, Londontown gel polish and UGG loungewear.

• Ballantyne Golf Academy had the largest long-term player development program in the area, supporting the growth and development of juniors in the game of golf.

• The Golf Club at Ballantyne held its first “Invite Her” LPGA golf event with a 7-hole scramble. Jonathan Grab was promoted to head professional, and The Golf Club raised over $9,600 to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.

• The award-winning Courtyard Charlotte Ballantyne updated its public areas, including The Bistro, business center/home theater area, fitness center and pool area.

• Staybridge Suites Charlotte Ballantyne continued to provide all the benefits of apartment-style living in a hotel, focusing on comfort, flexibility and amenities such as free breakfast and a local shuttle.

• Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne completed a renovation and was again recognized as one of the top performers in guest satisfaction among all the Aloft brand.
