Alabama used its best meet of the season to lock up third place at the 2019 SEC Gymnastics Championship in New Orleans, La., Saturday, marking the 21st year in a row that the Crimson Tide has finished in the top three at the SEC Championships.

Taking third also maintained Alabama’s status as the only team in SEC history to never finish outside the top four at the championships.

Sophomore Lexi Graber led the way for the Tide, winning the balance beam with a 9.95 and taking second in the all-around with a 39.650. Both scores were career-best marks.

Alabama will be in the 1 p.m. CT session of the second round on April 5, tak-ing on host Michigan, as well as Penn State and Ohio State. The 6 p.m. CT session of the second round will be made up of defending NCAA Champion UCLA, Nebraska and West Virginia as well as the winner of round one, which will feature Illinois and Central Michigan.

Arkansas placed second in Session One at the 2019 SEC Gymnastics Champi-onship with a 196.475, the second highest team score recorded at the Cham-pionship Meet.

The Razorbacks finished fifth overall at the meet. The Razorbacks defeated No. 9 Kentucky from the second session, earning a top-five finish at the meet for consecutive seasons. It is the first back-to-back top-five finish at the meet for the Hogs in program history.

The Razorbacks were led by record scores from freshman Amanda Elswick on vault and sophomore Sarah Shaffer on bars. Both gymnasts recorded a 9.900 on their apparatus, which tied for the school records on the events at the SEC Championship.
