,_k WARNING: Always wear safetyeyewear complying with ANSI Z87.1(or in Canada, CSA Z94.3) beforestarting operation. Safety eyewear areavailable at many local retail stores. The operation of any utility vac canresult in foreign objects being blowninto the eyes, which can result insevere eye damage.

Vacuuming Dry Materials1. The filter must always be in correct

position to reduce the risk of leaks andpossible damage to vac.

2. When using your vac to pick up veryfine dust, it will be necessary for you toempty the drum and clean the filter atmore frequent intervals to maintainpeak vac performance.

,_k CAUTION: To reduce risk of hear-

ing damage, wear ear protectors whenusing the vac for extended hours orwhen using it in a noisy area.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, thisappliance has a polarized plug (one bladeis wider than the other). This plug will fitin a polarized outlet only one way. If the

plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reversethe plug. If it still does not fit, contact aqualified electrician to install the properoutlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

After you plug the power cord into theoutlet, turn the unit on by pushing theswitch from position "O" to position "1".The symbols used on the switch actuatorare international "On & Off" symbols. "O"is the symbol for "OFF" and "1" is the

symbol for "ON".

= OFF I = ON

,_ WARNING: To reduce the risk offire or electric shock, do not run vacunattended.

NOTE: A dry filter is necessary to pick updry material. If you use your vac to pickup dust when the filter is wet, the filter willclog quickly and be very difficult to clean.

3. If your filter is wet but you need to usethe vac to pick up dry material, you canquickly dry the filter by running the vacwithout hose attached for about

10 minutes. The clean air rushingthrough the vac will help dry the filter.

The optional Craftsman HEPA RatedMaterial Filter, stock number 9-17912 willdo a better job stopping very fine parti-cles than the 9-17816 filter.

Vacuuming Liquids

_ CAUTION: Do not remove the filtercage or float. It is there to shut off air-flow when the drum is full of liquids.

1. When picking up small amounts of liq-uid the filter may be left in place.

removed. If the filter is not removed, itwill become saturated and misting mayappear in the exhaust.

Page 10: 2019 Hp Wetdry Vac

Operation (continued)3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,

the filter must be dried to reduce the

risk of possible mildew and damage tothe filter.

4. When the liquid in the drum reaches apredetermined level, the float mecha-nism will rise automatically to cut offair-flow. When this happens, turn offthe vac, unplug the power cord, andempty the drum. You will know that thefloat has risen because vac airflow

ceases and the motor noise will

become higher in pitch, due toincreased motor speed.

IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of dam-

age to the vac do not run motor with floatin raised position.

Emptying the Drum

,_, WARNING: To reduce the risk of

injury from accidental starting, unplugpower cord before emptying the drum.

1. The vac comes equipped with a drainfor easy emptying of liquids. Simplyunscrew the drain cap and lift the
