Showing this week is The Lorax. Movies are only $3/person and only $2/person for Backstage Members. This is a summer series that will include family-friendly movies from the past, all rated G or PG. For more information call 601-501-4774. Jul. 2: Interstellar Gaming. This event will be from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Vicksburg-Warren Public Library, 700 Veto Street. There will be board games, free snacks, and a few rounds of Halo 5. This event is for ages 8 and older. For more information call 601-636-6411. Jul. 3: Appomattox - The Last 48 Hours. This performance will begin at 7:00 pm at The Strand Theatre, 717 Clay Street. Living historians, Dr. Curt Fields, as General Ulysses S. Grant, and Thomas Jessee, as General Robert E. Lee, will be presenting a one-act performance. This presentation is an examination of the written communications between the Generals from the evening of April 7, 1865, through the afternoon of April 9, 1865. Learn what was happening in both armies during this exchange and what both men were thinking at the end of the American Civil War. This performance is presented with awareness and reverence for the soldiers of both armies. Tickets are $15 dollars and can be purchased at Highway 61 Coffee Shop. For more information call The Baer House at 601-883-1525. Jul. 4: 3rd Annual Breakfast with the Generals. This performance will be from 8:30 am until 10:00 am at Baer House Inn, 1117 Grove Street. Enjoy an all you care to eat buffet breakfast while dining with living historians who share their knowledge of the happenings in and around Vicksburg during the 47-day siege of 1863. For more information call The Baer House at 601-883-1525. Jul. 4-7: 156th Anniversary Events at VNMP. Live cannon firings will be at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm at the Vicksburg National Military Park, 3201 Clay Street. The cannon firings will be at Battery de Goyler and simultaneously there will be living history programs representing the Confederate experience across the battlefield at the 3rd Louisiana Redan. Visitors will be able to experience the soundwave and the percussion wave from the cannon firings. This is a great way to experience both sides of the siege. For more information call 601-636-0583 or visit www.nps.gov/vick. Jul. 4: Fireworks Extravaganza. Come celebrate the 4th of July in downtown Vicksburg! The fireworks extravaganza on the mighty Mississippi will follow live music by Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster at 7:00 pm. The fireworks at 9:00 pm. The fireworks will be shot behind the Old Depot Museum, 1010 Levee Street. You can find a spot along Washington Street between Jackson and Grove Streets. For more information call 601-630-2929. Jul. 4-7: 4th of July Fireworks Classic. The tournament will be from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Force Parks on the Mississippi, 255 Fisher Ferry Road. This is a sanctioned Nations Baseball tournament. Enjoy fun for the whole family including zip lines, mini golf, food trucks, and professional quality fields athletes will love to play on. Register your team online at bit.ly/fireworksclassic2019. Jul. 5: Margaritaville Splash Bash. This event will be from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm at Margaritaville Hotel, 1310 Mulberry Street. This is the ONLY time Margaritaville opens their pool to the public! There is a limit, so you may begin purchasing wristbands as early as Wednesday, July 3 at the front desk. Jul. 6: 4th of July Day Party and Crawfish Boil. This event will be from 3:00 pm until 11:30 pm at The Event Suite, 1415 Washington Street. Enjoy all-you-can-eat crawfish beginning at 4:00 pm. Advance tickets are $30 with a complimentary drink special and will be $35 at the door on the day of the event. DJ Jarrod Lee will be there and vendors are welcome, but space is limited. Vendor spaces are $35 until June 22 and $45 after that until July 4th. No food vendors unless contracted with the venue for this event. In Deconstructing Abbey Road, Beatleologist Scott Freiman takes the audience on a journey track-by-track explaining the inspiration for the songs and their evolution in the studio. Jul. 11: Classics in the Courtyard: Happy Hour. This event is presented by the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation in celebration of their 25th anniversary! The show is set in the 1890s and features a relentless hero, a winsome heroine, a ruthless villain, and the wilder side of city life in the infamous New York Bowery. Kids will experience launching their homemade bottle rockets with water pressure. Snacks and drinks will be served. This event is hosted by the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library. This workshop will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Catfish Row Museum, 913 Washington Street. The community is invited to hear Jackson State University’s Dr. Robert Luckett, The Margaret Walker Center present. The Catfish Row Museum and Vicksburg Interpretive Center is a vibrant cultural heritage experience that is currently under development. Partner in the revitalization of Vicksburg’s historic downtown! Jul. 13-14, 20-21, & 27-28: Echoes of the Battlefield. This event will be from 10:00 am until 2:30 pm at the Vicksburg National Military Park, 3201 Clay Street. Programs will be at the Visitor Center in the Living History Demonstration Area. There will be a ranger talk and demonstration of the 12 pdr Napoleon Cannon at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. At 11:00 am and 1:00 pm there will be a ranger talk and demonstration of the muskets commonly used during the Civil War. The programs are free to the public but normal entrance fees apply. This event will be from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm in Downtown Vicksburg around the new Farmers’ Market lot and will occur on the second Saturday of each month. Second Saturday is an opportunity for the community to shop downtown, listen to live music, learn from featured artists and craftsmen, and much more. Jul. 18: Summer Library Program Closing Celebration. This event will begin at 10:00 am at the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library, 700 Veto Street. Celebrate the end of this year’s Summer Library Program with magician, Dorian LaChance. Certificates presented to readers who meet or exceed their reading goals. Prizes will be awarded to the top readers. The library will also draw names for prizes from among the reading program participants. Cake and snacks provided. This event is open to everyone. Jul. 18: 6th Annual Ritz on the River. The 6th annual event featuring the band 12 South will be from 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm at the Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Mulberry Street. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm and the band begins at 8:00 pm. The Havana themed evening will feature an electrifying dinner performance by Salsa Mississippi. Their performance will consist of the some of the area’s top Latin dancers showcasing the Salsa, Samba and Bachata. All tickets have been sold. Jul. 24: Community Wide Baby Shower. United Way of West Central Mississippi is hosting this event and it will be from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm at Merit Health River Region, 2100 Highway 61 North. On this day, expecting parents can make their way through our parent resource fair learning valuable tips on parenting. Free cake and door prizes will also be available. Businesses are encouraged to host a baby shower to collect unwrapped gifts such as diapers, wipes, lotion, and bottles and bring them to the hospital between 9:00am-2:00pm for us to display at the shower. If participants sign up for a parenting class, they are eligible for any of the gifts donated. For more information call 601-636-1733. Jul. 24: Hang Out at the Hangar Luncheon. The luncheon will begin at 12:00 noon at the Southern Heritage Air Foundation Museum Hangar located at the Vicksburg-Tallulah Regional Airport, 175 Vtr Airport Rd, Tallulah, LA. Lunch is $10 per person. Free for military (retired or serving). Lunch, tea or water and dessert are included. You can also tour the museum for free. Reservations are required. Jul. 25: Book Launch at Lorelei. This event will begin at 5:30 pm at Lorelei Books, 1103 Washington Street. This event will celebrate the launch of On Hallowed Ground with Patricia Rickrode. This event is free and open to the public. For more information call 601-634-8624.

Jul. 26-27: Gold in the Hills. The show will begin at 7:30 pm at the Parkside Playhouse, 101 Iowa Avenue. The show is set in the 1890s and features a relentless hero, a winsome heroine, a ruthless villain, and the wilder side of city life in the infamous New York Bowery. The investigation will begin at 8:30 pm (after the haunted tour) at McRaven Tour Home, 1445 Harrison Street. You will have the opportunity to use professional ghost hunting equipment as you try to contact and connect with the many spirits that still haunt the McRaven Home. There will be refreshments in between the tour and the investigation. Cost is $75.00 per person and must be paid 24-hours in advance.
