Please make sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming events including the annual Hamburger Cookout on June 20th and our second annual Fishing Tournament on July 27th. There is still plenty of time this year to help contribute to the Chamber activities. We welcome volunteers for our upcoming activities. Chairman’s MessageAs we roll into longer and warmer summer days, I hope that you find time to enjoy some outdoor activities, spend vacation time with your family, or even just take time to reflect on the year to date. Also, since we are in June and we do live on the Gulf Coast, I encourage you to develop or revisit your hurricane plan. There are many good, free resources available on-line including those published by FEMA: https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes .

If you were able to attend our annual State of Industry Luncheon, I hope you were moved by the experiences Mr. Russell Ybarra shared with us from the restaurant industry. It was an amazing story of perseverance, caring for others, and success! If you missed that luncheon, you still have an opportunity to attend the State of Education Luncheon, the New Teachers Luncheon, and the First Responders Breakfast.

As we are almost at the halfway point for the year (which is so hard to believe), it is also a good time to perform a mid-year check on what we have accomplished this year. There is constant activity in our organization and here are just a few key items to note:

•Community: This year, the Chamber (in large part through our sponsors) has awarded $10,500 in scholarships to La Porte High School (LPHS) Students in conjunction with the Sylvan Beach festival, $1,000 in scholarships through our Workforce Development Committee, and $500 each to the Interact Club and Project Graduation at LPHS. •Membership: We have added 26 new members this year through May and Chamber membership is now at 347 •Events: State of the Cities, State of the Precinct, and State of the Industry Luncheons, a committee mixer, and another successful year for SBF with corporate sponsorships exceeding last year’s amount •Committees: New and very active Small Business Development Committee •Technology: New website for the Chamber in June, upgraded technology in the Chamber Office meeting room.

Please make sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming events including the annual Hamburger Cookout on June 20th and our second annual Fishing Tournament on July 27th.

There is still plenty of time this year to help contribute to the Chamber activities. We welcome volunteers for our upcoming activities. Any talent or resource you can contribute will help support our mission to be a dynamic and diverse organization that leads the promotion of business, economic development, and support of the La Porte-Bayshore community.

I hope to see you around soon!Derick Meadows
