Key FobsYour vehicle uses either a wireless ignition nodesystem or keyless ignition system. The ignitionsystem consists of a key fob with a RemoteKeyless Entry (RKE) and an ignition switch. Thekeyless ignition system consists of a key fob andKeyless Enter-N-Go button.

NOTE:The key fob may not be found if it is located nextto a mobile phone, laptop, cell phone chargingcable source, or other electronic device; thesedevices may block the key fob’s wireless signal.

The wireless ignition node key fob operates theignition switch. Insert the square end of the keyfob into the ignition switch located on the instru-ment panel and rotate to the desired position.

It also contains the key fob and an emergencykey, which stores in the rear of the key fob.

The emergency key allows for entry into thevehicle should the battery in the vehicle or thekey fob go dead. You can keep the emergencykey with you when valet parking.

To remove the emergency key, slide the me-chanical latch at the top of the key fob sidewayswith your thumb and then pull the key out withyour other hand.

NOTE:When using the emergency key to gain accessto your vehicle, be aware that the security alarmmay be triggered. Insert the key into the ignitionand place the ignition in the ON/RUN mode todisarm the security system.

The keyless ignition key fob allows the driver tooperate the ignition switch with the push of abutton, as long as the key fob is in the passen-ger compartment. The Keyless Push ButtonIgnition has four operating positions, three ofwhich are labeled and will illuminate when inposition. The three positions are OFF, ACC, andON/RUN. The fourth position is START, duringstart RUN will illuminate. It also contains the keyfob and an emergency key, which stores in therear of the key fob.

NOTE:In case the ignition switch does not change withthe push of a button, the key fob may have a lowor fully depleted battery. A low key fob batterycan be verified by referring to the instrumentcluster, which will display directions to follow.

SENTRY KEYThe Sentry Key Immobilizer system preventsunauthorized vehicle operation by disabling theengine. The system does not need to be armedor activated. Operation is automatic, regardlessof whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked.

The system uses a key fob, keyless push buttonignition and a RF receiver to prevent unauthor-ized vehicle operation. Therefore, only key fobsthat are programmed to the vehicle can be usedto start and operate the vehicle. The systemcannot reprogram a key fob obtained from an-other vehicle.

After turning the ignition switch to the ON/RUNposition, the vehicle security light will turn on forthree seconds for a bulb check. If the light remainson after the bulb check, it indicates that there is aproblem with the electronics. In addition, if the lightbegins to flash after the bulb check, it indicates thatsomeone attempted to start the engine with aninvalid key fob. In the event that a valid key fob isused to start the engine but there is an issue withthe vehicle electronics, the engine will start andshut off after two seconds.

If the vehicle security light turns on duringnormal vehicle operation (vehicle running forlonger than ten seconds), it indicates that thereis a fault in the electronics. Should this occur, have the vehicle serviced as soon as possibleby an authorized dealer.

    CAUTION!

The Sentry Key Immobilizer system is notcompatible with some aftermarket remotestarting systems. Use of these systems mayresult in vehicle starting problems and loss ofsecurity protection.

    23

  • All of the key fobs provided with your newvehicle have been programmed to the vehicleelectronics.

Key ProgrammingProgramming key fobs may be performed at anauthorized dealer.

Replacement KeysNOTE:Only key fobs that are programmed to thevehicle electronics can be used to start andoperate the vehicle. Once a key fob is pro-grammed to a vehicle, it cannot be programmedto any other vehicle.

    CAUTION!

    • Always remove the key fobs from the ve-hicle and lock all doors when leaving thevehicle unattended.

    • For vehicles equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go — Ignition, always remember toplace the ignition in the OFF position.

NOTE:Duplication of key fobs may be performed at anauthorized dealer. This procedure consists ofprogramming a blank key fob to the vehicleelectronics. A blank key fob is one that hasnever been programmed.

When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer Sys-tem serviced, bring all vehicle keys with you toan authorized dealer.

VEHICLE SECURITY ALARMThe vehicle security alarm monitors the vehicledoors and ignition for unauthorized operation. When the vehicle security alarm is activated, interior switches for door locks are disabled. Thesystem provides both audible and visible signalsfor the first three minutes. The horn will sound, the headlights will turn on, the park lamps and/orturn signals will flash and vehicle security lightwill flash repeatedly. For an additional 15 min-utes only, the headlights will turn on, the parklamps and/or turn signals, and vehicle securitylight will flash.

To Arm The SystemFollow these steps to arm the vehicle securityalarm:

    1. Remove the key from the ignition system(refer to "Starting The Engine" in "StartingAnd Operating" for further information).

    • For vehicles equipped with Keyless Enter-N-Go — Ignition, make sure the vehicleignition system is "OFF."

    • For vehicles not equipped with KeylessEnter-N-Go — Ignition, make sure the ve-hicle ignition system is "OFF" and the keyis physically removed from the ignition.

The vehicle security alarm is designed to protectyour vehicle. However, you can create condi-tions where the system will give you a falsealarm. If one of the previously described armingsequences has occurred, the vehicle securityalarm will arm regardless of whether you are inthe vehicle or not. If you remain in the vehicleand open a door, the alarm will sound. If thisoccurs, disarm the vehicle security alarm.

If the vehicle security alarm is armed and thebattery becomes disconnected, the vehicle se-curity alarm will remain armed when the batteryis reconnected; the exterior lights will flash, andthe horn will sound. If this occurs, disarm thevehicle security alarm.

Rearming Of The SystemThe vehicle security alarm will rearm itself afterthe 15 additional minutes of headlights andvehicle security light flashing, if the system hasnot been disabled. If the condition which initi-ated the alarm is still present, the system willignore that condition and monitor the remainingdoors and ignition.

Security System Manual OverrideThe vehicle security alarm will not arm/disarm ifyou lock/unlock the doors using the manual doorlock plunger.
