2019 Schedule: November – December We are happy to offer you the following opportunities. Classes/events have limited enrollment

so register early to assure a spot in the classes/events you wish to attend. All classes/events, including the “Free” ones, are “PRE-REGISTRATION” only. For classes/events with a class

fee, registration and fee (cash or check only) must be submitted to reserve a space. * *List will be updated as new classes/events are added. Please check back.* *

Strength and Stability ~ Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Bring a friend or come alone to a fitness class, Strength and Stability, that is sure to meet your 2019 physical activity goal. The class will be lead by Beth Leistensnider, CYT, 200. This is a beginner level class, accessible to most, that is yoga based with added strength and stability training techniques. Cost: $4.00 per week (exact amount, cash or check only, payable at door). Registration in advance is encouraged but not required. Monthly Table Runner-November: Maple Leaves and Zig Zag ~ Monday, November 4th, 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.: Table runners are an excellent opportunity to learn a new block or pattern, try it to see if it meets your expectations and complete a project without the commitment of a whole quilt. Sample in the office. Cost: $13.00, supply list will be provided after registration. Fabr ic MUST be cut before class. Kit available for an additional fee of $15.00 (Total fee for class and kit is $28.00, class and kit) Kit will include fabric for runner top without the zig zag border). Pre-registration is required. Kit: While the integrity of the fabrics (color, holiday theme) will remain true for each pre-cut kit, actual fabrics will probably change according to availability. Log Cabin Christmas Tree Wall Hanging ~ Tuesdays, November 5th & 19th, 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: Sample is available in the office. Cost: $25.00, supply list will be provided after registration. Fabr ic MUST be cut before class. KIT: A limited number of pre cut kits are available for additional fee of $35.00 and need to be preordered. (Total fee for class and kit is $60.00.) Kit does not include fabric for border or backing. While the integrity of the fabrics (color, holiday theme) will remain true for each pre-cut kit, actual fabrics may change according to availability.

Cooking Through the Calendar: Autumn Apple Pork ~ Wednesday, November 6th, 12:00-1:00 p.m.: Class will include a cooking demonstration and taste test. Learn the techniques used in the recipe along with helpful and healthy kitchen tips. Door prizes will be given. Cost: Free, but must register in advance. Civil War Quilt Class/Underground Railroad Sampler ~ 1st and 3nd Thursdays of each month, November 2019-June 2020, starting November 7th. First class is on November 7th and will meet 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for both sessions. **For all other classes: select either 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. OR 1:00-4:00 p.m. Required book: Underground Railroad SAMPLER by Eleanor Burns and Sue Bouchard. Each participant is responsible for supplying her/his own book. Because the book is still in active printing and because of copyright laws, the extension office cannot copy any part of this book. Start looking on line for a used copy, ask friends if they have a copy to borrow. The new purchase price of the book is $24.95.

The first class, November 7th, will be instruction on cutting, organizing pieces, and preparing to make this quilt. The class will be cutting intensive and will set you up for success through the remainder of class meetings. It is very important that all participants attend. A tools supplies list will be provided after registration. Fabric requirements are given in the required book listed above. You will need to decide ahead of time if you are making 6” blocks for a wall hanging or 12” blocks for lap quilt. SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner. Cost: $80.00 for 8 month class OR $10.00 per month due by the first class of each month (total cost $80.00). No refund given once class begins. Participants responsible for total cost of all classes whether they attend/complete the quilt or not.

Pajama Party ~ Thursday, November 7th, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.: Everyone loves comfy pajama pants! Make a pair for yourself or someone you love. During class you will learn the basic garments skills you need to sew pajama pants: a fun, simple project that is perfect for beginners. You will learn to transfer and use a pattern to cut fabric, sew seams, and create an elastic waist. Skills needed: how to thread and operate your sewing machine. Supplies needed: Butterick Pattern 5153, sewing machine, sewing scissors, straight pins, measuring tape, prewashed flannel fabric (2 3/4 yd), 1” elastic (1 1/2 yd), thread to match your fabric and swing bobbin for your machine. Please feel free to bring a snack or lunch to class. Cost: Free, but must register in advance. This free class has limited seating so register ear ly. NEW DATE “Chinese New Year” Basket ~ Thursday, November 7th, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: Oval basket measuring 10x5x6H. Weaving done with alternating 11/64 FO dyed reed and fine seagrass. Shaping will be emphasized. Unique rim in seagrass with coin and bone bead trim. ** Supplies Y OU must provide: water container (bucket/bowl), small towel, scissors (garden type preferable), small flat head screwdriver, 2 dozen snap type clothespins, tape measure, pencil, pocket knife (good sized), sandpaper, weights (unopened soup cans work) and a small spray bottle. Materials for making the actual basket (reed, etc.) will be provided. Please Note: Supplies are specifically cut for each basket two days prior to class. If you need to cancel, you MUST call 72 hours prior to class. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. Cost: $40.00 for Fayette Co. Homemaker members or $48.00 for non-members. Shadow Quilt ~ Friday, November 15th, 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.: This quilt features dark and light tones that accentuate the floating colored fabric squares. This is a simple quilt to sew with a dramatic effect! Supplies YOU must bring: 2 yards light background fabric; 1 yard dark fabric; 5 inch squares (equivalent to 2 charm packs or 80 squares); Matching thread; scissors; Sewing machine (machines will be provided upon request). Instructor: Rita Hardman. Cost: Free, but must register in advance. This free class has limited seating so register early.

NEW Holiday Placemat Set ~ Monday, November 18th, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Join me for this quick pieced ornament placemat project, great to adorn your own holiday table or to give as gifts. The placemat can be made from scraps or fat quarters. We will complete (quilting and all) one placemat in class, make as many as you want at home. Cost: $15.00, supply list will be provided after registration. Fabr ic MUST be cut before class. Kit available for an additional fee of $30.00 (Total of $45.00, class and kit) Kit will include all fabric for top, backing, and batting for four placemats. Pre-registration is required. Kit: While the integrity of the fabrics (color, holiday theme) will remain true for each pre cut kit, actual fabrics will change according to availability. Homemakers Member Lesson: Mindful Chair Yoga ~ Tuesday, November 19th, 10:00 a.m.: Yoga is an excellent way for adults to loosen and stretch painful muscles, reduce stress, and improve circulation. It also reduces anxiety, helps lower blood pressure, protects joints, and builds strength and balance. Chair yoga can lessen the impact of chronic illnesses and pain. Attend this presentation to learn some fantastic chair yoga poses and exercises that can be easily completed at home or in a group setting. Cost: Free, but must register in advance. “Scandinavian Star” ~ Thursday, November 21st, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: Ornament Making Day! Make this star in several sizes or all the same size using natural and dyed reed. Also instructions and materials to make an angel and reindeer ornament. ** Supplies Y OU must provide: water container (bucket/bowl), small towel, scissors (garden type preferable), small flat head screwdriver, 2 dozen snap type clothespins, tape measure, pencil, pocket knife (good sized), sandpaper, weights (unopened soup cans work) and a small spray bottle. Materials for making the actual basket (reed, etc.) will be provided. Please Note: Supplies are specifically cut for each basket two days prior to class. If you need to cancel, you MUST call 72 hours prior to class. SKILL LEVEL: Beginner. Cost: $25.00 for Fayette Co. Homemaker members or $33.00 for non-members. Making Food for Holiday Giving ~ Thursday, November 21st, 10:00 a.m.: Learn to make delicious foods you can give as gifts, including holiday cookies, mixes of all kinds, seasoned oils and herb blends, freezer entrees, breads and more. Instructions and recipes will be included for making a range of foods, and many options for great containers will also be provided. Come learn to make special gifts for your friends and family. Class taught by Victoria Faoro, Champion Food Volunteer. Cost: $5.00 for Fayette Co. Homemakers or $13.00 for non-members. FCS Class Policy Update Please be aware of our new class policies.

1. Please notify the office if you will be late. If you come to class 30 minutes late without prior notice the teacher may ask for you to wait while other students are taught so they do not get behind. We cannot guarantee that you will have a chance for complete instructions.

2. Only the person who has paid for the class is allowed in the classroom. If you want for someone else to attend, there must be space and they must pay for the class.

3. Please be prepared for class. Have required items, material cut, pre sewn or other instructions completed in advance. The class instructors and other member will not wait for you to catch up. People who are prepared will be helped first.

4. Be respectful of teachers and other class members as the class is taught. Keep talking to a minimum.

Kentucky Proud Evening: Ring Around the Moon: Mommy Goose Rhymes by Mike Norris ~ Thursday, December 5th, 6:00 p.m.: As this collection adeptly illustrates, nursery rhymes not only evoke innocence, discovery, and joy for children of all ages, but they also can educate and celebrate tradition. Ring Around the Moon features original rhyming poems in a time-honored Appalachian style that acknowledges the importance of the region and its rich heritage while introducing readers to the whimsical and enchanting world of Mommy Goose. Cost: Free, but must register in advance. Crazy Quilted Stocking ~ Thursday, December 12th, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: Make someone special a one of a kind quilted stocking. Foundation quilt method, utilizing decorative stitching. Cost: $15.00, includes foundation fabric. Supply list will be provided after registration. “Raleigh Candle” Basket ~ Thursday, December 12th, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: This delicate basket is perfect for an electronic candle. Weaving will be done over a mold to control shaping. Work will be done using narrow reed. Several colors will be offered. ** Supplies YOU must provide: water container (bucket/bowl), small towel, scissors (garden type preferable), small flat head screwdriver, 2 dozen snap type clothespins, tape measure, pencil, pocket knife (good sized), sandpaper, weights (unopened soup cans work) and a small spray bottle. Materials for making the actual basket (reed, etc.) will be provided. Please Note: Supplies are specifically cut for each basket two days prior to class.
